The Crucial T710 2TB is a high-end PCIe 5.0 x4 SSD with manufacturer-rated sequential speeds of up to 14,500 MB/s read and 13,800 MB/s write. Independent reviews find it very fast, but those peak figures do not guarantee proportionally quicker everyday use—and one review found it behind competing drives in a large write test. It makes the most sense for a compatible Gen5 system and demanding storage workloads; check the exact SKU, cooling and current local price before buying.
What the Crucial T710 2TB offers
The T710 is a single-sided M.2 2280 NVMe 2.0 drive: 22 mm wide and 80 mm long, with a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. PCWorld identifies the tested 2TB sample’s controller as Silicon Motion SM2508, with Micron TLC NAND and 2GB of DRAM. PC Gamer describes its NAND as 276-layer Micron 3D TLC.

Crucial’s 2025 product flyer rates the 2TB model for up to 14,500 MB/s sequential reads and 13,800 MB/s sequential writes. These are manufacturer figures, not guaranteed speeds for every system or transfer. The flyer says typical I/O figures were measured using CrystalDiskMark at queue depth 512 with write cache enabled, and notes that system variation affects results. [Crucial T710 product flyer]

How fast is it in independent reviews?
Review results support the view that the T710 is a high-performance drive, while also showing why a headline sequential rating is not enough to predict every workload.
PCWorld: strong benchmarks, mixed large-transfer results
In its July 1, 2025 review, PCWorld called the drive very fast and reported excellent benchmark performance. It was marginally faster than the T705 in some tests and behind it in others. In PCWorld’s real transfer results, outcomes were close and workload-dependent; in its 450GB write tests, the T710 lagged both the T705 and Samsung 9100 Pro. That is a result from one test suite, not a universal ranking. [PCWorld’s Crucial T710 review]
PC Gamer: near-rated sequential results in its suite
PC Gamer measured 14,145 MB/s reads and 13,181 MB/s writes in its benchmark suite and reported strong 4K results. In the comparisons it cited, the WD SN8100 was around 5–6% faster in most cases; PC Gamer also reported a cooler result for the T710 under its test conditions. These results belong to that publication’s setup and comparison set, not every PC or workload. [PC Gamer’s Crucial T710 2TB review]

Tom’s Hardware: temperature under a write test
Tom’s Hardware measured a peak of 81°C during its write test, below the 86°C primary throttling point it cites, and recommended a heatsink for heavy write workloads. Temperature depends on the workload, airflow, ambient conditions and host, so that measurement should not be treated as a prediction for another build. [Tom’s Hardware’s Crucial T710 review]
ServeTheHome: a specific test platform
ServeTheHome tested the drive in an MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk system with a Ryzen 9 7900X. Its review also reports the T710’s single-sided M.2 2280 layout, SM2508 controller, Micron TLC, 2GB DRAM, 1,200 TBW rating and five-year warranty. Its performance results describe that test system, rather than all host configurations. [ServeTheHome’s Crucial T710 review]
Does it work in a Gen4 slot or laptop?
Physical fit and interface support are separate checks. The T710’s M.2 2280 dimensions must match the device’s slot and mounting position, and the host must support NVMe. A compatible PCIe 5.0 x4 slot is needed to reach the drive’s maximum rated link performance. In a PCIe 4.0 slot, the drive cannot use its Gen5 link speed; verify the motherboard or laptop manual for the slot’s supported generation and configuration before purchase.

A laptop can be a fit if it has a compatible M.2 2280 NVMe slot and adequate clearance. Do not assume that a laptop’s M.2 slot supports Gen5 or that a factory-heatsink version will fit beneath its cover. Tom’s Hardware notes that everyday workloads may be manageable without a separate heatsink in some contexts, including a laptop Gen4 M.2 slot; that observation is not a guarantee for every laptop.

The T710 is sold in bare and factory-heatsink configurations. Crucial states in its product flyer that “Non-heatsink versions of the Crucial T710 must be installed with a motherboard or alternate heatsink to achieve optimal performance.” Check whether your motherboard already provides a suitable M.2 heatsink; if it does, confirm the bare drive fits beneath it. If choosing the factory-heatsink SKU, verify its height and clearance against the motherboard or laptop layout before ordering. [Crucial T710 product flyer]
Cooling deserves more attention for sustained, heavy writes than for routine desktop use. The review temperature findings show that results depend on test conditions, while Tom’s Hardware recommends a heatsink for heavy write workloads. Match the cooling choice to the host’s available heatsink and the work you expect the drive to do.

Is the T710 2TB worth buying?
Consider the Crucial T710 2TB if your system supports PCIe 5.0 x4, you have a workload that can benefit from a fast NVMe drive, and the price compares well with alternatives where you live. Large transfers, demanding content workflows and benchmark-sensitive work are more plausible reasons to prioritize its Gen5 performance than ordinary application launches or routine file handling, where the sequential peak alone may not translate into a noticeable advantage.
For frequent large writes, look beyond peak sequential speeds: PCWorld’s 450GB write tests did not show the T710 leading its tested peers, and sustained performance can be affected by cache behavior and temperature. Before choosing between the T710 and another 2TB NVMe drive, compare current regional price and availability, results from comparable test methods, performance after write cache saturation, host compatibility, cooling and clearance, endurance, and warranty. Review benchmarks from different publications are not directly interchangeable. Historical review prices do not establish today’s value.

The T710’s 1,200 TBW rating and five-year warranty provide concrete published endurance terms, but the warranty ends if the TBW limit is reached first. For a system that cannot use Gen5 speeds, a lower-priced drive compatible with its slot may make better sense; compare current options rather than paying a premium solely for the T710’s maximum rating.
