World Rowing’s 2023 video listing describes a look back at how Empacher racing shells were once built—not a verified walkthrough of the company’s present-day factory process. For today’s construction details, Empacher’s current racing-single specification is the relevant source: it describes a vacuum-made epoxy sandwich shell with carbon, Kevlar or fine carbon fabric, and a Nomex honeycomb core.

World Rowing published “Construction of Racing Shells – Empacher” on May 15, 2023. Its description says, “Learn how Empacher shells were once constructed!” and notes that Empacher was celebrating 100 years of boat building that year. Empacher’s homepage says the company has produced rowing shells since 1923.

The wording frames the video as historical. The available listing does not establish its exact scenes, tools, sequence of factory steps, or narration, so it should not be treated as a scene-by-scene account of current production. How Empacher describes its current racing-single construction
Empacher’s current racing-single product page says shells and decks are made by a vacuum process using sandwich construction with epoxy resin. For the single’s shell layers, the manufacturer specifies carbon fiber on the outside, Kevlar fiber or fine carbon fabric on the inside, and a Nomex honeycomb sandwich core. These are manufacturer-published construction details, not an independent inspection of a boat or production line.

The published specification distinguishes the shell’s honeycomb core from the foam cores it lists for the seat deck and bulkheads, as well as the high-strength foam core at the gunwale.
Sizes, weight, and moulds vary across the racing-single range
Empacher lists its racing single at 14 kg and presents multiple mould families for different rower-weight bands. Across the displayed range, the manufacturer’s specifications span 45–120 kg in rower weight, 7.08–8.37 m in overall length, and 0.26–0.28 m in waterline breadth. The page does not state a publication year for these figures; they are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent measurements.

There is no single universal set of dimensions for an Empacher racing single. To assess fit, use the particular mould’s rower-weight band and listed dimensions rather than applying the endpoints of the entire range to every boat.

When comparing listed boats, check the mould and rower-weight band, overall length, waterline breadth, and selected rigging and component configuration. The published information does not establish that a particular material or option makes one model faster, stronger, stiffer, or better value than another.

The video listing supplies historical framing, while Empacher’s product page supplies current stated construction and model specifications. Neither, as available here, verifies a current factory sequence or supports performance comparisons based on speed, durability, stiffness, or value.
