What is the Crazy Creek Boat Chair?
Crazy Creek announced the Boat Chair as a Type IV throwable PFD built around the company’s legless-chair design. In chair configuration, it is intended to provide a seat; folded, it is intended to function as throwable safety equipment. Those are the two uses described in the launch announcement, not results from independent testing.

The Outdoor Industry Association announcement, dated September 18, 2026, says the chair can be used on a boat, dock, shoreline or in the water. It also describes an extra-thick bottom cushion, reflective trim, quick-dry fabric and a folding format designed to fit most boat storage compartments. The announcement says the cushion adds buoyancy and comfort on hard surfaces and that the trim improves visibility in low light; those performance statements have not been independently measured.

Is it Coast Guard approved, and what does Type IV mean?
The Outdoor Industry Association announcement describes the Boat Chair as a U.S. Coast Guard-approved Type IV throwable PFD. That is the announcement’s claim; a Coast Guard record was not independently checked. The same announcement says the design is for boats 16 feet and longer. That statement should not be treated as legal advice about the requirements for a particular vessel, location or trip.
Co-owner Karson Bagby explained the product’s intended versatility this way: “Every boat under 16 feet has to carry this gear anyway, so we thought why not make it versatile, comfortable, and something you’ll get more regular use out of.” This is the company’s explanation of its design intent, not guidance on what equipment a boater is legally required to carry.

When will the Boat Chair be available?
The announcement said availability through Crazy Creek and retailers would begin in November 2026. As of October 3, 2026, that date was still in the future, so the announcement does not establish that the chair is currently in stock. A live product listing and inventory were not verified.
