Use Puppeteer’s page.pdf() to save a webpage as a PDF, and ensure Chromium can load a Kannada-capable font such as Noto Sans Kannada before printing. Puppeteer waits for fonts by default, but that cannot help if the font is missing, blocked, or not selected. Check the finished PDF for Kannada glyphs, shaping, clipping, and page breaks.
What you need
- Node.js and Puppeteer with its compatible Chromium browser installed.
- The URL of the Kannada webpage.
- A Kannada-capable font available to Chromium, either through the page’s CSS and a reachable font file or through the browser environment.
The Noto Fonts project includes a Noto Kannada repository with font sources and related project materials. Its existence does not mean a particular font package is installed in your runtime or that a webpage uses it. Confirm availability in the environment where Puppeteer runs.

Generate the PDF with Puppeteer
Install Puppeteer in your project if it is not already installed. Its documented PDF method is Page.pdf(); the guide’s example navigates to a page and saves the resulting file. See the Puppeteer PDF generation guide.

})();Replace the example URL with the target page. This is a general pattern, not a tested recipe for a particular site. networkidle2 waits for network activity to settle, but pages that load content later may need a site-specific readiness condition before printing.

Page.pdf() waits for fonts by default. The PDFOptions API reference documents waitForFonts as waiting for document.fonts.ready. Setting it explicitly, as above, makes that dependency visible in the script. If the page is running in the background, the font wait may require bringing it to the foreground.
Make sure the page can use a Kannada font
For a page or template you control, declare a font family and provide a working font file URL. Adjust the family name and path to match the actual font asset you serve:

}A font-family declaration does not install a font. Chromium must be able to fetch the file or find the family in its environment, and the page must actually select that family for the Kannada text. On third-party pages, you may not be able to change the CSS; inspect the rendered PDF and the page’s font-loading behavior instead of assuming Noto is in use.

Choose print styling, paper size, and margins
Puppeteer prints using the CSS print media type by default, so a PDF can differ from the screen view. To use screen styles, call await page.emulateMediaType('screen') before page.pdf(). Decide which rendering is appropriate for the page rather than expecting print output to match the browser window automatically.
format: 'A4'selects A4 paper. When exact colors matter, the Puppeteer API reference points to CSS -webkit-print-color-adjust; verify the resulting PDF because print color handling can change how colors appear.
Verify the saved PDF
Open the actual output file, not only the page in Chromium. Check representative Kannada text across the document and inspect the layout at page boundaries.

- Confirm Kannada characters appear rather than empty boxes or missing-glyph symbols.
- Check that vowel signs and other marks appear correctly positioned and shaped.
- Look for text clipped at the page edge, overlapping content, or unexpected line wrapping.
- Review page breaks, headers, footers, and background colors against the intended print or screen layout.
The font, page CSS, browser environment, and target site all affect the result. Puppeteer’s documentation and the Noto Kannada project do not guarantee identical rendering for every page or deployment.

Troubleshoot common problems
Kannada characters show as boxes or are missing
Chromium may not have a suitable font, may fail to fetch the declared font file, or may be using a different family than expected. Check the font URL and browser access to it, confirm the family is available in the runtime, and ensure the page applies it to the Kannada text. Then regenerate and inspect the PDF.
The PDF uses a fallback font despite the CSS declaration
A family name in CSS alone does not provide font data. Make the font file reachable or install the family in the browser environment. If the font is remotely loaded, wait until the page’s fonts are ready before generating the PDF.

Content is absent or incomplete
Navigation completion does not necessarily mean all site content has appeared. A page can populate content after navigation, so wait for a selector or another site-specific readiness condition before calling page.pdf(). Do not treat networkidle2 as proof that every application has finished rendering.
PDF layout differs from the browser view
PDF generation uses print CSS by default. Review the page’s print rules, or call page.emulateMediaType('screen') before printing if screen styling is what you need. Also check the selected paper size, margins, CSS @page rules, and scaling.
Backgrounds or colors look wrong
Background printing is off by default; enable printBackground when those graphics are needed. For exact colors, apply -webkit-print-color-adjust in CSS and inspect the resulting PDF.
