To make a golem in Conan Exiles, unlock Golem Shaping in Age of Sorcery Chapter 3 by speaking with Master Carver Huang. Huang teaches the free Golem Constructor knowledge, which unlocks the Golem Workbench and Guardian Assembly Station. Craft body parts and weapon arms at the Workbench, place a head, torso, two legs and two arms in the Assembly Station, then perform its short activation ritual. Material tier, coatings and weapon arms determine whether the follower is better for fighting, harvesting plants, mining or a combination of jobs.

What golem creation actually requires
Golem creation is a two-station process rather than a single recipe. The Golem Workbench produces the pieces, coatings and weapon arms. The Guardian Assembly Station accepts those pieces, assembles the construct and animates it as a follower. Building only one station will not let you finish a golem.

You do not discover Golem Shaping by randomly crafting parts first; you must learn the prerequisite knowledge from Master Carver Huang. Once Huang has taught Golem Constructor, the two station recipes become available.
- Master Carver Huang: Mek-Kamoses’s Spire in the Exiled Lands, or the Camp of the Castaways on the Isle of Siptah.
- Knowledge: Golem Constructor, taught by speaking with Huang.
- Workbench: makes heads, torsos, legs, arms, coatings and weapon arms.
- Assembly Station: combines the selected parts and performs the animation ritual.
- Normal body layout: one head, one torso, two legs and two arms.
A construct can animate without every normal slot filled, but an incomplete body is less useful, particularly in combat. A one-armed setup has a specific restriction: if one arm is fitted, a second arm is required before the station will animate the golem. A completely armless or headless construct can still animate, but it gives up important utility; the head contributes health, and arms determine attacks or gathering behavior.

Find Master Carver Huang and unlock Golem Constructor
Exiled Lands location
Travel to Mek-Kamoses’s Spire in the Exiled Lands and speak with Master Carver Huang. The interaction teaches Golem Constructor at no cost. After the conversation, check the knowledge and crafting menus rather than expecting a physical quest item; the unlock is a learned recipe package.
Isle of Siptah location
On the Isle of Siptah, Huang is at the Camp of the Castaways. The result is the same: speak to him, learn Golem Constructor, and then use a Construction Hammer to place the stations. The location changes with the map, but the station recipes and assembly process do not.
If the knowledge does not appear
- Confirm that you are playing the Age of Sorcery Chapter 3 content and that your character can access Huang’s interaction.
- Speak to Huang directly; merely visiting his location does not teach the knowledge.
- After learning it, reopen the knowledge and crafting interfaces so the newly available stations and component branches refresh.
- On a server with customized progression, check whether the administrator has altered knowledge access or recipe availability.
Build the two required stations
Both stations are placed with a Construction Hammer. The quantities below are the explicit station recipe requirements. They are recipe costs, not a measured estimate of how long mining, chopping or smelting will take.
| Station | Brick | Iron Bar | Wood |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guardian Assembly Station | 100 | 100 | — |
| Golem Workbench | 100 | 50 | 300 |
Because you need both stations, the combined station recipes consume 200 Brick, 150 Iron Bar and 300 Wood. The Assembly Station is the activation point, while the Workbench is where nearly all customization happens. Place them close enough to use comfortably, but leave room around the Assembly Station for its interaction and around the Workbench for storage and movement.
Guardian Assembly Station recipe
With the Construction Hammer equipped, select the Guardian Assembly Station and provide 100 Brick and 100 Iron Bar. Place it on a suitable foundation or floor area. This station is the final destination for the body parts and contains the short ritual that animates the finished construct.
Golem Workbench recipe
Craft the Golem Workbench from 100 Brick, 50 Iron Bar and 300 Wood. Use it to manufacture the head, torso, legs, arms, coatings and weapon arms needed for your chosen role. If the Workbench appears empty, the usual cause is missing knowledge rather than a missing physical ingredient; unlock the relevant component recipes in the Sorcery knowledge tree first.

Unlock the component recipes before gathering everything
Learning Golem Constructor makes the stations possible, but it does not automatically give every head, coating, tool or weapon-arm recipe. Open the Sorcery knowledge tree and unlock the component branches that match the build you intend to make.
- Stone Guardian Shaper: progression for basic stone body components.
- Stone Guardian Tools: stone-oriented tools and related utility parts.
- Brimstone Guardian Coating: a specialized coating option.
- Tar Guardian Coating: another specialized coating option.
- Iron Guardian Shaper: progression for iron body components.
- Iron Guardian Tools: iron-oriented tool parts.
- Crystalline Guardian Tools: crystalline or blood-crystal progression for advanced tool parts.
The exact component cost and crafting time depend on the individual recipe. The available information establishes the progression names and the station requirements, but does not establish a universal resource total or time for every head, torso, leg, arm, coating and weapon arm. Plan your gathering after deciding the role and material tier instead of unlocking every branch blindly.
Craft the body and weapon parts at the Golem Workbench
Make the six body slots
A conventional complete golem uses six pieces: one head, one torso, two legs and two arms. Craft each piece at the Workbench. The two legs can be identical or selected from different recipes if the game allows the combination you are pursuing; what matters for the standard arrangement is that both leg slots are filled. The same principle applies to the arms, except that an equipped weapon arm counts as an arm and still requires a second arm.
The head is not cosmetic only. It contributes to the golem’s health, so omitting it may leave a construct with less staying power even if the Assembly Station accepts the rest of the arrangement. The torso and legs complete the body structure, while the arms supply attacks, tools or weapon behavior.
Make a weapon arm
Weapon arms are produced by fusing a weapon with an empty arm. First craft or obtain the weapon you want to use, then combine it with an empty arm at the Golem Workbench using the applicable recipe. This creates a specialized arm that can be placed in one of the two arm positions at the Assembly Station.
Do not bring only one arm to the station and expect a one-handed combat follower. If one arm is fitted, the golem needs a second arm before activation. Use a second weapon arm, a tool arm or another valid arm part according to the job you want the follower to perform.
Assemble and animate the golem
- Open the Guardian Assembly Station. Interact with the station you crafted after all selected components are ready.
- Insert one head. This supplies the head slot and its health contribution.
- Insert one torso. The torso is the central body component.
- Insert two legs. Fill both leg positions for the standard complete build.
- Insert two arms. A weapon arm occupies one arm position; add a second valid arm so the one-arm restriction is not triggered.
- Review the combination. Check that the materials, coatings and weapon choices match the job. If a required slot is rejected, remove the part and verify that it is a compatible golem component rather than a normal player weapon or armor piece.
- Activate the construct. Use the station’s short ritual or activation interaction. The assembled construct animates and becomes a follower.
Incomplete builds can animate, so you may see a result even when the arrangement is not the normal six-part layout. Treat that as an experimental option rather than the default. A headless or armless golem may be functional, but it sacrifices health or useful attacks. A one-armed build is the exception that cannot be activated until a second arm is supplied.
Choose materials by role, not by a single “best” recipe
There is no universally best golem because the useful attributes change with the task. Stone is the basic material, while blood crystal supports more powerful parts. Iron sits between those choices in the documented progression, and crystalline or blood-crystal tools provide an advanced path for specialized utility. The exact performance difference in damage, durability or harvesting speed is not established by the available authoritative material, so do not treat a tier name as a guaranteed percentage increase.

|---|---|---|
| Stone | Basic golem material and entry progression | Early construction, general-purpose experiments and inexpensive replacement parts |
| Iron | More advanced shaper and tool progression | When you want a sturdier or more specialized build than basic stone and have unlocked Iron Guardian recipes |
| Crystalline or blood crystal | Advanced material path; blood crystal supports more powerful parts | High-end specialized parts and crystalline tool choices after the relevant Sorcery unlocks |
Think of the material decision as a budget and purpose decision. A gathering golem may not need your rarest combat-oriented parts if its job is to remain near a base and collect resources. Conversely, a frontline follower may justify advanced parts even when they take longer or cost more to make. Since component recipe costs are not listed as one universal total, compare the material requirement shown in your own unlocked recipes before committing rare resources.
Match weapon arms and coatings to the job
Plant gathering
Funcom’s guidance points to scythes or sickles for gathering plants. Use one as the weapon in a weapon arm, then provide a second compatible arm. This setup is intended for vegetation-focused work rather than general combat. Keep the head and torso in place even on a harvesting build so the follower retains the health contribution and complete body layout.
Mineral gathering
For minerals, the documented recommendation is a maul. Fuse the maul with an empty arm at the Workbench, place the resulting weapon arm in the Assembly Station, and fill the other arm slot. This is the focused choice when the golem’s main assignment is breaking mineral deposits.
Mixed gathering and fighting
An axe is the suggested compromise for a mixture of gathering and fighting. It does not make the follower universally optimal; it gives you a single weapon direction that supports both activities. A mixed build is useful when you do not want separate followers for every task, but it necessarily trades specialization for flexibility.
Combat-focused builds
For combat, prioritize a complete body, a head for its health contribution, two functional arms and a coating or weapon choice suited to the encounters you expect. Specialized coatings such as Brimstone Guardian Coating and Tar Guardian Coating are learned through the Sorcery progression and can change combat behavior. The available authoritative material does not publish a damage percentage, health value or win rate for any combination, so compare builds by their intended behavior rather than an invented numerical ranking.
Coatings and the mixed-role decision
Coatings are another layer of customization rather than a replacement for the body parts. Unlock the coating recipe, craft it at the Workbench, and select it alongside the body and weapon components before activation. If a coating consumes rare materials, reserve it for a role that benefits from its behavior; do not assume that adding every coating produces a stronger result in every situation.

- Check the Sorcery tree. Unlock the specific Stone, Iron, coating or Crystalline Guardian knowledge that contains the part you want. The Workbench only lists recipes your character has learned.
- Verify the station. Make sure you are interacting with the Golem Workbench, not the Guardian Assembly Station. The Assembly Station combines parts; it is not the component crafting bench.
- Refresh the interface. Close and reopen the Workbench after learning a recipe. On a multiplayer server, relogging can also refresh a stale crafting interface.
- Check server settings. Administrators can alter progression, knowledge points and recipe access. A server configuration can therefore differ from the standard Age of Sorcery path.
- Inspect ingredients and filters. A recipe may be learned but hidden by a category filter or unavailable because one of its ingredients is missing. Clear filters and read the recipe panel before assuming the station is broken.
If the station shows some parts but not the one you expected, that normally means the missing item belongs to a different progression branch. For example, learning a basic stone shaper does not automatically unlock iron shaper, crystalline tools or specialized coatings.
Common assembly mistakes and fixes
Trying to animate with one arm
The station requires a second arm when one arm has been fitted. Add another valid arm, whether it is a second weapon arm or a compatible tool arm, then activate again.
Leaving out the head
A headless construct can animate, but it loses the head’s health contribution. If the golem is intended to fight or work away from constant supervision, add a head and use the complete six-part layout.
Best Value
Using a normal weapon instead of a weapon arm
A weapon in your inventory is not automatically an arm component. Fuse the weapon with an empty arm at the Workbench first. Only the resulting weapon arm belongs in the Assembly Station’s arm slot.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

The station’s role is assembly and animation. Return to the Golem Workbench for heads, torsos, legs, arms, coatings and weapon-arm fusion.
Choosing a role after crafting
Weapon and material decisions are made through the parts you install. Decide whether the follower is for plants, minerals, mixed work or combat before spending advanced materials, then craft the appropriate weapon arm and coating.
A practical planning checklist
- Locate Huang on your map: Mek-Kamoses’s Spire in the Exiled Lands or Camp of the Castaways on the Isle of Siptah.
- Speak with him and learn Golem Constructor.
- Reserve 100 Brick and 100 Iron Bar for the Guardian Assembly Station.
- Reserve 100 Brick, 50 Iron Bar and 300 Wood for the Golem Workbench.
- Unlock the exact Sorcery branches for your chosen material, tools and coatings.
- Choose a role: plant gathering, mineral gathering, mixed gathering and fighting, or combat.
- Craft one head, one torso, two legs and two arms, including any weapon-arm fusion.
- Place all selected parts in the Guardian Assembly Station.
- Check the one-arm rule and confirm the head if health matters to the job.
- Perform the activation ritual and verify that the construct becomes a follower.
What is and is not known about the “best” golem
The documented system supports clear role-based recommendations: scythes or sickles for plants, mauls for minerals and axes for a mixed role. Stone is the basic path; iron and crystalline or blood-crystal options are more advanced. Heads contribute health, coatings can alter behavior, and a complete body avoids the limitations of incomplete builds.
However, no authoritative performance table establishes a universal winner, exact damage increase, harvesting percentage, health total or combat win rate for each combination. Your server settings, the encounter and the resources you can replace all affect the practical choice. The most defensible approach is to build for the task, keep the six-slot layout when reliability matters, and reserve rare crystalline or blood-crystal components for a role that genuinely benefits from them.
