An independent modder has shown an early test connecting two players in Crimson Desert over Steam. The prototype reportedly lets players see each other move, attack, and change equipment, but it does not synchronize their worlds or quests. It is a community experiment—not a released or officially supported co-op mode.
What the early co-op test can do
Modder No-Context2224 described the test in a Reddit post: “I’ve been working on a co-op mod for Crimson Desert, and today I got to test it for the first time with a friend over Steam.” That is the modder’s account of a first test, not a statement from Pearl Abyss. Read the modder’s Reddit post.

Actions visible to the other player
According to the modder, the test showed another player moving—including jumping, gliding, and climbing—along with attack and skill animations and effects. Equipment changes were visible, too. The modder also described an experimental feature that mirrors damage to the same enemy in each player’s world. The feature details come from the modder’s post.
What does not synchronize
The players still have separate worlds. Enemies may therefore be in different places, and the damage-mirroring experiment does not make the worlds fully shared. Quests, loot, and inventory remain separate, the modder says. Wccftech also reports that local world interactions—such as pulling trees or grabbing chickens—affect only the player who performs them. The modder said a friend appeared to ride thin air when using a horse. These are limitations reported for the first test, not assurances about any later version. Wccftech’s report and the modder’s post describe the test.

Is Crimson Desert officially multiplayer?
No official co-op mode is confirmed by the available reporting. TechRadar says multiplayer has been discussed as a possibility, while noting Pearl Abyss’s comments about the complexity and potential of integrating it. That supports describing multiplayer as under consideration—not as a committed feature, announced player count, promised co-op campaign, or mode with a release date. TechRadar’s report does not establish a launch schedule or confirmed scope.
The test described by No-Context2224 should not be treated as a playable public release. The sources do not establish that this prototype is available to download.

Why the test recalls Crimson Desert’s MMO origins
Wccftech characterizes Crimson Desert as having begun development as an MMO before shifting into a single-player experience. The community test may bring that history to mind, but it does not show that the current game retains working MMO systems or that Pearl Abyss is restoring the original design. Wccftech’s account of the project’s history is the basis for that context.

A GitHub README documents another project called “CrimsonDesertCoop,” describing a two-player mod using Steam peer-to-peer networking and providing installation instructions. The available evidence does not connect that project, attributed to blizz3010, with No-Context2224’s early test. Its documented player count, setup, or features should not be attributed to the prototype in the Reddit post. See the separate GitHub project.
