What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Short answer: Xbox Series X|S is the simpler, controller-first option, with an officially optimized console build, Xbox achievements, cloud saves, Xbox Play Anywhere labeling, and Xbox Cloud Gaming support. PC offers more flexibility because you can use a mouse and keyboard or a controller, but you must meet the published Windows hardware requirements. There is no authoritative Xbox-versus-PC benchmark for frame rate, resolution, loading times, or input latency, so neither platform can be declared objectively faster from the available specifications alone.
Xbox vs PC at a glance
| Category | Xbox Series X|S | PC (Steam) |
|---|---|---|
| Release listed by the platform store | 17 April 2025 | 14 August 2024 |
| Supported hardware | Xbox Series X|S; Xbox Cloud Gaming is listed | Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit system |
| Input emphasis | Console controller experience | Mouse and keyboard or controller, depending on your setup |
| Platform features | Xbox achievements, cloud saves, Xbox Play Anywhere, “Optimized for XBOX Series X|S” | Steam Achievements |
| Graphics information published by the platform | No resolution, frame-rate, VRR, or loading-time target stated | GTX 1060 minimum; RTX 2070 SUPER recommended |
| Storage | Not stated in the Xbox listing | 35 GB |
| Cloud access | Xbox Cloud Gaming listed; Game Pass Premium and Ultimate are listed as cloud-play routes, subject to region and tier | No equivalent Steam cloud-streaming route is established here |
| Achievement parity | Xbox achievement system; current total can change with updates | Steam Achievements; a definitive current one-to-one list with Xbox is not established |
The practical choice is therefore about access and setup rather than a proven performance winner. Choose Xbox when you want a ready-to-play console experience and Microsoft ecosystem features. Choose PC when you already have suitable hardware or want the option of mouse-and-keyboard input and more control over your system configuration.

Release dates and where each version fits
PC launched first on Steam
Steam lists Crime Scene Cleaner as released on 14 August 2024. The listing identifies President Studio as the developer and President Studio and PlayWay S.A. as publishers. The PC version is distributed through Steam and requires a Windows computer that meets the stated CPU, memory, graphics, and storage requirements.

Microsoft’s Xbox listing gives 17 April 2025 as the release date for the Xbox/Play Anywhere listing. It labels the game “Optimized for XBOX Series X|S” and lists Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming as supported destinations. That date is later than the Steam launch, so an Xbox player is looking at a subsequent console release rather than the original PC launch.

What Play Anywhere means for a buyer
The Xbox store marks the title as Xbox Play Anywhere and lists Xbox cloud saves. Those labels identify Microsoft ecosystem features, but the exact entitlement rules, account requirements, and regional availability should be checked in the store attached to your Microsoft account before purchase. Do not assume that a Steam purchase automatically grants the Xbox edition, or that every regional storefront exposes every Play Anywhere or cloud option in the same way.
Controls: controller-first Xbox, flexible PC input
What is established
Xbox is a console platform built around controller play. On PC, the game can be approached with a mouse and keyboard or with a controller, depending on the hardware and configuration you use. That makes PC the more flexible choice if you strongly prefer mouse aiming, keyboard shortcuts, or a particular controller.
What is not documented
The official store pages do not publish a complete button map, keyboard-and-mouse table, remapping support, or input-latency measurements for either platform. They also do not establish that every Xbox configuration supports mouse and keyboard. Claims such as “mouse and keyboard feels better,” “the Xbox controller is smoother,” or “the console has less input lag” are opinions unless backed by an independent, like-for-like test.
| Control question | Xbox Series X|S | PC |
|---|---|---|
| Default expectation | Controller-based console play | Mouse and keyboard or controller, depending on setup |
| Official complete bindings published? | No | No |
| Official remapping details published? | No | No |
| Input-latency measurement published? | No | No |
| Best reason to choose this platform | Consistent living-room controller setup | Choice of input devices and the ability to use existing PC peripherals |
How to decide based on your controls
- Pick Xbox if you already play comfortably with a standard console controller and do not want to configure a desktop setup.
- Pick PC if you need mouse-and-keyboard input, want to switch between input devices, or prefer playing at a desk.
- Verify before buying if a specific key binding, accessibility device, or remapping feature is essential. Neither store page supplies a definitive control list.
Performance: published PC requirements versus an optimized console label
PC minimum and recommended specifications
Steam publishes the following requirements. The minimum specification is intended to identify the lower supported hardware baseline; it is not a promise of a particular frame rate or image quality.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10/11, 64-bit | Windows 10/11, 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-7500 or similar | Intel Core i5-10600 or similar |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | GeForce GTX 1060 | GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER |
| Storage | 35 GB available space | 35 GB available space |
Steam also states that integrated graphics are unsupported and that Intel ARC may not yet be supported. A computer that falls below the listed graphics requirement, uses only integrated graphics, or relies on an ARC card should not be treated as a known-compatible configuration.
What “Optimized for XBOX Series X|S” does and does not tell you
Microsoft’s label confirms that the console build is designated for Xbox Series X|S optimization. The listing does not specify a target resolution, frame-rate mode, variable-refresh-rate behavior, or loading-time target. It also does not provide a frame-time chart or a direct comparison with a PC using the recommended RTX 2070 SUPER.
Consequently, it is accurate to say that Xbox offers a standardized hardware target while PC performance depends on the exact processor, graphics card, drivers, operating-system state, and settings. It is not accurate to claim a fixed Xbox frame rate, a guaranteed resolution, or that Xbox is faster than every PC.
Use the requirements to screen a PC before purchase
- Check the operating system: confirm that the machine runs a 64-bit edition of Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Check the processor: compare your CPU with an Intel Core i5-7500-class minimum or an i5-10600-class recommended target.
- Check memory: verify that 16 GB of RAM is installed.
- Check the graphics processor: compare it with a GTX 1060 minimum or RTX 2070 SUPER recommended level. Do not rely on integrated graphics.
- Check free storage: reserve at least 35 GB for the installation, leaving additional room for the operating system and updates.
- Check unusual hardware: if the system uses Intel ARC, treat compatibility as unresolved based on Steam’s warning and confirm current support before buying.
Achievements and completion time
Both versions have achievements
The Xbox listing exposes Xbox achievements, while Steam lists Steam Achievements. The existence of an achievement system is therefore confirmed on both platforms, but the systems are separate: Xbox rewards contribute to Gamerscore, while Steam achievements are tracked in Steam.

Xbox totals can change after updates
Third-party TrueAchievements search data estimates 15–20 hours for the base achievement set and reports an updated Xbox listing with 68 achievements worth 1,360 Gamerscore. Those numbers come from a database rather than Microsoft’s store page, so treat them as a snapshot and recheck the listing before planning a completion run.
A TrueAchievements news result also reports a March 2026 story update that added new Xbox achievements for Xbox Series X|S and PC/Game Pass players. That update history is why an older guide or achievement list may no longer match the current Xbox total.
Are Xbox and Steam achievements identical?
There is no definitive, current, one-to-one parity table established between the Xbox and Steam lists. The presence of achievements on both stores does not prove that every objective, condition, name, or update is identical. If you are pursuing a specific completion total, inspect the current achievement list on the platform where you will play and check for updates after installing the game.

Cloud gaming, subscriptions, and ownership choices
Xbox cloud routes
The Xbox listing includes Xbox Cloud Gaming. It lists cloud play with Game Pass Premium and Ultimate, subject to the applicable tier and region. The listing says Game Pass Essential requires a purchase to stream the game. Because subscription catalogs and cloud rights can change, confirm the current plan and regional store page before relying on a subscription.
Standalone purchase versus subscription
A standalone digital purchase is the most predictable route if you want permanent access independent of a subscription catalog. Game Pass can be useful when your current tier and region include cloud play, but access depends on maintaining the subscription and on the title remaining available under that tier. A Steam purchase is separate from Xbox purchasing and does not establish Xbox entitlement.
Cloud saves and device changes
Xbox lists cloud saves, which is useful when moving between compatible Xbox devices or using the Microsoft ecosystem. Cloud saves do not imply that a Steam save transfers to Xbox, and the available information does not establish cross-platform save conversion. Treat Steam and Xbox progress as separate unless the platform explicitly states otherwise.
Which platform should you choose?
Choose Xbox Series X|S when these priorities matter
- You want a standardized console installation without selecting PC components or graphics settings.
- You prefer controller-first play from a sofa or television.
- You value Xbox achievements, cloud saves, Play Anywhere labeling, or Xbox Cloud Gaming.
- Your current Game Pass Premium or Ultimate tier and region list the game for cloud play.
Choose PC when these priorities matter
- You want the option of mouse-and-keyboard input as well as controller play.
- Your computer meets or exceeds the published Windows requirements, especially the dedicated graphics requirement.
- You prefer Steam’s achievement tracking or already own the game ecosystem there.
- You are comfortable checking drivers, free storage, and hardware compatibility yourself.
Do not choose based on an unverified performance promise
The available platform listings do not provide the measurements needed to prove that Xbox has a higher frame rate, that PC has lower latency, or that one platform loads levels faster. If those metrics determine your purchase, look for a current, independently measured test of the exact Xbox model and PC configuration you intend to use rather than treating the store labels as benchmarks.
Practical pre-purchase checklist
- Identify whether you will play on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, or a Windows PC.
- For PC, compare every listed requirement, not just the processor. The dedicated graphics requirement and 35 GB storage figure are particularly easy to overlook.
- Decide whether controller-only simplicity or PC input flexibility is more important to you.
- Check the current Xbox store in your region for Play Anywhere, cloud-play eligibility, and the active Game Pass tier.
- Open the current achievement list on your chosen platform if a particular completion total matters.
- Keep expectations realistic about performance: “Optimized for XBOX Series X|S” is a platform designation, not a published FPS or resolution guarantee.
Bottom line for Xbox and PC players
Xbox Series X|S is the lower-friction choice: it has a later, officially optimized console release and Microsoft lists achievements, cloud saves, Play Anywhere, and cloud gaming. PC is the more adaptable choice for people who meet the Windows requirements and want mouse-and-keyboard or controller options. The evidence does not support a measured performance winner, and achievement parity remains uncertain after Xbox updates. Base your decision on input preference, hardware, subscription access, and the achievement ecosystem you actually use.
