CrowdStrike’s operating results offer a case for considering CRWD: in its second quarter of fiscal 2027, revenue and annual recurring revenue grew by more than 25% year over year, and the company generated $377.4 million in free cash flow. But the July 2024 outage still appears in the company’s latest reviewed risk disclosures, and those operating figures do not establish whether the shares are attractively priced. The evidence supports a balanced investment case, not an unqualified buy verdict.
The outage was in July 2024; the latest earnings figures discussed here cover the quarter ended July 31, 2026, and were published August 26, 2026. They do not establish that CRWD’s stock is falling now.

What happened in the CrowdStrike outage?
On July 19, 2024, CrowdStrike released a content configuration update for its Falcon sensor on Windows. On affected systems, the update led to crashes. In a root-cause analysis published August 6, 2024, CrowdStrike said a template instance with a mismatched number of inputs could crash when processed by the Content Interpreter, and its validation process had not caught the problem.
CrowdStrike wrote, “We apologize unreservedly.” The company also reported changes to its testing and deployment processes after the incident. Those actions are relevant to the recovery case, but they are company-reported mitigations—not independent proof that a similar product failure cannot happen again.

Reasons investors may consider buying CRWD
Growth remained strong in Q2 FY2027
For the quarter ended July 31, 2026, CrowdStrike reported revenue of $1.47 billion, up 26% year over year, and annual recurring revenue (ARR) of $5.84 billion, up 25%. ARR is a measure of recurring subscription business, not revenue recognized during that quarter; the two figures describe different aspects of the business.
| Q2 FY2027 measure | Company-reported result |
|---|---|
| Revenue | $1.47 billion; up 26% year over year |
| Annual recurring revenue (ARR) | $5.84 billion; up 25% year over year |
| Net new ARR | $332.8 million for the quarter; the release described this as record net new ARR of $333 million and reported 51% year-over-year growth |
| Cash generated from operations | $530.3 million |
| Free cash flow | $377.4 million |
| GAAP net income attributable to CrowdStrike | $5.3 million, compared with a $70.2 million loss in the year-ago quarter |
These figures come from CrowdStrike’s August 26, 2026 earnings release. The release also said the company raised its FY2027 net-new-ARR growth outlook by 630 basis points, to 34% at the midpoint. That is management’s outlook, not a guarantee of future growth.

Bookings and cash generation add to the bull case
Net new ARR of $332.8 million indicates how much recurring revenue the company added on a net basis during the quarter; it is not the same as recognized revenue or cash collected. The reported $530.3 million of cash from operations and $377.4 million of free cash flow provide a separate view of cash generation. Taken together with revenue and ARR growth, the quarter gives investors evidence of ongoing demand and financial capacity—not proof that the pace will persist.

These are management’s descriptions in the earnings release. Kurtz also described securing AI as a large market opportunity; that is the CEO’s view of the market, not an independently established forecast.

The company says it changed its update safeguards
In its August 6, 2024 root-cause announcement, CrowdStrike said it had added testing for each new template instance, staged deployment layers and acceptance checks, and greater customer control over when and where rapid response content updates are deployed. These measures address parts of the failure and rollout process the company identified. Investors still have to judge whether the safeguards work in practice over time.
What risks remain after the outage?
Customer and revenue effects may continue
In its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 31, 2026, CrowdStrike said the July 19, 2024 incident had adversely affected its results and could continue to affect key metrics and results in future periods. The filing said the precise impact was not reasonably quantifiable. That means the company’s growth figures do not by themselves isolate how much business may have been won, delayed, discounted or lost because of the incident.

The filing also described delayed sales opportunities and longer sales cycles after the outage. To address customer concerns, CrowdStrike used commitment packages that could include discounts, additional modules, professional services, flexible payment terms or subscription extensions. Such concessions may help retain or win customers, while affecting expansion economics and the timing of revenue.

The same filing described incident-related legal proceedings and continuing legal and professional costs. It warned that customers could defer or cancel purchases or not renew; partners could become less willing to promote CrowdStrike; competitors could benefit; and insurance might not cover all costs or claims. These are disclosed risks, not statements that every outcome will occur.
Best Value
CrowdStrike said it was investing in resiliency, testing and customer controls, while warning that it could not guarantee those enhancements would be effective or that its products would be free of defects. For investors, the central uncertainty is whether customer confidence and sales execution improve enough to offset ongoing costs, concessions and competitive pressure.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does strong growth mean CRWD is a buy?
No single quarter answers that. The operating case is strongest if CrowdStrike can sustain ARR and net-new-ARR growth, keep customers renewing and expanding, and translate demand into cash generation without relying on incident-related incentives. The risk case strengthens if sales friction persists, customer concessions weigh on expansion, legal costs continue, or product-quality issues damage trust again.
Valuation is a separate question from business performance. The available figures do not establish a current share price or a current valuation multiple, so they cannot show whether investors are paying a reasonable price for the growth and risks. An August 2026 media discussion of valuation is historical and should not be treated as a current quote or multiple.
Before forming a view, an investor can compare CRWD with relevant peers or an index using consistent measures: revenue and ARR growth; retention and new-customer contribution; GAAP profitability and free cash flow; valuation relative to forward sales, earnings or cash flow; outage-related legal and commercial exposure; and competitive execution. Without current, comparable valuation data, the most defensible conclusion is that CrowdStrike has a substantial operating bull case alongside unresolved incident-related risks—not that the stock is automatically a buy.
