Computer Monitor Companies: Five Brands to Shortlist and How to Choose

There is no single monitor company that is best for everyone. The right choice depends on the specific model and whether you need a display for office work, gaming, or creative tasks. This five-brand shortlist—Acer, ASUS, Dell, LG, and Samsung—is an editorial starting point, not a sales ranking or a claim that these companies outperform every other maker. For each, compare the model’s panel, features, fit with your computer, and support terms before buying.

Which monitor brands belong on your shortlist?

RTINGS’ comparison of seven monitor brands includes Acer, ASUS, Dell, Gigabyte, LG, MSI, and Samsung. It cautions that performance depends on the model rather than the logo. This guide selects five of those seven as a manageable starting shortlist; it does not rank them or establish that they are the five biggest sellers. Other makers may suit your needs, too: a Consumer Reports buying guide published around 2022 also discussed brands including AOC, BenQ, and ViewSonic, but it is older context, not a current ranking.

Company How to use it in your search
Acer Include its specific models when comparing options for your intended use; the available brand comparison does not establish a universal company-wide winner.
ASUS Compare model-level features and performance against your needs rather than assuming the brand alone predicts the result.
Dell Check the exact display’s specifications and support terms. Consumer Reports’ older guide described Dell as offering a wide range of monitor sizes and features; that does not establish today’s lineup or a service-quality ranking.
LG Use its buying guidance to understand panel types and check whether a display suits the computer it will connect to.
Samsung Use its buying guidance to consider monitor features, then verify that the particular model matches your needs and computer.

This is a shortlist, not a recommendation to buy from any one company. The available sources do not establish a current price comparison, a model-by-model scorecard, or a reliable manufacturer-wide service ranking.

What should you compare before choosing a monitor?

1. Match the display to the job

Start with what you will do most often: office and productivity work, gaming, or creative work. The best fit can differ by use case, and a company’s range may contain models with very different strengths. Identify the features that matter for your work rather than treating a brand name as a shortcut.

#1 Best Overall
Philips 24 Inch Computer Monitor FHD 100Hz VA VESA Flicker-Free, 241V8LB | 1920×1080 LED Monitor, 4ms GtG, Adaptive Sync, HDMI 1.4, Tilt Adjust, Low Blue Light, 4yr Advance Replacement Warranty
  • CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
  • INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
  • THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
  • WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
  • A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents

2. Choose panel characteristics that fit your priorities

Panel technology affects image characteristics such as color, viewing angles, contrast, and response time. LG’s monitor buying guide discusses OLED, IPS, TN, and VA panels. Compare the type and the specifications of the model you are considering against your priorities; the panel label alone does not establish that a monitor will meet them.

3. Check compatibility with your computer

Confirm that the monitor’s inputs and intended capabilities suit the computer you will connect. LG recommends checking the computer’s CPU and GPU as part of the buying decision. Also verify the specific connections and features you plan to use against the monitor and computer specifications; a monitor’s advertised capability is useful only if your setup can support it.

Rank #2
Philips 22 Inch Computer Monitor FHD 100Hz VA VESA Flicker-Free, 221V8LB | 1920×1080 LED Monitor, 4ms GtG, Adaptive Sync, HDMI 1.4, Tilt Adjust, Low Blue Light, 4yr Advance Replacement Warranty
  • CRISP CLARITY: This 22 inch class (21.5″ viewable) Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
  • 100HZ FAST REFRESH RATE: 100Hz brings your favorite movies and video games to life. Stream, binge, and play effortlessly
  • SMOOTH ACTION WITH ADAPTIVE-SYNC: Adaptive-Sync technology ensures fluid action sequences and rapid response time. Every frame will be rendered smoothly with crystal clarity and without stutter

4. Read the exact support terms

Check warranty coverage and pixel-defect rules for the model series and the sales region where you will buy. Policies can differ: Dell’s display pixel guidelines illustrate series-specific applicability, not a rule for every Dell display or other manufacturers. Read the policy that applies to the exact unit rather than inferring coverage from the company name.

How to make the final choice

  1. Write down your primary use. Decide whether office work, gaming, or creative tasks are the priority.
  2. Set model requirements. Identify the panel characteristics, inputs, and capabilities you need, then compare actual models from the shortlist and any other makers you are considering.
  3. Verify computer fit. Check the monitor’s connections and intended features against your computer’s specifications, including its CPU and GPU where relevant.
  4. Review current local terms. Confirm the exact model’s warranty and pixel policy for your region, along with current availability and price.
  5. Use model-specific evidence. Consult reviews of the particular model before purchase. A brand-level comparison cannot establish how an individual display performs.

For a broader starting point, Samsung’s monitor buying guide covers selection considerations. Manufacturer guides explain features, but they are not substitutes for independent model-specific reviews or the exact support terms that apply where you buy.
