Cox (Now Spectrum) vs. AT&T Internet in 2026: Prices, Speeds, Reviews and Bundles

AT&T Fiber is usually the stronger choice when it serves your address and the price and speed fit your household, especially if you need matching upload and download speeds for video calls, cloud backups or large file transfers. Where AT&T Fiber does not reach your home, the real comparison is AT&T’s other fixed broadband against Spectrum, which is now the marketing name for Cox’s residential internet in former Cox markets. The provider name alone does not settle the outcome. Local technology, upload speed, the full monthly cost, data terms, equipment charges and your household’s actual usage do.

Prices and promotions in this article come from sources dated between 2024 and early October 2026. They change often, so confirm every figure against the address you plan to use before you sign up.

Start with your address, not the brand name

National plan pages cannot tell you which network or which tier a specific home can order. Spectrum’s internet page asks for an address before it shows available pricing and speeds, and AT&T says customers can view the plan labels offered at their location. Check both providers in the same order, using the same house, so the comparison is fair:

  1. Enter your address in AT&T’s address checker and note which access type appears: AT&T Fiber, AT&T fixed wireless such as Internet Air, or no service at all.
  2. Enter the same address on Spectrum’s internet page and note whether pricing and speeds appear for that address.
  3. For each plan you are considering, open its broadband label. AT&T’s support page states: “The FCC requires all service providers to make these labels available to you.” AT&T’s label guide says labels cover plans offered on or after April 10, 2024, so for an older plan, ask the provider what disclosure it has.
  4. Place the labels side by side and compare the same fields on each: monthly price, additional charges, typical upload, download and latency, and included data.

Cox is now Spectrum, and what that means for your bill

In former Cox markets, residential internet is now marketed as Spectrum. The consumer page now presented as Spectrum Internet describes the service as fiber-powered and delivered to the home over coaxial lines. It advertises no data caps and no contracts, and it shows example tiers of 100 Mbps, 500 Mbps and 1 Gig. Local availability and introductory prices depend on the address and on eligibility.

If you are already a Cox customer

Spectrum’s transition page says: “Your price and current plan will stay the same.” Its FAQ adds the qualification that matters: “There are no changes to your current plan or pricing at this time unless you choose to make them.” The page also says account information and billing continue as they are, and it describes enhancements planned as the transition continues.

Read “at this time” literally. The statement describes your plan as of early October 2026. It does not promise that legacy Cox pricing will never change. Before you compare, pull your current bill and your plan’s broadband label, and measure any Spectrum or AT&T offer against those figures.

If you are shopping as a new customer

New customers are directed to Spectrum offers, and those can differ from the terms on a legacy Cox account. Compare the Spectrum offer your address actually receives, not an older Cox plan described in a review or guide.

Offer Speeds (download / upload) Monthly price Conditions and source
Cox plan in the FCC’s 2024 analysis Up to 100 Mbps / upload not stated $30 per month Least expensive internet-only plan among ten providers the FCC analyzed, offered by Cox and Charter. Provider website data collected October 28, 2024. Federal Communications Commission, 2024 report.

Spectrum Internet page, checked early October 2026.

The FCC figure is the only government price benchmark here, and it describes a plan from 2024. It is not a current Cox price, and a 100 Mbps plan is not a like-for-like match for a 300 Mbps Fiber offer.

AT&T’s plan page advertises Fiber tiers up to 5 Gbps. Which tiers an address can order is address-specific, and the full page could not be verified for this article, so take exact AT&T price statements from the label for your address rather than from the examples above.

The honest answer to “Is AT&T Fiber cheaper than Cox?” is that these figures do not establish it. They differ in year, speed tier and promotion rules. A fair test uses the same speed, the same date and the same promotional terms at the same address.

Speed and upload: where fiber and cable differ

Download speed is the figure most advertising leads with, and it is the one least likely to reveal the difference between these networks. Look at typical upload speed first.

  • WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
  • SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
  • READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
  • COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.

Fiber tiers can deliver symmetrical speeds, where upload matches download. The AT&T examples above are symmetrical. Cable tiers can have substantially lower upload speeds than their download speeds, which matters if you send large files, back up to cloud storage or run several video calls at once.

Spectrum’s page describes its service as fiber-powered with a coaxial connection to the home, a hybrid design. That description does not tell you the upload speed of any tier. Upload figures for Spectrum’s example tiers are not stated on the page, so read them from the label for your address.

Working out the real monthly cost

The promotional monthly price is only the first number. The AT&T label’s listed price excludes promotions and government taxes, and its additional-charges section itemizes location-specific fees. Work through these steps before comparing totals:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Note the promotional price and how many months it lasts. The AT&T examples run 12 months.
  2. Find the regular monthly price that starts when the promotion ends. Spectrum’s introductory pricing is address-dependent and limited in duration.
  3. Check the AutoPay and paperless billing conditions. The AT&T examples apply to eligible customers who use both.
  4. Add government taxes, activation or installation charges, and any equipment rental.
  5. Calculate the cost over the promotional period and over a longer horizon. Use this formula: promotional price multiplied by promotional months, plus regular price multiplied by the remaining months, plus one-time charges.

Data allowance and contract terms

Spectrum’s current internet page advertises no data caps and no contracts. That describes the page as checked, not automatically every legacy Cox account. WhistleOut’s August 2026 guide describes Cox complaints about data limits under the older Cox naming, so those limits belong to the legacy plans it covered. Confirm data and contract terms on your own account disclosure before assuming either way.

Equipment and setup

Check four items on each offer before you accept it:

  • Whether a gateway or router is included, and whether you must use the provider’s equipment.
  • Whether there is a monthly equipment rental, and whether it continues after the promotion ends.
  • Whether your own router or mesh system works with the provider’s gateway, and whether the provider restricts modes such as bridge mode.
  • Installation and activation charges, and whether either one is waived for the offer.

If your complaint is weak Wi-Fi inside the house, a Wi-Fi 6 mesh system can help with coverage. It does not raise the speed the provider delivers to your home, resolve an outage, or make a service available where it is not offered. Confirm compatibility with your gateway before you buy.

Reviews and satisfaction rankings

WhistleOut’s review summary (August 2026)

WhistleOut’s August 2026 guide summarizes online customer reviews rather than running a survey. Cox complaints centered on higher prices and data limits, though some reviewers praised its speed. AT&T complaints centered on outages and slow speeds. The guide calls the review comparison a tie, because online reviews are subjective.

CableTV.com’s 2024 satisfaction survey

CableTV.com’s 2024 customer satisfaction survey ranked AT&T seventh and Cox fourteenth. That is the publisher’s own survey from 2024, and it reflects the customers who answered that year, not service at your address today. Its sample and method are not summarized here, so read them on the publisher’s site before you cite the ranking.

Bundles: wireless add-ons and what to check

Both providers market bundle-style offers. WhistleOut’s guide describes AT&T wireless-linked offers, and Spectrum’s plans page promotes a mobile line. Neither bundle is automatically cheaper. This article does not list bundle prices, because current figures were not established for either provider. Before you count a bundle as savings:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Confirm eligibility, including any requirement that the internet and mobile lines sit on the same account or a particular plan.
  • Check when the offer expires and what the line costs once any credit ends.
  • Compare the bundle total with buying internet and mobile service separately, using the same taxes and fees.
  • Skip any line you would not use, because an unused add-on adds cost without adding value.

Choosing between them

  • If AT&T Fiber is offered at your address and you regularly upload large files or run video calls, start with AT&T’s symmetrical tiers and compare their labels with Spectrum’s.
  • If AT&T Fiber is not available at your address, compare AT&T’s other fixed broadband, such as fixed wireless, with Spectrum on typical speeds and total cost.
  • If you are an existing Cox customer, keep your current bill as the baseline and switch only when an offer beats both its total cost and its speeds.
  • If you stream heavily or work from home, check the data terms and typical upload speed on each label before weighing price.
