What each requirement means
Windows and DirectX 12
The official listing specifies 64-bit Windows 10 and DirectX 12. A 32-bit installation cannot satisfy the requirement. To check the API, press Windows key + R, enter dxdiag, press Enter, and read the DirectX Version line on the System tab. The game needs the latest DirectX 12, so install available Windows updates before troubleshooting a launch failure.
CPU
The minimum processors are the Ryzen 5 2600X and Core i5-8500. The recommended tier is a Ryzen 5 5600 or Core i5-11600K. Open-world games can load the processor unevenly as they stream scenery, simulate crowds and run combat logic. If the graphics card is below full utilization while frame rate fluctuates, the CPU or background software may be the limiting factor.
Graphics card
The minimum GPU class is a Radeon RX 5500 XT or GeForce GTX 1060; the recommended class is a Radeon RX 6700 XT or GeForce RTX 2080. These names identify performance tiers rather than a promise that every card with a similar label behaves identically. Resolution, ray tracing, texture demands, driver state and available VRAM all affect the result.
Memory
Both tiers list 16 GB of system RAM. That is the published requirement, not a statement that every background workload will fit comfortably beside the game. Close browsers, launchers and recording tools when diagnosing hitching, and watch memory use in Task Manager while playing. If total usage is constantly near the physical limit, adding RAM can improve consistency even though it does not change the official requirement.

Storage
Crimson Desert requires 150 GB of free space on an SSD. An SSD is mandatory in the listing, not merely a recommendation. Leave additional capacity for Windows, shader caches and future patches; a drive with exactly 150 GB free can become unusable after an update. A 1 TB NVMe SSD provides practical headroom, but the official figure is 150 GB available.
How to check whether your PC qualifies
- Open Settings > System > About and confirm that Windows is 64-bit. Record the processor model shown under Device specifications.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, select Performance, and note the CPU, memory capacity and GPU model.
- In Task Manager, select the disk that will hold the game. Confirm it is an SSD and check that at least 150 GB is free in File Explorer.
- Run
dxdiagand verify DirectX 12 on the System tab. Use the Display tab to record the graphics adapter and dedicated video memory. - Compare each model with the minimum table, not just one component. A fast GPU cannot compensate for an unsupported operating system or an HDD when the listing requires an SSD.
If your parts sit between the named tiers, treat the result as uncertain. The official notice says its figures come from internal testing and that performance changes with hardware, software and individual graphics settings.
What independent testing indicates
High-end ultrawide result
TechRadar tested an RTX 4080 Super, Ryzen 7 5700X3D and 32 GB of RAM. At native 3440×1440 on the maximum Cinematic preset, with no upscaling, the reviewer reported around 70 frames per second or more in multiple graphically intense scenarios. This is one high-end configuration and one test report; it is not a prediction for an RTX 2080, a different processor, another resolution or a different game area.

CPU scaling at 1080p
Tom’s Hardware tested native 1080p with the Ultra preset, ray tracing disabled, and no upscaling or frame generation. Its results placed the Core i5-14600K and Ryzen 7 9700X range in a practical performance sweet spot. Because that test isolates CPU scaling, do not compare its frame rates directly with the TechRadar result: resolution, preset, ray tracing, upscaling and frame-generation state are different.

Why benchmarks do not transfer directly
Use a benchmark only when the key variables match. A native 1080p Ultra result cannot establish expected performance at 1440p Cinematic with ray tracing. Likewise, a frame-generation number includes generated images and should not be treated as the same thing as the underlying rendered frame rate or input response.
Settings that have the largest practical effect
Resolution and upscaling
Choose the monitor’s target resolution first. Then compare native rendering with DLSS or FSR upscaling. Upscaling reduces the internal render resolution and reconstructs the output, often trading some image detail for more performance. Judge foliage, distant geometry and motion—not only a still screenshot—when choosing between native and an upscaled mode.
Graphics preset
Use the game’s preset as a starting point, not a permanent answer. Cinematic and Ultra settings can be useful for evaluating image quality, but a lower preset may produce a steadier frame time on hardware near the minimum. Change one group of settings at a time and use the in-game preview so you know which adjustment produced the change.

Ray tracing
Ray tracing is a separate quality and performance decision. Measure it at the resolution and preset you intend to play, then compare the same scene with ray tracing disabled. Do not assume that a card meeting the recommended raster-performance tier will deliver the same result with ray-traced effects enabled.

Frame generation
TechRadar reports that DLSS and FSR Frame Generation can be toggled without restarting. Use that flexibility to establish a responsive base first. Frame generation creates intermediate frames; it can raise the displayed FPS, but it does not remove the input-latency characteristics of the underlying rendered frames. If camera movement feels delayed or controls feel inconsistent, turn it off and reassess the base frame rate.
A reliable tuning procedure
- Confirm the baseline. Verify the SSD, 16 GB of RAM and DirectX 12 before changing visual settings.
- Pick the target resolution. Set 1080p, 1440p or your ultrawide resolution according to the display you will actually use.
- Select a starting preset. Begin with the recommended GPU tier and use the preview to establish a repeatable scene.
- Test native rendering. Record average FPS and, more importantly, whether camera pans and combat feel steady.
- Test DLSS or FSR upscaling. Keep the preset, resolution and scene fixed so the comparison measures only the upscaler.
- Evaluate ray tracing separately. Toggle it at the intended resolution and compare both image quality and frame-time stability.
- Add frame generation last. Enable it only after the non-generated base feels responsive, then check latency and visual artifacts during traversal and combat.
- Recheck demanding areas. Test open-world traversal, dense settlements and combat rather than relying on a quiet menu or short benchmark.
Starting points by hardware tier
| Hardware or test case | Evidence-based starting point | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum-class system | Ryzen 5 2600X/Core i5-8500, RX 5500 XT/GTX 1060, 16 GB RAM | Use the game’s lower available quality settings, test native rendering first, then try DLSS or FSR if offered. No universal FPS is stated. |
| Recommended-class system | Ryzen 5 5600/Core i5-11600K, RX 6700 XT/RTX 2080, 16 GB RAM | Start at the desired resolution and a higher preset, then measure ray tracing and upscaling independently. |
| CPU-focused 1080p test | Core i5-14600K or Ryzen 7 9700X range, Ultra, ray tracing off, native 1080p | Tom’s Hardware identified this range as a practical CPU sweet spot under those exact conditions. |
| High-end ultrawide test | RTX 4080 Super, Ryzen 7 5700X3D, 32 GB RAM, native 3440×1440 Cinematic | TechRadar reported around 70 FPS or more in several demanding scenarios; treat it as an observed result, not a guarantee. |
Upgrade priorities when you miss the requirements
- Below 150 GB free or using an HDD: move the installation to an SSD and preserve update headroom. Storage is a hard requirement in the listing.
- Below 16 GB RAM: reach 16 GB before judging GPU performance. Keep background applications closed while testing.
- Below the minimum GPU tier: a graphics upgrade is the most direct way to approach the published floor. Check power, case clearance and video outputs before buying.
- Below the minimum CPU tier: replace the processor, motherboard or platform as required; lowering resolution will not solve a processor bottleneck.
- At the recommended tier but unhappy with frame time: test upscaling, disable ray tracing and compare frame generation only after the base result is stable.
Troubleshooting common problems
The game will not start
Recheck 64-bit Windows 10, DirectX 12, the GPU model and the SSD location. A missing requirement can prevent launch regardless of how strong another component is. Install pending system and graphics-driver updates, then restart before testing again.
Stutter during traversal
Monitor RAM, VRAM and disk activity in Task Manager or your GPU overlay. Confirm the game is on the SSD, close background programs, and test a lower preset or upscaling mode. Repeat the test in the same demanding area so changes are comparable.
Low FPS with high GPU usage
Lower output resolution or enable an upscaler, then test ray tracing separately. If the GPU is already fully occupied, reducing CPU-heavy settings will not provide the same benefit as reducing render workload.
Best Value
- CPU: AMD Ryzen7 5700X (up to 4.6GHz) 8-Core 16-Thread to easily handle multi-line tasks
- Main board: MSI B550M-A PRO motherboard provides reliable performance and stability
- GPU: Geforce RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7 Graphics Cards (Brand may vary) Support DLSS 4 multi frame generation, ray tracing, and Reflex 2 delay optimization
- RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz (16GB*2) SSD: 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe
- Power supply: 650W (80plus bronze) certified for energy efficiency and stable performance
Low GPU usage and uneven FPS
Check CPU utilization by core, background tasks and thermal throttling. The 1080p CPU-scaling results from Tom’s Hardware show why a processor can matter even when the graphics card is capable. Compare native and upscaled modes only after confirming that the CPU is not the limiter.
Frame generation feels laggy
Disable frame generation and compare the underlying frame rate and controls. If the base rate is unstable, generated frames can make motion look smoother without making input feel equally responsive. Re-enable the feature only when the non-generated result feels good.
Bottom line
A PC that meets the minimum list has the required platform, but the recommended RX 6700 XT/RTX 2080 class is a more appropriate starting point for higher-quality play. The safest setup process is to verify the SSD, 16 GB RAM and DirectX 12, establish a native baseline, then test upscaling, ray tracing and frame generation one at a time. Independent results show that even powerful systems vary by resolution and preset, so use the game’s preview and demanding gameplay areas rather than treating a single FPS figure as universal.
