But that is evidence of a reported plan, not proof of a signed commercial deal, operating production, or added revenue for Intel. The project could create a foundry opportunity; whether it becomes a meaningful financial benefit remains unestablished.
Why Intel is the likely stock—and why that identification is not certain
The headline does not name a company, and the available reporting does not confirm that Intel was its intended subject. Intel is a plausible inference because a Reuters factbox syndicated by Investing.com linked Terafab to Intel’s 14A process. That connection is the strongest company-specific clue in the cited material, but it should not be treated as confirmation of the headline’s intended stock.

There is an important distinction between a process being named in reporting and a business relationship that is fully defined. The sources do not establish a signed manufacturing contract, commercial terms, order volumes, production milestones, or expected revenue for Intel. Without those details, investors cannot tell whether the reported link would become a substantial source of sales or remain a plan that changes as the project develops.
What Musk’s Terafab plan is reported to include
Reuters reported on March 22, 2026, that Elon Musk said Tesla and SpaceX would build two advanced chip factories in Austin. The stated purposes differ: one factory is intended to supply chips for cars and humanoid robots; the other is intended for AI data centers in space. The Reuters factbox described the effort as Terafab and reported that Tesla said it would use Intel’s next-generation 14A manufacturing process.

Those reports describe an announced plan, not an operating fab. They do not establish when either facility would begin production, how much capacity it would have, what it would cost, or how many chips it might make. Nor do they explain how the two proposed facilities would divide manufacturing responsibilities or what portion, if any, Intel would supply.
What the reported figures do—and do not—tell investors
Tesla’s 2025 Form 10-K, filed in 2026, provides scale for the company’s broader investment plans, but it does not assign those amounts to Terafab. The filing said Tesla expected capital expenditures in excess of $20 billion in 2026, driven by AI initiatives among other investments. It also disclosed an agreement entered in January 2026 to invest approximately $2 billion in xAI Series E preferred stock. Neither figure is a Terafab budget or evidence of revenue for Intel.

| Figure | What the source says | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| In excess of $20 billion | Tesla’s expected company-wide capital expenditures for 2026, disclosed in its 2025 Form 10-K filed in 2026. | How much, if any, is allocated to Terafab or to a manufacturing arrangement with Intel. |
| Approximately $2 billion | Tesla’s disclosed investment in xAI Series E preferred stock under an agreement entered in January 2026. | Terafab construction spending, chip purchases, or Intel revenue. |
| Terafab cost, capacity and schedule | Not stated in the cited Reuters reports or Tesla filing. | The project’s funding needs, production scale or timing. |
Terafab would not necessarily replace existing chip suppliers
Reuters reported on March 18, 2026, that Musk said Tesla and SpaceX AI expected to continue ordering chips from Nvidia at scale, while Tesla was designing a fifth-generation AI chip. That context complicates any simple story in which a new factory immediately displaces existing suppliers. The reporting does not say how future purchases would be divided among suppliers, which workloads or products would use which chips, or whether Terafab output would complement or replace outside purchases.
What would show that the Intel thesis is becoming real
The key question is not just whether Terafab is built, but whether Intel receives a material, durable commercial role. Investors assessing the possibility should look for evidence in several areas:

- Commercial terms: a disclosed agreement, customer commitment or other company statement clarifying the relationship and its scope.
- Manufacturing milestones: verifiable progress from a proposed facility to construction, equipment installation, qualification and production.
- Customer and product details: confirmation of which chips Intel would make, for which Terafab facility, and at what scale.
- Financial contribution: company disclosures that quantify expected revenue, capital needs or the timing of any contribution to Intel’s results.
- Execution: evidence that the facilities can be completed and deliver chips meeting the project’s technical and operational needs.
The cited reporting does not answer those questions. Until more specific information is disclosed, the 14A connection is a potential lead for Intel’s foundry business—not a quantified earnings catalyst.

Intel is the plausible stock behind the headline, based on the reported connection between Terafab and Intel’s 14A process. The available facts support describing a proposed opportunity, not claiming that Musk’s plans will increase Intel’s revenue, earnings or share price. The project’s cost, schedule, production capacity, commercial terms and financial impact have not been established in the cited sources, while Reuters also reported that Tesla and SpaceX AI expected to keep ordering Nvidia chips at scale.
