Choose the Corsair HS80 Wireless if microphone clarity, PC-focused USB wireless use and breathable cloth comfort matter most. Choose the original SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 if you need substantially longer battery life and simultaneous Bluetooth-and-2.4GHz flexibility for moving between a game and a phone. The Nova 7 is the more versatile all-rounder; the HS80 is the microphone specialist.
This comparison is about the original HS80 RGB Wireless and original Arctis Nova 7. Do not confuse either with the HS80 MAX, a special-edition HS80 or the newer Arctis Nova 7 Gen 2. Those are separate products with different specifications.

Quick verdict: HS80 for voice chat, Nova 7 for versatility
The two headsets solve different problems. Corsair builds the HS80 Wireless around a broadcast-oriented microphone, cloth-covered comfort and USB wireless operation controlled through its PC software. SteelSeries gives the original Arctis Nova 7 a 38-hour battery, Bluetooth alongside 2.4GHz wireless and a noise-cancelling microphone designed for more than one device.
| What matters most | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Clear, natural voice chat on a PC | Corsair HS80 Wireless | Its microphone is positioned as “broadcast-grade,” and the microphone is a commonly cited strength of the model. |
| Battery endurance | SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 | SteelSeries lists 38 hours for the original Nova 7, compared with Corsair’s up-to-20-hour HS80 claim. |
| Gaming while staying connected to a phone | SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 | The original Nova 7 documents both Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless. |
| Breathable ear-cup material | Corsair HS80 Wireless | Corsair specifies breathable cloth fabric, memory-foam ear pads and a floating headband. |
| One headset for varied devices | SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 | Its two wireless modes are more flexible than a USB-wireless-only setup, subject to the exact platform and SKU. |
There is no universal sound or comfort winner. Head shape, glasses, hair, clamping preference, EQ settings and the game itself all affect the result. Use the priorities below rather than treating one headset as objectively superior in every category.

What the specifications actually say
The following comparison uses the manufacturers’ current 2026 claims for the original models. “Up to” battery figures are maximum estimates rather than a guaranteed runtime under every volume, lighting, microphone and wireless condition.
| Specification | Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless | SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 |
|---|---|---|
| Battery claim | Up to 20 hours (Corsair, 2026) | 38 hours (SteelSeries, 2026) |
| Wireless documented | USB and wireless operation | Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless |
| Microphone description | Broadcast-grade omnidirectional microphone | AI-powered noise-cancelling microphone |
| Headband and pads | Floating headband, memory-foam ear pads and breathable cloth fabric | ComfortMAX system |
| PC software | Corsair iCUE; product page also claims Dolby Atmos support | SteelSeries software with controls for the headset and its wireless mix |
Specifications do not show how either headset sounds in every game, how every user experiences the clamp or how a microphone performs in a particular room. They identify the design intent and the features you can reasonably expect from the named models.
Microphone: why the HS80 is the safer choice for voice chat
HS80 microphone character
Corsair describes the HS80’s omnidirectional microphone as “Best in class, broadcast-grade microphone for exceptional clarity.” That wording is a product claim, not a guarantee that your voice will sound identical to a studio recording, but it accurately signals the HS80’s priority. SoundGuys also identifies the microphone as a key strength.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a PC player who spends hours in Discord, in-game team chat or streamed commentary, a clear microphone can matter more than a small difference in positional audio. The HS80 is therefore the better starting point when your teammates regularly ask you to repeat yourself, when you speak from a normal desk distance, or when you want a headset microphone rather than a separate USB microphone.
Nova 7 microphone character
SteelSeries lists an “AI-Powered Noise Cancelling Microphone” for the original Nova 7. Noise reduction can help in a room with keyboard clicks, a fan or nearby conversation, but processing also changes the character of a voice. The result depends on software settings, the amount and type of background noise, microphone placement and the generation of the headset.
The Nova 7 is not a poor choice for chat. Its advantage is that it combines a useful microphone feature with broader wireless connectivity. If you only occasionally use voice chat, the Nova 7’s flexibility may outweigh the HS80’s microphone emphasis.
How to choose when microphone quality is decisive
- Choose the HS80 when natural voice clarity is your first buying criterion and your main setup is a PC.
- Choose the Nova 7 when you need noise reduction and Bluetooth as much as you need team-chat audio.
- In either case, position the boom consistently and adjust input gain or noise processing in the relevant software. A strong microphone can still sound clipped or distant when gain and placement are wrong.
Battery life: Nova 7 has a clear numerical advantage
Corsair rates the HS80 RGB Wireless for up to 20 hours. SteelSeries rates the original Arctis Nova 7 for 38 hours. On the published figures, the Nova 7 offers 18 more hours, or nearly twice the HS80’s stated maximum.

An HS80 owner who plays every evening may need to build charging into a routine or keep the charging cable nearby. A Nova 7 owner has more freedom to go several sessions between charges. Actual endurance varies with volume, microphone use, lighting, wireless mode and battery condition, so neither number should be read as a guaranteed runtime at a particular setting.

Do not mix up the original Nova 7 and Nova 7 Gen 2
SteelSeries separately documents the Nova 7 Gen 2. Current 2026 reporting from Tom’s Guide lists up to 54 hours for that newer model. That is not the figure for the original Nova 7 in this comparison. Check the product name, generation label and model number before using a battery claim in a purchase decision.
The same caution applies to Corsair’s HS80 family. HS80, HS80 MAX and special editions are distinct products. A specification from one should not be transferred to another simply because the names look similar.
Wireless connectivity: the Nova 7 is built for mixed-device use
What the Nova 7’s two wireless modes enable
The original Nova 7 documents both Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless. That makes it the stronger option for someone who wants game audio over a low-latency wireless connection while also keeping a phone connected for calls, notifications or music. It is also better suited to a household in which the headset moves between a gaming device and a mobile device.
Before buying for a console, verify the exact platform support and included transmitter for the SKU you are considering. “Arctis Nova 7” listings can differ by generation or platform suffix, and a general Bluetooth statement does not replace checking the console’s own wireless restrictions.
What the HS80’s USB wireless focus means
Corsair documents USB and wireless operation for the HS80. Its design makes the most sense for a PC desk where a USB wireless connection is always available and where iCUE can manage settings. The base HS80 specification does not establish Bluetooth support, so do not assume that it can perform like an HS80 MAX or another special edition.
If your phone is part of your normal listening routine, the HS80 is a less convenient choice unless you are comfortable changing connections or using another device for mobile audio. Buy it for the setup it explicitly supports, not for a feature inferred from a similarly named model.
Comfort and fit: materials matter, but your head decides the result
HS80 construction
Corsair specifies a floating headband, memory-foam ear pads and breathable cloth fabric. The company’s wording is direct: “Breathable cloth fabric lets you listen in comfort.” Cloth can feel less warm than some synthetic coverings during long sessions, while memory foam can distribute pressure around the ear. The floating headband is intended to spread contact across the top of the head rather than concentrating it at one narrow point.

Nova 7 construction
SteelSeries calls its fit system ComfortMAX. That label indicates an adjustable comfort design, but it does not predict a perfect fit for every wearer. Ear size, glasses, hair, preferred clamp and the shape of your head can change the experience substantially.

How to make a practical comfort decision
- Pick the HS80 when breathable cloth and a floating headband appeal to you, especially if your room runs warm.
- Pick the Nova 7 when you prefer its ComfortMAX adjustment system or need a headset that can move between several devices.
- Check the return policy before a long-session purchase if comfort is uncertain. There is no meaningful universal comfort score because fit is personal and neither manufacturer’s material description measures pressure on your head.
Audio, EQ and software features
HS80 with iCUE and Dolby Atmos
The HS80 supports Corsair iCUE, which is the place to manage the headset’s settings on a compatible PC. Corsair’s product page also makes Dolby Atmos claims. Spatial audio can make positioning cues more convincing in some games, but it is not automatically better for every title or every listener. Compare the game’s own surround options with the headset software rather than stacking multiple spatial modes without checking the result.
Nova 7 software and wireless mix
The Nova 7 uses SteelSeries software and documents a Bluetooth/2.4GHz mix. That combination is useful when you want game audio and another source at the same time. EQ and spatial settings should be judged with your games, music and voice-chat habits; a preset that improves footsteps may make music or dialogue less natural.
A sensible setup process
- Install the current software for the exact headset generation and connect the USB wireless device before changing EQ.
- Update firmware if the software offers an update for the headset or transmitter.
- Set a neutral EQ first, then make one change at a time while listening to a familiar game and a voice recording.
- Enable spatial processing only after checking whether the game already applies its own surround mix.
- For the Nova 7, test Bluetooth and 2.4GHz together before relying on the mix during a call or gaming session.
- For the HS80, confirm that iCUE detects the correct headset rather than a similarly named model.
These steps are configuration guidance, not a claim that one software package produces universally superior sound. The best setting is the one that preserves intelligible dialogue, useful positional cues and a comfortable listening level in your games.
Platform and wired-use checks before you buy
Connectivity claims are easy to overgeneralize. A USB wireless headset may work differently on a PC, console, dock or television, and Bluetooth availability on a product family does not prove that every edition has it. Confirm all of the following on the exact listing:
- The platform name and generation match the headset you intend to buy.
- The wireless transmitter or USB adapter is included and uses a connector your device can accept.
- The manufacturer documents support for your console or operating system, not merely for another edition.
- Any wired fallback you require is explicitly listed for that SKU, including the cable and connection type.
- Software controls you need are available on your platform. PC software features may not be available when the headset is connected only to a console.
These checks are especially important when a retailer uses a short title such as “HS80” or “Nova 7” without stating MAX, Gen 2, platform suffix or special edition.

“I mainly play on a PC and talk to friends every night.”
Choose the HS80 Wireless if voice clarity is the problem you are trying to solve. Its broadcast-oriented microphone and PC software focus match that use case. Accept the shorter up-to-20-hour battery and USB-wireless emphasis as part of the trade-off.
“I play for long sessions and hate charging.”
Choose the original Nova 7. Its 38-hour claim is materially higher than the HS80’s 20-hour maximum. If a listing advertises 54 hours, verify that it is the Nova 7 Gen 2 rather than the original model before comparing it.

“I get hot ears during long sessions.”
The HS80’s breathable cloth is the more obvious material choice. Comfort still depends on your head and ear shape, so treat the material advantage as a reason to try it, not a guarantee.
“I need one headset for a console, PC and phone.”
The Nova 7 is the better starting point because of its two documented wireless modes, but do not skip platform verification. The HS80’s USB wireless design is better aligned with a PC-centered setup than with a phone-centered one.
“I care about sound quality more than features.”
Neither specification sheet proves a universal sound winner. Compare EQ controls, spatial-audio support, the game’s own audio options and your preferred tonal balance. If you cannot test both, choose based on the microphone, battery and connection priorities that will affect every session.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Published features cannot answer every question a buyer may have. They do not establish a controlled head-to-head comfort score, a single best EQ for all games, a guaranteed microphone result in every room or a universal console experience for every regional SKU. They also do not justify transferring battery numbers between original and Gen 2 products.
For a fair decision, separate measurable claims from personal preferences:
| More measurable from the published specifications | Requires your own preference or setup |
|---|---|
| HS80 up-to-20-hour battery claim | Whether cloth feels cooler on your ears |
| Nova 7 38-hour battery claim | Whether the microphone processing sounds natural to teammates |
| Nova 7 Bluetooth and 2.4GHz documentation | Whether simultaneous audio sources are useful to you |
| HS80 microphone and material descriptions | Which EQ or spatial mode sounds best in your games |
Buying checklist and generation-proofing
- Write down your primary device: PC, console, phone or a combination.
- Decide whether Bluetooth is essential. If it is, the original Nova 7 has the documented advantage; do not assume it for the base HS80.
- Set a minimum acceptable battery life. The published figures are 20 hours for HS80 and 38 hours for the original Nova 7.
- Choose your microphone priority. Select HS80 for a microphone-first PC setup; select Nova 7 when noise processing and multi-device wireless matter more.
- Check the full product name for HS80 MAX, special edition or Nova 7 Gen 2 before comparing specifications.
- Verify the platform, transmitter, software support and any wired fallback for the exact SKU.
- Check the retailer’s return terms if fit is uncertain, because comfort cannot be determined from a product name alone.
Final recommendation
The Corsair HS80 Wireless is the better headset for a PC-focused player who values a strong voice-chat microphone and breathable cloth comfort above battery life and Bluetooth. Its up-to-20-hour rating and USB wireless focus are reasonable trade-offs when those are your priorities.
The original SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 is the better all-rounder. Its 38-hour battery and documented Bluetooth plus 2.4GHz wireless make it the more practical choice for long sessions, phone audio and changing devices. Choose it unless the HS80’s microphone-first design directly addresses your main need.
