It also adds Crocipedia, a substantial archive about the game’s development. The current Platinum Edition expands that package with Time Attack, trophies or achievements, more archive material and quality-of-life updates. Argonaut describes this as a remaster, not a remake; its published materials do not establish exact technical specifications or prove that every level and objective is unchanged.
What changed in the remaster?
Argonaut Games’ official product page identifies four main updates: enhanced HD graphics, modern control mechanics, an updated camera and retro video modes. Those are the documented changes; the page does not specify a target resolution or frame rate, explain exactly how each input differs, or promise that every original control issue has been fixed. The original’s basic identity remains recognizable. You play Croc, running, jumping, climbing, swimming and using a tail-spin as you try to rescue Gobbos from Baron Dante and the Dantinis. Argonaut lists 45 levels across five worlds. That describes the remaster’s advertised scope, but it is not a level-by-level audit against the 1997 release.
How do the visuals, controls and camera compare?
Visual presentation
Argonaut describes the graphics as enhanced HD and says retro video modes are available for players who want a presentation closer to the 1990s original. The publisher does not publish a mode-by-mode resolution, frame-rate figure or detailed account of which assets were changed, so those specifics cannot be inferred from the feature summary.

Controls and camera
The publisher lists modern control mechanics and an updated camera. These are meaningful areas of modernization for a 3D platformer, but the official feature description does not give a complete control map or document the differences from every version of the original. It is safer to treat them as stated updates than as proof that all movement or camera frustrations have been eliminated.
Does the gameplay change?
Argonaut presents the remaster as an authentic gameplay experience rather than a remake. The original Windows manual offers a useful reference for the game’s structure: it describes finding six Gobbos in each level, collecting white and color crystals, using keys and switches, seeking extra lives and discovering optional secret areas. Its description of 100% completion calls for all Gobbos, all jigsaw pieces, all secret levels and defeating all Guardians. Original Windows manual on GOG

- Croc's got the moves! Help Croc, the crusading crocodile, rescue his peace-loving Gobbo friends from the grasp of the evil magician Baron Dante. Guide him through a beautifully-rendered 3D world, on a free-roaming adventure against the evil Baron and his devilish assistants - the Dantinis!
Those manual details explain what the original’s objectives involved; they do not establish that every objective, layout or mechanic is identical in the remaster. Argonaut’s public feature summary does not provide a systematic comparison of levels or gameplay rules, so claims of complete parity would go beyond what it documents.
What is Crocipedia?
Crocipedia is a major addition beyond the game itself: an archive of material related to Croc’s creation and history. Argonaut lists concept designs for characters and levels, animation tests, game design documents, promotional merchandise, pre-release soundtrack mixes and documentary interviews with contributors. For players interested in how the original was made, this is a distinct reason to consider the remaster, not simply another visual option. Argonaut’s product page

What does Platinum Edition add?
Argonaut calls Platinum Edition a significant free update. Its FAQ lists these additions and changes:
- Time Attack mode.
- 16 new trophies, with achievements on platforms that use that system.
- More than 25 new Crocipedia additions.
- A main-menu option to select among theme mixes.
- Bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
Argonaut says platform versions match as much as possible, while noting that platform restrictions can lead to differences. The listed trophy count is a publisher figure, not a promise that every platform presents trophies in the same way. Argonaut’s Platinum Edition FAQ

How do existing owners get Platinum Edition?
According to Argonaut’s FAQ, existing purchasers on platforms other than PlayStation receive the update automatically. PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners who previously bought the game can obtain the Platinum Edition version free through the PlayStation Store. Store procedures can change, so check the current listing and the FAQ if the update is not appearing in your library.

Which version should you choose?
If you want the updated presentation, modernized control and camera features, retro video options, and the added archive, the remaster is the version that brings those together. Platinum Edition is the more complete version of that package because it adds Time Attack and further archive and quality-of-life content. Choose the original if your priority is experiencing the 1997 release itself; do not assume the remaster is a fully documented, one-to-one recreation of every level and behavior.
