Coolpad is preparing a wide-screen Android phone for China at a reported CNY 999 (about $150), while Huawei’s Pura X View is reported at CNY 5,999 (about $895–$900). The cheaper phone’s more consequential feature is DroiClaw 3, an Android-based system designed to let an AI agent coordinate multi-step work across apps.
That combination is still a proposal, not a proven product. Reports describe a 6.3-inch 720p LCD, a MediaTek Helio G99 and extensive privacy safeguards, but Coolpad has not published a complete specification sheet and no independent auditor has verified DroiClaw 3’s security or agent performance.

What Coolpad is actually launching
MemeBurn reported that the Coolpad wide-screen Android phone is expected to go on sale in China in October 2026 for CNY 999, approximately $150. Gizmochina gave the same expected China price and timing. Neither report confirms a global launch, overseas availability or a retail listing outside China.

The price gap is the headline: CNY 999 is roughly one-sixth of CNY 5,999. The comparison is not a like-for-like performance claim. Huawei’s display is reported as a 120Hz OLED, while Coolpad’s panel is a lower-resolution 720p LCD, and the Huawei processor is not identified in the available coverage.
What the 16:10 shape changes
Where the wider screen helps
- Video: A 16:10 panel can show more content at once than a tall phone when viewing suitably formatted video.
- Reading: Web pages, documents and comics can feel closer to a small tablet layout.
- Photos: The broader canvas gives images and editing controls more horizontal room.
- Split screen: Two apps can be placed side by side with less severe width reduction than on many tall phones.
Where it can be awkward
- One-handed typing: The extra width can make the far side of the keyboard harder to reach.
- Pockets and grips: A broad chassis may be less comfortable in tight pockets or small hands.
- Android compatibility: Apps designed around tall displays may leave unused space, force awkward layouts or behave unpredictably until developers account for the aspect ratio.
The 16:10 format is therefore a usability choice rather than a simple upgrade. Buyers who mainly watch, read or multitask may benefit; people who type one-handed or depend on tightly optimized phone layouts may not.

Why DroiClaw 3 is the real experiment
DroiClaw 3 is positioned as an AI-native system rather than a chatbot floating above ordinary Android. Its proposed agent can coordinate a sequence of actions across apps, such as moving information from one application to another and completing a task that would normally require repeated manual steps.

The design reportedly divides work between the phone and cloud services. In principle, local execution can reduce latency and keep some operations on the device, while cloud processing can handle tasks that require larger models. The reports do not establish which actions are always local, what data leaves the phone, how failures are recovered or whether users can force local-only operation.

MCP and AppFunctions
DroiClaw 3 is described as using MCP concepts and AppFunctions-style interfaces to expose actions that an agent can call. If implemented consistently, those interfaces could let an agent use structured functions instead of relying only on screen taps. The published coverage does not yet show a complete list of supported apps, permission prompts, confirmation rules or success rates.
What would make it useful
A useful agent must understand the user’s goal, select the right app actions, preserve context between steps and stop safely when an action is ambiguous or irreversible. A phone that merely launches apps or generates text would not meet that standard. No independent testing has established how DroiClaw 3 performs on those criteria.

Hardware evidence and missing specifications
MemeBurn said the Helio G99 identification came from leaked hands-on footage. The chip is a budget 6nm processor first appearing in 2022, according to that report. Gizmochina also characterized the processor information as leaked. Coolpad has not published every specification, so the reports do not support firm conclusions about battery life, cameras, memory, storage, connectivity or other unannounced components.
The 720p resolution on a 6.3-inch panel will be less dense than the Pura X View’s reported OLED, but display quality also depends on brightness, calibration, refresh behavior and software scaling—details not established in the available reports.
Privacy and security: claims without an audit
Droi’s stated privacy design includes services written in Rust, isolated containers, anonymization, explicit permissions and SHA-256 checks for installed skills. These are architectural claims, not independent findings. Rust can reduce some classes of memory-safety errors; containers and permissions can limit access when correctly implemented; anonymization and hash checks are only as strong as their surrounding design and key-management practices.
Both MemeBurn and Gizmochina said independent testing or auditing is still needed. Until such work is published, users should treat the agent as an unverified system that may handle sensitive messages, files, accounts and cross-app actions.
What to verify before buying
- Confirm that the seller is offering the China model and check whether the interface, network bands and warranty work in your country.
- Look for Coolpad’s final specification sheet rather than relying on the leaked Helio G99 identification.
- Check which apps DroiClaw 3 can control and whether every consequential action requires confirmation.
- Read the data-processing settings to determine what runs locally, what is sent to the cloud and how history can be deleted.
- Wait for independent security and reliability testing if you plan to use the agent with financial, work or private accounts.
Bottom line
At a reported CNY 999, Coolpad’s phone could make a wide Android format and cross-app AI experimentation accessible at a fraction of Huawei’s Pura X View price. The trade-offs are a 720p LCD, budget-class hardware, uncertain app compatibility and no confirmed global availability. DroiClaw 3 is the feature to watch, but its multi-step execution and privacy protections remain claims until the phone ships and independent testers can verify them.
