Overview

Tango turns work processes into step-by-step walkthroughs and browser agents, making it a fit for teams that need to document repeatable tasks and guide colleagues through them. Its strongest case is a workflow centered on web apps and shareable instructions; it is a weaker fit when work depends on unsupported browsers, certain app areas, or on-premises hosting.

Key features

Capture and guidance

The Chrome and Edge extension captures steps on websites and browser apps without code or flow builders, then turns them into walkthroughs. Guide Me adds on-screen directions and highlights where users should click, which can help people follow a process rather than merely read about it. Tango also offers desktop capture on Mac and Windows through its app, but that requires Pro or Enterprise, and Guide Me does not work with desktop-created workflows.

Coverage has practical limits: the extension does not capture Chrome Settings, the Chrome Web Store, or details within Google Docs and Sheets. Tango says its browser agent interacts with SaaS apps through front-end interfaces using a Chrome or Edge extension, without API connections or custom integrations; it calls out HubSpot and Salesforce. That approach avoids bespoke integration work, but does not make the agent suitable for every app or workflow.

Sharing, security, and hosting

Walkthroughs can be shared by link, embedded in a website or knowledge base, copied as HTML, or exported in formats including PDF and Markdown. The range is useful when instructions need to travel beyond Tango, although the free plan offers only link and embed sharing. Tango says data is encrypted at rest and in transit, undergoes annual SOC 2 Type II audits and penetration tests, and is not retained or used for AI-provider training or fine-tuning. Secure Blur and Live Blur help reduce sensitive data capture, while editors can permanently redact information from images.

Tango is cloud-hosted, with no on-premises deployment. Its extension is for Chrome and Edge, not Firefox or Safari, so browser choice and hosting requirements may rule it out.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes five shared workflows, browser capture, link and embed sharing, and up to 10 users per workspace. It is a useful starting point for small teams, but the workflow cap and narrower capture and sharing options constrain ongoing documentation.

Pro Team is for three or more users: annual billing is 15.00 USD per year (billed $15 /month per user, billed annually), while monthly billing is 20.00 USD per month (billed $20 /month per user, billed monthly). Pro Personal, for one or two users, is 22.00 USD per year (billed $22 /month per user, billed annually) or 26.00 USD per month (billed $26 /month per user, billed monthly). Both Pro tiers include unlimited workflows, browser and desktop capture, 14-day version history, and PDF, Markdown, and HTML export. Annual billing lowers the stated per-user monthly rate, while monthly billing costs more per month.

Enterprise has custom pricing, with a platform fee based on the number of users supported. It adds unlimited applications, browser automation, 365-day version history and audit logs, plus SSO and SCIM. Those controls and longer retention make it the tier for organizations with broader application and access-management needs.

Platforms

Tango supports web, Windows, and macOS, with browser extensions for Chrome and Edge. The desktop app is limited to Pro and Enterprise. Firefox and Safari extensions are not offered.

Who it's for

Tango suits teams that repeatedly perform work in web applications and want to capture the process once, distribute it in several formats, and provide click-by-click guidance. It is less compelling for organizations that need on-premises deployment, Firefox or Safari capture, or reliable documentation of the excluded Chrome and Google Docs or Sheets areas.

Pros and cons

Pros: Browser capture requires no code or flow builder, and Guide Me turns walkthroughs into on-screen prompts.
Pros: Link, embed, and export options make instructions usable across websites and knowledge bases; paid plans add desktop capture.
Pros: Blur controls and image redaction address sensitive information in captured workflows.
Cons: The free plan stops at five shared workflows and lacks the paid plans' desktop capture and broader exports.
Cons: Chrome and Edge are the only supported extension browsers, and several Chrome or Google app areas are not captured.
Cons: Desktop workflows cannot use Guide Me, and the product cannot be deployed on-premises.

Alternatives

For another freemium documentation option, Scribe has a free Basic plan that works with any web app and includes quick customization and link or embed sharing. Whale may suit teams seeking playbooks and AI credits in its free tier, which allows 10 members, one creator, 20 playbook items, and 20 AI credits.

SOP Maker is a free web-based alternative. L2L Manufacturing Intelligence, Parsable, and Taqtile Manifest are paid alternatives. Dozuki directs visitors to request pricing. Tulip has no free plan; its Essentials plan is 100.00 USD per month, billed annually per interface, with a 10-interface minimum.

Readers comparing Standard Operating Procedure Software, AI Documentation Generators, SOP Software, or IT Knowledge Base Software can use those categories to explore other options.

Verdict

Choose Tango if your team needs to capture browser-based processes quickly, share them in multiple formats, and guide users through the steps on screen. Its combination of capture, distribution, and guidance is persuasive for Chrome- and Edge-centered work. Look elsewhere if you require Safari or Firefox coverage, on-premises hosting, or capture of the areas Tango excludes.
