The strongest starting point for the Mortal Flames update is Rajapendra Cookie of Mortality, Mogra Cookie and Burning Spice Cookie, then a fourth Cookie chosen to satisfy the raid’s element rule without leaving you helpless after the boss transforms. There is no single team that wins every stage: Episode 11 and Episode 12 reward the update’s featured Cookies, while the Rajapendra of Mortality Raid changes its resistance according to your attacks. Build around Rajapendra’s pressure, Mogra’s healing and cleansing, and deliberate element timing rather than simply stacking your highest power ratings.
Mortal Flames, also called Eternal Change version 7.9, launched on September 23, 2026. Episode 11 launched first; Episode 12, “A Sun That Shines Eternal,” arrived in the October 7 update. The guide below explains the update’s mechanics, practical team choices, raid scoring rules, and the exact moments when Seed of Change should be used.

What the Mortal Flames update adds
The update follows Golden Cheese Cookie as the story explores Burning Spice Cookie’s past in the Spice Civilization. Episode 11, “Flames that Devour the Ages,” does not require you to clear earlier episodes. Episode 12, “A Sun That Shines Eternal,” is now available through the October 7 update.

Those systems make the update less about one permanent “best” lineup and more about matching a team to the mode, season and boss phase.
The best general-purpose team core
For players who want one practical lineup to develop first, use Rajapendra Cookie of Mortality + Mogra Cookie + Burning Spice Cookie, then add one damage or utility Cookie that fits the required element and the stage’s survivability needs. This trio is the update’s most coherent core because each member receives a direct reason to be present.

Do not treat the fourth slot as automatic. In a story stage, another damage dealer may finish waves before the mechanics become dangerous. In the raid, the same slot may need to complete an element group, provide a second element for the transformation phase, or add enough sustain to prevent a low score caused by an early defeat.

Mogra is not merely a healer. Bring her whenever the team is losing to Doomfire’s continuous damage, Flame debuffs, or the need to reset the Seed of Change. Her value is especially high when a slightly slower clear produces a much higher survival time and battle score. If a stage is already safe and the boss dies before her utility matters, a second damage dealer can be reasonable; that is a clear-speed decision, not proof that Mogra is weak.
How Rajapendra Cookie of Mortality works
Rajapendra is a front-line pressure Cookie whose kit combines damage and party support. At battle start, Spice of Mortality targets the front Cookie with the highest maximum HP. The effect transfers when that target is defeated, so the opening target can determine which front-line threat remains marked later in the fight.
Rampage and Fire Centipede
Rajapendra begins a Rampage, damages nearby enemies and grants allies Rampaging Power. The summoned Fire Centipede deals area damage, applies Burn and continuous damage, and places Brand of Mortality. Brand of Mortality can affect even Cookies that cannot be targeted normally, so hiding or untargetability does not automatically remove the pressure.

The practical consequence is that Rajapendra works best when the rest of the team keeps enemies grouped or occupied long enough for the Fire Centipede’s area effects to matter. Protect Rajapendra through the opening rotation; losing the front Cookie before the first meaningful Rampage wastes both damage and the ally buff.
What to watch in a Rajapendra build
- Use a front-line setup that survives the first enemy burst; Rajapendra’s value comes from repeated casts, not a single opening hit.
- Pair his area pressure with a team that can exploit Burn or keep targets from quickly escaping the damage zone.
- In the raid, avoid assuming his element is always safe. The boss will later resist the element that supplied the most attacks.
What Mogra Cookie contributes
Mogra is an Epic Healing Rear Cookie with several jobs that become more important as difficulty rises. Basic attacks heal allies and build Story Records. Once enough records are available, Storytelling heals allies over time, grants HP Shields and DMG Resist, stuns enemies, and spreads a Story whose effects scale with the number of consumed stacks.
Mogra gives Burning Spice Cookie a stronger DMG Resist buff than other allies. At maximum Story stacks, the Story also grants an All-type CRIT DMG buff. That creates a useful choice: spend stacks immediately for emergency sustain and control, or build toward the maximum-stack offensive effect when the team can safely wait.
Mogra’s dispel timing
Doomfire deals continuous damage and applies an ATK-weakening debuff. Mogra can dispel it. Save her relevant cast for the point at which Doomfire’s damage or attack reduction would otherwise disrupt the next damage rotation; using every support effect on cooldown can leave the team without an answer when the debuff matters most.
Building a Rajapendra of Mortality Raid team
The raid is time-limited and divided into four seasons. Seasons 1–3 restrict which Cookies can be selected by element. Season 4 allows all elements, while Mogra is allowed in every season. Ranking uses the sum of your three highest battle scores, with difficulty multipliers applied, so a reliable high score in three attempts is more valuable than one spectacular run surrounded by failed entries.

Using skills from at least three Cookies of the same element grants 15% Element-type ATK per Cookie. The bonus rewards concentration, but the boss creates a counter-pressure: after transforming, it resists the element that dealt the most attacks and becomes vulnerable to other elements.

This means the ideal raid lineup usually has a planned first phase and a planned post-transformation phase:
- Choose at least three same-element Cookies when that resonance produces a meaningful 15% ATK gain.
- Track which element is supplying the most attacks rather than only counting the team’s labels.
- Prepare a second damage element, a delayed burst, or a cast-timing plan for the transformation.
- Stop feeding the resisted element after the boss changes form unless survival or a required mechanic makes that unavoidable.

Transformation timing and difficulty
The boss transforms once in Normal and twice in Hard. Every transformation is a checkpoint to reassess resistance, not merely a visual phase change. Record which element produced the most attacks immediately before the change, then alter your next casts or team assignment so the vulnerable element receives the burst.
Because the ranking system sums three scores, test for consistency. A team that survives the full timer with controlled damage can beat a fragile burst team if the latter loses a Cookie before its score is recorded.
Episode 11: handling Flame of Annihilation
Beginning at “Faint Scent of Jasmine,” enemies periodically gain stacking Flame of Annihilation buffs that increase their ATK SPD. When enemies attack, they consume a stack to inflict Max HP and DMG Dealt debuffs. The longer stacks remain available, the more dangerous the next enemy attack becomes.
The update gives its featured Cookies special treatment: Burning Spice Cookie and Rajapendra Cookie gain ATK Up instead of receiving the episode’s ordinary offensive debuff, while Mogra gains greatly increased ATK and DMG Dampening. These bonuses are why the three-Cookie core is particularly efficient in this episode.
Step-by-step approach for Episode 11
- Open with survival in mind. Keep Mogra’s healing and Story Records available for the first dangerous stack cycle rather than spending every effect immediately.
- Watch enemy stacks. The attack that consumes a stack is the moment the Max HP and DMG Dealt penalties are applied.
- Use Seed of Change when the team is debuffed. It blooms to cleanse Flame of Annihilation from allies and restore HP.
- Charge the Seed deliberately. It gains charge whenever every stack on an enemy expires or an enemy becomes Incapacitated; Mogra significantly increases the charge rate.
- Resume damage after cleansing. Do not fire the Seed early if the party is healthy and the next stack expiration will charge it naturally.
Episode 12: managing Flame of Mortality
Beginning at “The Pulse of Change,” enemies periodically gain stacking Flame of Mortality buffs that increase DMG Dampening. Their attacks consume stacks to reduce the target’s Max HP and damage dealt and add Burn damage. When all stacks are consumed, enemies recover HP, so allowing the cycle to resolve unchecked can both weaken your team and prolong the battle.

Burning Spice Cookie and Rajapendra again gain ATK Up instead of the ordinary debuff, while Mogra gains greatly increased ATK and DMG Dampening. Episode 12 therefore preserves the same synergy core but makes cleansing and timing more important because of the Max HP reduction, Burn and enemy recovery.

Episode 12 procedure
- Identify the first Flame of Mortality cycle. Note when stacks appear and which enemy is most likely to consume them.
- Maintain Mogra’s support rotation. Shields, healing and DMG Resist are more valuable before Max HP reduction has compounded.
- Prevent a bad all-stack resolution. Focus damage and control on the enemy whose final stack would trigger recovery at the worst time.
- Use Seed of Change for both debuff families. In Episode 12 it cleanses Flame of Mortality and Flame of Annihilation, then restores HP.
- Exploit Mogra’s accelerated charge. Her presence significantly increases the Seed’s charge rate after stacks expire or enemies become Incapacitated.
Seed of Change: when and how to use it
Seed of Change is the update’s answer to the two Flame systems. It blooms to cleanse Flame of Annihilation and Flame of Mortality debuffs from allies and restore their HP. It charges when every stack on an enemy expires or when an enemy becomes Incapacitated, and Mogra greatly accelerates that charge.
Think of the Seed as a planned recovery window rather than a button to press on cooldown. Use it when a cleanse removes multiple harmful effects at once, when Max HP reduction threatens a defeat, or immediately after a stack cycle has charged it and the next enemy attack would otherwise land on a weakened team.
Seed timing checklist
- Good timing: several allies carry Flame debuffs, Burn or Max HP reduction; the enemy stack cycle has just completed; Mogra’s accelerated charge has made the Seed available before the next attack.
- Early timing: useful only when the next stack cycle would kill or permanently weaken a Cookie.
- Bad timing: the party is healthy, no relevant debuff is present, and the enemy is about to become Incapacitated and charge the Seed naturally.
Toppings Sets and build planning
Version 7.9 introduced Toppings Sets, Mirror Toppings and Resonant Toppings. Pride-Filled Toppings are broadly equipable by eligible rarities. Cycle-Burning Toppings are restricted at launch to Rajapendra, Mogra and Burning Spice Cookie, making them the most directly relevant set for the update’s featured trio.
The patch reference lists Raspberry, Walnut, Peanut, Apple Jelly, Chocolate, Almond, Hazelnut, Candy and Kiwi variants for both sets. Choose the variant according to the job your Cookie must perform rather than equipping a set solely because it is new:

- For Mogra, favor the setup that preserves frequent support casts and keeps healing, shields, DMG Resist and Seed acceleration available.
- For Burning Spice, use the Cycle-Burning eligibility and Episode 11/12 ATK Up interaction as part of a damage plan, while still respecting the team’s survival threshold.
Mirror and Resonant Toppings expand the available tuning options, but the correct choice still depends on the stage. A topping combination that wins a short story fight can be inferior in a raid where the boss transforms and the team must survive two additional phases.

Common failure points and fixes
The boss suddenly takes little damage
You probably continued attacking with the element that dealt the most hits before the transformation. Check the boss’s new resistance, shift casts to another element, and reserve burst for the vulnerable phase.
The team dies while the damage looks sufficient
Replace one damage slot with Mogra, delay her Storytelling until the first dangerous stack cycle, and use Seed of Change after the Flame debuffs have accumulated. In the raid, surviving longer can improve the battle score more than adding a narrow burst upgrade.
Seed of Change feels too slow
Bring Mogra and allow enemy stacks to expire or enemies to become Incapacitated so the charge conditions can occur. Do not spend the Seed while the party is healthy if a natural charge event is imminent.
A high-power team performs poorly in the raid
Power rating does not account for the raid’s element restrictions, transformation resistance or three-score ranking system. Rebuild around the season’s legal Cookies, activate the same-element bonus when appropriate, and test whether the lineup can produce three dependable scores instead of one peak run.
A practical battle plan
- Choose the mode first. Story stages reward the featured synergy; raid seasons add element restrictions and transformation planning.
- Lock the core. Start with Rajapendra, Mogra and Burning Spice when they are available and legal.
- Assign the fourth slot by problem. Select damage for a safe clear, another element for a transformation pivot, or utility for Doomfire and survivability.
- Map the first dangerous mechanic. Identify Flame stacks in the episode or the boss’s first transformation in the raid.
- Save support for the mechanic. Mogra’s Storytelling, dispel and Seed should answer a known threat rather than being wasted before it appears.
- Review the run by phase. If damage falls after a transformation, change element timing; if the team dies, change sustain or Seed timing before chasing more offense.
The Mortal Flames update rewards teams that treat mechanics as part of damage. Rajapendra supplies the pressure, Burning Spice converts the episode bonuses into offense, and Mogra turns dangerous debuff cycles into recoverable phases. In the raid, build enough same-element power to earn the 15% resonance, then plan the resistance change instead of letting it decide the fight for you.
