It assigns an estimated monetary value to earned-media exposure or engagement, which can help teams benchmark activity—but it is not sales, profit, or proof of financial return. CreatorIQ describes EMV alongside its complementary Social Media Value (SMV) methodology; Traackr categorizes EMV as cost equivalency and presents its Brand Vitality Score (VIT) as a broader measure of visibility, impact, and brand trust. To compare the platforms, examine their definitions and inputs, reporting, comparability, and ability to connect creator activity to tracked business outcomes.
What EMV measures—and what it does not
EMV is an estimate assigned to earned-media exposure or engagement. CreatorIQ describes its approach as valuing content according to the platform and engagement—such as likes, comments, shares, or video views—and attributing that value to brands mentioned in a post. That is CreatorIQ’s vendor-described methodology, not a universal industry formula or observed financial return. Its 2022 measurement guide says EMV can help benchmark a creator’s impact on a brand’s earned-media footprint over time, but cautions against treating it as an isolated measure. Traackr calls EMV a cost-equivalency measure: a way to compare influencer marketing with other marketing disciplines, such as digital advertising. Its glossary warns that EMV can be misused as a performance metric. A dollar figure in an EMV report does not, by itself, say how many sales a campaign generated, what profit it produced, or whether it paid back its cost. Traackr’s glossary of influencer marketing terms
That distinction matters when someone presents a large EMV total as proof of ROI. Traackr CMO Evy Lyons explains that a $1 million EMV figure is not evidence of $1 million in sales or company value; the metric does not measure ROI or identify what is working. How CreatorIQ and Traackr frame measurement
The vendors’ public materials describe different measurement concepts, so EMV and VIT should not be treated as interchangeable scores. The comparison below reflects vendor descriptions, not independent feature testing.
| Dimension | CreatorIQ | Traackr |
|---|---|---|
| EMV’s role | Estimates the value of engagement with digital earned media; presented as useful for benchmarking and competitive views. | Described as cost equivalency; Traackr cautions against using it as a performance metric or interpreting it as ROI. |
| Named complementary approach | Social Media Value (SMV), described as a proprietary methodology that complements EMV. CreatorIQ’s methodology overview | Brand Vitality Score (VIT), framed around visibility, impact, and brand trust. Traackr’s glossary |
| Broader reporting context | Campaign, program, and business-level reporting; its reporting page describes configurable dashboards, community tracking, and competitive reporting. CreatorIQ’s reporting and insights overview | Campaign tracking, competitive benchmarking, cross-program comparisons, spend-efficiency measures, and integrations are described on its platform page. | Evidence boundary | These are CreatorIQ’s own descriptions; the available materials do not establish independent accuracy or ROI performance. | These are Traackr’s own descriptions; the available materials do not establish independent accuracy or ROI performance. |
SMV and VIT are not presented as equivalent measures. SMV is described by CreatorIQ as complementary to EMV. Traackr’s VIT combines visibility (reach), impact (engagement), and brand trust (quality of brand mention) into a broader brand-performance score. Traackr also describes spend-efficiency measures such as cost per post, view, engagement, and click. Those measures answer different questions from an estimated media-value total.

How to compare the platforms for your program
Start with what your team needs to decide. If the goal is to compare earned-media activity over time, EMV may be a useful benchmarking input. If the goal is to decide whether a program generated business results, ask how the platform connects creator activity to conversions or revenue rather than treating EMV as the answer.
Check the metric definitions and inputs
Ask each vendor for the precise formula and the inputs behind the numbers. Establish which platforms, content types, and engagement signals are included; how those signals are weighted; and how brand mentions are attributed. Ask for an example calculation your team can inspect, not just an aggregate dashboard figure.
Rank #3
Test whether comparisons are meaningful
Find out how each system handles different channels, creator audience sizes, and paid versus organic content. CreatorIQ’s 2022 guide cautions that EMV alone can favor a larger account: one post from a large creator may produce more EMV than more frequent posting by a smaller creator. Compare engagement, posting activity, and audience scale alongside any EMV figure, and confirm that the platform’s normalization choices suit your program.
Separate reporting breadth from proof of ROI
CreatorIQ describes configurable dashboards, community tracking, and competitive reporting; Traackr describes campaign tracking, cross-program comparisons, competitive benchmarking, and spend-efficiency measures. Those capabilities can help teams organize and compare activity, but the vendor descriptions do not independently establish that either platform produces more accurate ROI measurement. Ask what reporting is available, what underlying evidence can be exported, and whether the system links content to outcomes your organization tracks.

Confirm commercial and implementation details
Ask what features, data, integrations, and reporting are included in the current plan and contract. The public materials cited here do not establish pricing or what a particular customer’s package includes, so confirm those details directly with the vendor before comparing total cost or implementation requirements.

Build a scorecard that distinguishes activity from outcomes
A useful creator measurement plan layers indicators rather than relying on one summary number. CreatorIQ’s State of Creator Marketing 2025–2026 reports that respondents were nearly evenly split across multiple metrics when asked which metric was most useful for justifying creator programs to leadership, and recommends outcomes-based measurement. The retrieved report material does not provide enough sample or survey-method detail to assess how representative that finding is; treat it as a report finding, not a universal industry conclusion. Best Value
- Awareness: Track reach or views where relevant, and use EMV only as an explicitly defined estimate for benchmarking.
- Engagement: Review interactions and engagement rate alongside posting activity, rather than reading a value total in isolation.
- Efficiency: Compare spend with defined outputs such as cost per post, view, engagement, or click where those measures fit the campaign.
- Financial outcomes: Use tracked conversions, revenue, or profit measures when evaluating financial return. Confirm how creator activity is linked to those outcomes and what evidence supports the attribution.
The right platform depends on the program’s goals and the measurement workflow your team needs. The available vendor materials support a comparison of stated approaches and reporting context, but do not establish which product delivers better ROI or value for a specific buyer.
