How The Last Taxi works
Walkthroughs describe the same basic loop for each taxi: approach a cab, interact with it to enter a Threshold, answer the phone, and complete the taxi puzzle before returning to Manhattan. PowerPyx says the taxi becomes marked on the map when you approach it and that the encounters can be completed in any order; your available routes may still depend on game progress. AllThingsHow also describes a payphone and three taxi-selection rounds, with a correct choice advancing the sequence.

The walkthroughs name Downtown, Central, Evacuation Zone, West Incursion or West Excursion Zone, The Park, Underpass, and Unknown. GamesRadar+ says nearby taxis appear on the map. Use the marker rather than relying solely on a landmark: route descriptions are incomplete or inconsistent, and the west-zone name varies between guides.

How to solve the taxi puzzles
There is not one confirmed sequence that applies to every encounter. The guides describe clues involving rooftop fare signs, taxi lights, flashing rhythms, streetlights, and shadows. Look at the clue in the current Threshold and compare it with the available cars instead of assuming a particular region always uses the same puzzle.

Read the clue before choosing
- Check roof signs and lights when the encounter draws attention to them.
- Watch for a flashing order or a car that flashes twice, out of sequence, or not at all.
- Inspect nearby streetlights and shadows if the scene points to an environmental clue.
PowerPyx gives examples for Downtown, Central, and Evacuation Zone, but the clue-to-region mapping is not consistent across guide descriptions. Treat those examples as prompts for what to inspect, not a universal answer key.
If a choice is wrong
AllThingsHow says an incorrect selection leaves the player in place, and GamesRadar+ reports that wrong choices do not appear to carry a penalty. If your game behaves differently, use its on-screen feedback and reassess the clue before trying again.
What completing the quest gives you
PowerPyx lists the Untapped Coffee Cup Artifact as the reward and says completing the side story counts toward the Threshold Researcher trophy or achievement. Once all seven taxis are done, the walkthroughs describe a final phone call as the completion step.
Why route details may not match exactly
The available descriptions are third-party walkthroughs rather than an official Remedy guide. They differ on the west region’s name, give limited directions for The Park, Underpass, and Unknown, and do not establish that every puzzle clue is fixed to one region. Map markers and the clues visible in your current encounter are the most useful checks when a walkthrough’s landmark or solution does not line up.
