Berserker is the easiest all-purpose starting class in Crystal of Atlan for most beginners. It is durable, deals strong burst damage and remains forgiving when you miss part of a combo. That makes it especially comfortable for learning direct melee combat and PvP. If your priority is cooperative PvE, however, Scytheguard is usually the safer first choice because heals and buffs let you help a party even while your damage rotation is still developing. Warlock is the strongest beginner option for self-sufficient solo PvE, but its broader kit takes longer to master.

The right answer depends on what you want to do, not only on a tier list. This comparison explains the class system, how each available branch feels to learn, which weaknesses matter in PvE and PvP, and how to make a choice you will not regret when advanced-class specialization becomes permanent.

How classes work in Crystal of Atlan

The Steam listing describes five base classes and 11 class-branch options. Every class has more than 20 skills that can be mixed into different combo rotations and combat roles. You therefore choose a broad starting weapon and identity first, then refine it into an advanced class rather than selecting a fully fixed character at the beginning.

Epic Games Store’s beginner guide says advanced classes become available at level 15. You can try advanced classes before committing and switch during early progression, while specialization becomes fixed later. The exact lock-in level is not consistent in published guides: Epic Games Store states 42, while BlueStacks states 45. Treat the live game’s warning or confirmation screen as authoritative before spending resources or finalizing a branch.

#1 Best Overall
Crystal's of Atlan
  • Innovative "Magicpunk" World: Explore a unique and visually captivating universe where advanced technology coexists with powerful magic.
  • Dynamic Z-Axis Combat: Experience fluid, fast-paced action with revolutionary aerial combos and full 3D movement, allowing for nuanced attacks and dodges.
  • Deep Class System: Choose from 5 base classes with 11 unique subclasses, each offering over 20 customizable skill combinations to tailor your playstyle.
  • Challenging Team Battles: Engage in cooperative dungeons, confront powerful bosses with unique mechanics, and participate in a robust guild fleet system.

What “easiest” should mean

“Easy” is not the same as “highest damage.” A class can top a tier list while being punishing for a new player who misses a timing window or lacks a coordinated party. Compare these four beginner factors:

  • Survivability: How many mistakes can you make before being defeated?
  • Forgiveness: Does the class still contribute when a combo is interrupted or aimed poorly?
  • Mechanical load: How many cooldowns, stances, summons or positioning rules must you track?
  • Independence: Can you quest and survive without another player supplying protection, healing or crowd control?

Pro Game Guides evaluates PvE largely through self-sustain and sustained damage, while its PvP comparisons emphasize burst, mobility, combo potential and crowd control. That is why one class can be “easy” in an arena and awkward in a dungeon. Choose the mode you will play most before you select a branch.

Beginner comparison of every class

Class Beginner feel Best fit Main caution
Berserker Easiest general start; durable and forgiving PvP, frontline melee and learning combos Weak sustained PvE; some damage incentives involve low health
Starbreaker Easy controls with burst and tank tools PvP or a straightforward melee brawler Long cooldowns and low sustained group-PvE damage
Scytheguard Forgiving because support skills preserve party value Group PvE and players who enjoy helping teammates Lower single-target damage than dedicated damage classes
Warlock Strong solo sustain, but more to learn Solo PvE and sustained damage Complex kit and rotation
Bounty Hunter Mobile ranged option with solo potential Players who prefer distance, kiting and repositioning Less forgiving when caught; harder classes can out-damage it
Magician Broad toolkit with the steepest learning curve Experienced players seeking crowd control, mobility and flexibility Described by Pro Game Guides as the most difficult class
Magiblade High mobility and a high damage ceiling Players comfortable with precise melee execution Difficult kit and demanding positioning
Cloudstrider Powerful combos but demanding execution High-action melee players Requires substantial skill and has low survivability
Elementalist Strong ranged area damage when protected Group-PvE specialists with reliable frontline support Very low mobility and survivability

Berserker: the best default beginner class

Choose Berserker when you want one answer that works across the widest range of early content. Pro Game Guides calls it one of the most beginner-friendly classes, and its PvP table rates it extremely easy to play while highlighting strong burst and combo potential. BlueStacks similarly identifies Berserker as a frequent best-beginner recommendation because of its durability, damage and forgiving mechanics.

Why it feels forgiving

Berserker can stay in the frontline, absorb more punishment than fragile damage dealers and still threaten an opponent after an imperfect opening. Its direct melee game plan also makes the feedback clear: close the distance, connect a sequence, and capitalize on burst windows. That clarity is useful while you learn enemy telegraphs, dodge timing and combo routing.

Crystals OF Atlan
  • Magicpunk World: Immerse yourself in a unique fantasy setting where magic and technology coexist and intertwine.
  • Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO): Connect and play with friends in a vibrant online world.
  • Action RPG Combat: Experience fast-paced, fluid combat with a strong emphasis on skillful execution.
  • Dynamic Aerial Combos: Utilize a unique Z-axis combat system for exhilarating mid-air attacks and dodges.
  • Multiple Classes & Subclasses: Choose from over 10 initial classes, each with multiple subclass specializations, offering vast build diversity.

The trade-off in PvE

Berserker is not the safest sustained-damage choice for long PvE encounters. Its sustained PvE output is described as weak, and its strongest damage incentives can involve operating at low health. A new player who treats the class as permanently invulnerable can therefore lose the advantage that made it attractive. Use its durability to learn positioning, not as permission to ignore incoming attacks.

Scytheguard: easiest for cooperative PvE

Scytheguard is the most forgiving recommendation when your first goal is joining parties for PvE. Its heals and buffs provide useful work even when your personal damage is not perfect, and that support value remains relevant in group content and solo play.

Why support lowers beginner pressure

A damage-only class may contribute little after a missed rotation. Scytheguard can instead stabilize a group, improve allies’ performance and help recover from mistakes. This gives you time to learn encounter patterns without feeling that every missed attack has made the run worthless.

What you give up

Scytheguard has lower single-target damage than pure damage classes. Choose it because you enjoy enabling a team, not because you expect it to top every damage meter. If you mostly play alone and want the fastest possible kill speed, Warlock is a better match.

Warlock: strongest self-sufficient solo option

Warlock suits a beginner who expects to quest and farm largely alone. Pro Game Guides highlights its sustain and self-healing, which reduce dependence on another player’s support and make extended PvE sessions more comfortable.

Why it is not the simplest class

Warlock’s advantage comes from a more complex kit. You must learn how its abilities fit together, maintain the appropriate sequence and manage more decisions than a straightforward melee class. The class can be forgiving in health management while still demanding attention in rotation management.

When to choose it over Berserker

Pick Warlock if solo PvE is your central activity and you are willing to practice. Pick Berserker if you want the shortest path to understanding combat fundamentals or expect to spend substantial time in PvP.

Starbreaker: simple controls, limited sustained damage

Starbreaker is an approachable melee brawler with burst and tank-oriented tools. It can feel immediately comfortable for players who want to control one durable character without juggling a highly technical kit.

It is great for kids, teens, and adults alike. Play with family and/or friends. • UNIQUE - ONE OF A KIND NEW GAME: Created by Jiff Games, Crystals: The Card Game was invented to be a unique player experience, unlike any other card game. You will love this game and want to play it consistently with family and/or friends.
  • GREAT FOR GAME NIGHT: Crystals: The Card Game is ideal with 4 players, but is also fun with 2 or 3 players. If more than 4 players is desired, a second set of Crystals: The Card Game allows up to 8 players. It’s a fun indoor game for Family Game Night, get-togethers, child development, adult game nights, and anytime play.

Its weakness is endurance rather than accessibility. Long cooldowns and low sustained damage make it a poor choice for group PvE that demands continuous output. It is better suited to PvP or to a player who values a simple, sturdy fighting style more than peak dungeon damage.

Ranged and high-skill choices

Bounty Hunter

Bounty Hunter is the natural alternative for a player who dislikes standing in melee range. Mobility, distance and kiting create strong solo potential, but being caught is more dangerous than it is for a durable frontline class. You must read enemy movement and keep repositioning; a beginner who has not learned those habits may find it less forgiving than its ranged attacks suggest.

Magician

Magician offers crowd control, mobility and a flexible toolkit, but Pro Game Guides identifies it as the most difficult class to play. Its breadth is an advantage for experienced players who enjoy adapting to different situations, not a shortcut for someone seeking a low-friction first character.

Magiblade

Magiblade combines high mobility with a high damage ceiling. Reaching that ceiling requires precise melee execution and careful positioning, so mistakes are more costly than they are on Berserker or Scytheguard.

Cloudstrider

Cloudstrider has strong combos and a high-action feel, but it demands substantial skill and has low survivability. It is a better second character for players who already understand enemy patterns, movement and combo timing.

Elementalist

Elementalist supplies ranged area damage and can be powerful in parties that protect it. Very low mobility and survivability make it a frustrating first choice for solo players or anyone still learning how to avoid attacks. Select it when you already expect dependable frontline support.

Best beginner class by game mode

Your priority Recommended class Reason
General first character Berserker Durability, burst and forgiving melee fundamentals
PvP and frontline play Berserker Easy controls with strong burst and combo potential
Group PvE Scytheguard Heals and buffs remain useful while you learn
Solo PvE Warlock Sustain and self-healing reduce reliance on a party
Simple melee brawler Starbreaker Accessible burst and tank profile
Ranged, mobile play Bounty Hunter Distance and kiting tools, with greater positioning risk

How to choose and test your advanced class

  1. Pick the base class that matches your preferred distance. Decide whether you want frontline melee, ranged attacks or a support role before comparing damage rankings.
  2. Reach level 15. The Epic Games Store beginner guide identifies level 15 as the point at which advanced classes become available.
  3. Use the trial period. Test the available advanced classes and pay attention to movement, cooldown feel, survivability after a mistake and whether the rotation is enjoyable.
  4. Test the content you actually play. A branch that feels excellent in a short arena exchange may feel weak during a long dungeon encounter. Try both solo and party activities if you plan to do both.
  5. Read the lock-in warning carefully. Published guidance disagrees on whether specialization becomes fixed at level 42 or 45. Do not assume you can switch indefinitely; confirm the level and any cost in your current client before committing.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Choosing only from a tier list: Tier lists are opinions and can change after balance patches. Pocket Gamer’s October 16, 2026 version 2.0 update explicitly advises treating rankings with caution and prioritizing enjoyment.
  • Confusing burst with sustained damage: A class that wins a short exchange may contribute less over a long PvE fight. Starbreaker’s burst does not remove its cooldown and sustained-output limitations.
  • Ignoring survivability: Elementalist and Cloudstrider can punish positioning errors severely. A theoretical damage ceiling has little value if you cannot stay alive long enough to use it.
  • Picking support without wanting to support: Scytheguard is beginner-friendly because of its team value, but its lower single-target damage may disappoint a player who wants to be the primary damage dealer.
  • Assuming “durable” means “safe at low health”: Berserker’s risk-reward damage incentives can involve low health. Learn when to disengage rather than relying on toughness alone.

Final recommendation

Start with Berserker if you want the safest broad recommendation, particularly for PvP, frontline combat or learning combos. Choose Scytheguard for cooperative PvE and Warlock for mostly solo PvE. Starbreaker is a sound easy-to-control brawler when you accept weaker sustained group-PvE performance. Save Magician, Magiblade, Cloudstrider and Elementalist for later unless you already enjoy demanding execution, precise positioning or playing behind a coordinated team.
