The company says the credits will provide high-performance computing and inference capacity through Crusoe Cloud, plus technical support for researchers across more than 15 federal agencies. The announcement does not say when access starts or how researchers will qualify.
What Crusoe committed
Crusoe Co-Founder and CEO Chase Lochmiller announced the commitment at the White House Science: A New Golden Age Summit. It is a pledge of cloud-compute credits over three years, not a $50 million cash payment. Crusoe says the credits are intended for high-performance AI compute and inference workloads on Crusoe Cloud, with technical support accompanying them. Crusoe’s October 8 announcement describes the intended contribution, but does not translate the credit value into a number of processors, GPU-hours, or a cash equivalent.

Crusoe described the intended users as researchers across more than 15 federal agencies, naming the Department of Energy (DOE), NASA, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Science Foundation (NSF) as examples. That identifies the intended audience, not an open sign-up program for the public.
What the Genesis Mission is
Established by Executive Order 14363, the Genesis Mission is a federal effort to apply AI to scientific discovery and national challenges. The order assigns DOE a central implementation role and gives the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy a coordinating and leadership role.

The mission’s planned American Science and Security Platform is meant to connect high-performance computing—including DOE laboratory supercomputers and secure cloud AI environments—with AI modeling tools, scientific foundation models, datasets, and experimental or production capabilities. The executive order also calls for protections addressing classification, privacy, intellectual property, and federal data management.
A public-private consortium
DOE announced the Genesis Mission Consortium on February 9, 2026, as a public-private partnership bringing together the department, national laboratories, industry, and academic institutions. Its member-led working groups cover AI model development and validation, data integration and standards, high-performance computing and cloud infrastructure, and robotics and automation. DOE said TechWerx, a partnership intermediary operated by RTI International, would administer the consortium. DOE’s consortium announcement provides those organizational details.

The effort’s reach had expanded beyond DOE by July 2026. The White House described it as a whole-of-government initiative with more than 15 federal agencies contributing awards, funding opportunities, datasets, and research facilities, using shared DOE-built infrastructure to connect researchers with data, computing, and AI tools. The White House’s July 22 account describes that broader federal scope.
