Overview

FocalPoint is rental operations software for equipment and event rental businesses managing inventory, bookings, and service work. It is best suited to operators that need those workflows connected across one or more locations; its breadth is a strong fit, but quote-based pricing calls for a close look at cost and deployment before committing.

Key features

FocalPoint covers quotes, reservations, contracts, accounts receivable, purchase orders, reporting, and service and maintenance. Bringing those activities together can help rental businesses coordinate front-office bookings with ongoing equipment work, while single- and multi-store support accommodates different operating footprints.

Inventory can include serialized and non-serialized rental and merchandise items, and users can group items into kits. The eCommerce feature lets customers browse inventory, reserve, and pay online in a browser. Quote building, online booking, a customer portal, delivery scheduling, and return tracking round out the workflow; that combination suits businesses seeking customer self-service alongside staff tools.

The iOS and Android app supports quotes, reservations, contracts, returns, card payments, signatures, inventory availability, work orders, and dispatch activity. This gives teams a broad set of rental tasks to handle away from a desk, though it may be more scope than a business needs if its operations are largely office-based.

Dispatching for deliveries, pickups, and service work orders can integrate with Bing Maps and most Garmin GPS devices. Accounting integrations include QuickBooks and Sage, with General Ledger and Purchase Order integration; other listed connections include PartSmart, Pedigree Technologies, Zip2Tax, Rouse Analytics, and SmartEquip. Buyers with a specific accounting or fleet workflow should confirm that the relevant integration covers their requirements.

Pricing

FocalPoint Rental Software uses custom pricing. Buyers can purchase a software license or choose a subscription, with flexible payment plans and financing options including 0% interest. Request a quote to compare the license and subscription terms for the intended deployment; no free plan or trial is stated.

Platforms

FocalPoint supports web and Windows use, as well as Android and iOS devices. It can run on a business’s own server or in the cloud, and is accessible from desktop, laptop, tablet, and smartphone. FocalPoint Cloud adds remote access through mobile devices or a remote laptop and includes automatic backups. Businesses choosing cloud hosting should weigh that convenience against their own hosting preferences; no security certifications or compliance standards are specified.

Who it's for

FocalPoint is a strong candidate for equipment and event rental companies that need reservations, contracts, inventory, maintenance, and dispatch in one operational system, especially those serving multiple locations or relying on mobile staff. Smaller operators with limited workflows, or buyers who need a published price to compare options quickly, may prefer a simpler or more transparent alternative.

Pros and cons

Pro: The feature set spans bookings, contracts, receivables, purchasing, service, and reporting, reducing the need to coordinate those rental workflows across separate tools.
Pro: Cloud and self-hosted deployment give businesses a choice about where the system runs; cloud access includes automatic backups.
Pro: Mobile support reaches beyond viewing inventory to include contracts, returns, payments, signatures, work orders, and dispatch activity.
Con: Pricing requires a quote, so buyers cannot assess cost from a published plan price.
Con: After-hours and weekend support is normally for emergencies, while email support is listed for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Standard Time; businesses needing routine help outside those hours should account for that schedule.

Verdict

Choose FocalPoint if your equipment or event rental business needs a broad operational hub, from online reservations and inventory through maintenance, returns, and dispatch, with a choice of cloud or self-hosted deployment. Its chief drawback is the need to obtain a quote, so businesses should compare the proposed cost and support schedule against their actual workflows before choosing it.
