Estimate the electricity cost with this formula: annual cost = (average wall draw in watts ÷ 1,000) × 8,760 × your electricity price per kWh. Divide the annual figure by 12 for a monthly estimate. At the U.S. residential average of 18.56¢/kWh reported for March 2026, a constant 10 W would cost about $16.25 a year, or $1.35 a month. That is an arithmetic example, not a measured bill for a mini PC streaming YouTube.
How to calculate your mini PC’s electricity cost
Use the machine’s average wall draw while running your actual playlist-streaming setup, not its advertised processor TDP. A plug-in power meter can measure consumption at the outlet; include a display or other peripherals if they will remain powered continuously. Then multiply by your utility’s applicable per-kWh rate.
- Measure or estimate average wall draw in watts for the full operating setup.
- Convert watts to annual energy: watts ÷ 1,000 × 8,760 hours = kWh per year.
- Multiply annual kWh by your electricity price per kWh. Divide the result by 12 for a monthly estimate.
The exact household amount cannot be known without both the setup’s measured draw during the intended workload and the applicable local tariff. Taxes, fixed charges, and time-of-use pricing may also affect a bill; use the rate relevant to your usage when calculating.
Example costs at a dated U.S. electricity rate
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a residential average of 18.56 cents per kWh for March 2026. The EIA marks 2025 and 2026 estimates as preliminary, and this national figure is a reference—not a substitute for your local rate. The costs below are calculated scenarios at that tariff, not measured YouTube-streaming results.

The 6.2 W and 22 W examples match idle and full-CPU-load figures reported for one Beelink EQ14 test setup; they are not measurements of that machine streaming a YouTube playlist. Your encoder, operating system, network devices, peripherals, and workload can change the result.
Why published mini PC power figures differ
Power readings depend on the machine’s configuration, software, and test method, so an idle or generic load number cannot establish continuous streaming draw.

- MiniPCLab’s 2026 EQ14 guide reports 6.2 W idle, 8–10 W under light load, and 18–22 W under full CPU load. Its wall-socket readings followed 10 minutes of stable idle on Proxmox VE 8.x with no virtual machines running, with separate stated load conditions.
- Starry Hope’s 2026 guide reports about 12 W idle and 26 W under load for an EQ14, drawing its load figures from separate published reviews. The difference from the other guide illustrates why a meter on your own setup is more useful than treating one review figure as universal.
- As a separate small-computer comparison, Apple reports 4 W idle and 65 W maximum for the 2024 M4 Mac mini. Apple defines idle as power with only Finder open under default power management and says its wall-source measurements include system and power-supply losses; these are not playlist-streaming results. What a 24/7 YouTube playlist stream requires
For a computer-based stream, YouTube’s encoder instructions say to connect the encoder using YouTube’s stream URL and stream key. Depending on the encoder, select YouTube as the service or enter the URL and key in the encoder’s stream settings. Follow the instructions for the encoder you use and keep the stream key private. Power cost is only one part of keeping a channel live. A local mini PC also depends on its own availability and network connection. YouTube says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” Its help page does not promise automatic archiving for streams lasting 12 hours or longer, so plan archiving separately from multi-day continuity.

Mini PC or hosted service: compare the full cost
A fair comparison includes measured electricity use, local tariff, hardware cost, and the service fee, as well as what happens when a device or connection fails. The EQ14 figures above are examples of published measurements, not proof that a specific model is suitable for every encoder or playlist. Check the ports, network reliability, operating-system requirements, configuration, and actual workload before choosing hardware.
