To host Create a Colony – MineColonies / Create / MCA with friends, first pin the exact modpack release listed for Minecraft 1.19.2 and Forge. Then either use a hosted service through CurseForge Servers, which requires a matching server pack, or install the matching Forge server yourself and place the release’s mod JAR files in the server’s mods folder. Every player must use the same Minecraft Java Edition version, Forge loader, modpack release and configuration files.

What Create a Colony is, and why the version matters

Create a Colony – MineColonies / Create / MCA is listed as a Minecraft 1.19.2 Forge modpack built around settlement management, invention, planning, trading and shared village development. MineColonies supplies the town-management systems: players establish a colony, assign non-player workers and expand specialized buildings. Create provides the automation theme that can support production and logistics as the settlement grows.

Do not treat every MineColonies download as interchangeable. MineColonies itself has releases for several Minecraft versions and supports both client and server environments, while this particular pack listing targets Forge on Minecraft 1.19.2. A client profile from one release can fail against server files from another even when both are described as MineColonies packs.

Pin these three items before downloading

  • The complete Create a Colony pack release number.
  • Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2, if that is the version shown by the selected release.
  • The Forge build required by that release.

Write those values in a small server note and give the note to every player. If the pack later moves to a different release, treat the change as an upgrade project rather than replacing a few files at random.

Choose hosted or self-hosted operation

There are two sensible deployment paths. A hosted instance is simpler for a first server because the provider handles the public address, machine and much of the file deployment. Self-hosting gives you direct control over files, backups and policies, but you are responsible for the computer, network exposure and recovery work.

Decision point Hosted CurseForge route Self-hosted Forge route
Setup effort Lower: choose the pack and server-pack file in the guided workflow. Higher: install Forge, assemble files and maintain the launch setup.
Control Provider panel controls the instance; access depends on the plan. Direct control of the server files, Java/Forge process and policies.
Recurring cost A paid hosting plan; current price depends on plan and region. No hosting subscription is required, but your own hardware, electricity and internet capacity are used.
Port forwarding Normally handled by the host; you connect to the address it supplies. Your network must accept the Minecraft connection on the configured server port, or players must use a private network method.
Backups Use the provider’s backup tools if included, and confirm retention before relying on them. You create and test your own world, configuration and modpack backups.
Server-pack availability The CurseForge workflow requires a matching server pack for the selected modpack. Use the published server pack when available; otherwise assemble the same release manually.
Player count and performance Choose a plan appropriate for your expected players and world activity; no pack-specific RAM figure is established here. Performance depends on your CPU, memory, storage, network and configuration; measure the running server rather than copying a generic number.

CurseForge’s server workflow is the shortest path when the listing offers a compatible server pack. If no matching server pack is published, self-hosting or another provider that supports manual uploads may be necessary.

Hosted setup with CurseForge Servers

CurseForge’s guided process is designed to turn a modpack with a matching server pack into a managed multiplayer instance. CurseForge Servers are powered by Shockbyte, so the final controls appear in the provider’s management panel after the initial selection.

  1. Open the server workflow. In the CurseForge app, choose Servers.
  2. Select the exact pack release. Find Create a Colony – MineColonies / Create / MCA and confirm that the listing and release target Minecraft 1.19.2 with Forge. Do not select a similarly named MineColonies project for another Minecraft version.
  3. Choose the matching server-pack filename. The workflow depends on a server pack that corresponds to the selected modpack release. If the available file does not match the release you recorded, stop and verify the listing instead of proceeding.
  4. Select a plan and region. Pick a location reasonably close to most players. The available plans, limits and prices vary, so record the selected plan for future troubleshooting.
  5. Enter server details. Set the instance name and any requested account or access information. Keep the name distinct from other Minecraft servers so players do not join the wrong world.
  6. Finish creation and open the provider panel. Wait for the files to deploy, then use the panel to start and stop the instance, view console output and apply the provider’s available backup or access controls.
  7. Confirm the first startup. Watch the console for a completed Forge launch rather than assuming that a created instance is ready. Dependency, loader or pack-version errors should be fixed before inviting players.
  8. Record the connection details privately. Share the address and port only with the intended group, and enable a whitelist before the first public session.

What to verify before paying for a hosted plan

  • The provider can deploy the exact Create a Colony release, not merely MineColonies in general.
  • A matching server pack is available for that release.
  • The selected region is available to your players.
  • The plan includes the controls you need for restarts, logs and backups.
  • You can download or restore the world if you later move to self-hosting.

Hosting advertisements and discounts change. Confirm the current plan, region, price and pack support in the server workflow before committing.

Self-hosted setup on Forge

Self-hosting is appropriate when you want complete control or when the selected release has no usable server pack. The exact launch command and Java requirements come from the Minecraft and Forge distribution you install, so follow the files supplied with that release rather than copying a command from an unrelated version.

1. Prepare a clean server directory

Create a new directory dedicated to this world. Keeping it separate from other Minecraft servers prevents old mods, configurations and libraries from being mixed into the installation. Download the exact Create a Colony release you selected and keep a copy of its client profile information for comparison later.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Install the required Forge build

Install the Forge version required by the chosen pack release. The MineColonies installation guidance uses Forge for the documented CurseForge path. A Forge server for another Minecraft version is not a substitute, even if it starts successfully: world generation, registries and mod dependencies can still be incompatible.

3. Use the server pack when one exists

If the pack publisher provides a server pack for your release, use that as the base installation. It is the cleanest way to obtain the server-side files and matching configuration. Check the archive name and release number before extracting it into the new server directory.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

4. Assemble files manually when necessary

When no server pack is published, assemble the server installation and mod files from the same release. The manual MineColonies guidance places the required mod JAR files in the server’s mods folder. Do not copy only the mods you recognize: a dependency or configuration file omitted from the release can produce a missing-mod error or a world that behaves differently from the client.

5. Run once and accept the EULA

Start the server with the Forge launch script or command supplied by the installation. The first run normally creates the configuration structure and stops until you accept Minecraft’s EULA in the file provided by that distribution. Read the EULA and set the required value before starting again. The exact Java runtime and launch arguments depend on the Minecraft and Forge files you installed.

6. Configure server.properties

Open server.properties and set the policies appropriate for your group. At minimum, review the server port, difficulty, whitelist behavior and view distance. Make the settings before the first shared session so players do not build around rules you later change. Keep a copy of the file with your release notes.

7. Start, observe and stop cleanly

Launch the supplied Forge script or command and read the console from beginning to end. Look for dependency failures, wrong Minecraft or Forge versions, registry errors and repeated tick or save warnings. Stop the server through its console command or provider control rather than closing the process abruptly, then make a backup before opening the port.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

8. Handle network access safely

Self-hosting usually requires your router or firewall to allow the configured Minecraft port to reach the server computer. The exact forwarding screen differs by router, so document the rule you create and remove it if you retire the server. Give friends the address and port privately, enable the whitelist, and avoid publishing your home address in a public post.

Make the client installation match

Every player must run Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2, the same Forge loader build and the identical Create a Colony pack release as the server. Matching the visible mod list is not always enough; configuration files can change recipes, world settings or dependency behavior.

  1. Install the pack release recorded by the server operator.
  2. Confirm the profile uses the same Minecraft and Forge versions.
  3. Use the release’s configuration files rather than older files copied from another instance.
  4. Launch once in single-player or the modpack launcher to confirm that the client loads before joining.
  5. Connect with the server address and port supplied by the operator.

A matching server pack is the cleanest deployment artifact when one is available. If a player sees a missing-mod or mismatched-version message, compare the client’s mods and configuration files with the server’s pack release before changing individual files.

Decide who controls the colony

  • Name the player or group responsible for the initial colony and permission settings.
  • Decide whether new players join one shared colony or establish separate settlements.
  • Mark boundaries and travel routes so farms, mines and Create machinery do not block future buildings.
  • Set a process for approving major changes such as relocating the town hall or claiming a new area.

Assign early responsibilities

Workers can include builders, farmers, guards, miners, bakers, cooks, couriers and animal herders. Buildings include a warehouse, town hall, barracks, library, university and school. Divide responsibilities around the group’s interests: one player can plan housing and defenses, another can organize food and farming, while another develops Create-based automation and item movement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Explain the automation goal

Create a Colony’s promise is a settlement where planning and logistics matter. Explain that automation should support the colony rather than bypass every progression step. Decide where machines may be built, how shared materials are stored and who can alter production lines. A simple warehouse policy and labeled storage system prevents duplicate builds and lost supplies.

Operations, backups and updates

Back up before every meaningful change

Stop the server cleanly, then copy the world, configuration files and the exact modpack or server-pack archive. Keep at least one backup away from the live server directory. Test that a backup can be opened on a separate copy before treating it as a recovery plan.

Record the running release

Maintain a text note containing the pack release, Minecraft version, Forge build, server address, port, whitelist administrators and the date of the last backup. This turns a future support request into a comparison rather than guesswork.

Upgrade deliberately

Do not replace a single mod JAR because a newer file appears online. First check whether the pack publisher has released a new coordinated pack version. Back up the world, install the new release in a separate test directory and confirm that the server starts before scheduling the upgrade for players. Keep the old directory intact until everyone has connected successfully.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Watch performance without inventing a RAM target

No pack-specific memory recommendation is established for this release. Performance depends on player count, colony size, automation activity, world generation, hardware and view-distance settings. Watch console timings and lag during construction or large automated processes, then adjust the configured view distance or reduce simultaneous activity in measured steps. Increasing memory alone does not correct a wrong Forge build, a missing dependency or an overloaded automation network.

Troubleshoot the common failures

Symptom Likely cause Action
Server stops during startup with a missing-mod message. A required JAR or dependency is absent, or the files come from different releases. Rebuild from the matching server pack, or compare the server’s mods folder with the exact client release. Do not download a random newer dependency.
Incompatible Minecraft or Forge version error. The client and server use different loader or game versions. Read the version shown in the error, then install the exact Forge and Minecraft versions recorded for the pack.
A player can launch the client but cannot join. Wrong address or port, blocked forwarding, whitelist denial or a pack mismatch. Confirm the address and configured port privately, check the whitelist, and compare the player’s pack, Forge build, mods and configuration files.
The world loads but recipes or machines behave differently. Client and server configuration files differ. Restore the configuration files from the same pack release and restart both sides. Avoid merging settings from an older world until you know which files control them.
Players report lag during colony expansion. Large numbers of workers, machines, entities or distant chunks are active at once. Check the console during the slowdown, lower view distance in measured steps, spread heavy automation and schedule large construction for quieter periods.
A world becomes unstable after an update. Files were replaced without a coordinated pack upgrade or a rollback copy. Stop the server, restore the pre-update backup and old installation, then test the complete new release separately.

Final pre-launch checklist

  • Exact Create a Colony release recorded.
  • Minecraft Java Edition and Forge versions match the release.
  • Hosted deployment uses its matching server pack, or self-hosting uses the complete manual file set.
  • Server starts cleanly and the EULA requirement is completed.
  • server.properties has the intended port, difficulty, whitelist and view distance.
  • World and configuration backups exist before the first public connection.
  • Every player has the same client pack, Forge loader and configuration files.
  • Colony ownership, building boundaries, permissions and shared-storage rules are agreed.

For a small friend group, use the hosted workflow when a matching server pack is available and you want the least network administration. Choose self-hosting when you need file-level control or the release lacks a server pack. In either case, version discipline is the rule that keeps a Create a Colony server joinable: one Minecraft version, one Forge build, one pack release and one documented set of configuration files.
