Overview

Clear I-9 is standalone compliance software built around the employment eligibility workflow rather than a general HR suite. Guided steps and automated checks help employees and administrators complete forms consistently, while centralized records give HR a single place to review activity across locations.

The product is designed for staffing, education, construction, hospitality, event venues, healthcare, and other organizations hiring at scale or across multiple sites. Its mobile-friendly, responsive interface is intended to work on virtually any device, which can help employees complete tasks away from a desktop.

Key features

Step-by-step instructions, automated validation, and employee self-service reduce routine data entry and make the process more repeatable. Those controls can prevent common completion mistakes, but HR teams still need to handle exceptions and monitor unresolved cases rather than treating the workflow as fully automatic.

Section 2 can be completed remotely through live video verification or an approved U.S.-based representative. That is useful when employees and reviewers are in different locations or when a central team supports many hiring sites. Employers should confirm that the available verification method matches their operational and legal requirements.

E-Verify case management includes automatic data transfer, alerts, and workflows for tentative nonconfirmations. Keeping TNC follow-up with the I-9 process can reduce handoffs between systems and make outstanding cases easier to track.

Time-stamped, version-controlled records create an audit trail, while centralized and customizable dashboards support reviews across locations. Role-based access helps separate responsibilities. HRlogics describes encrypted storage, access controls, and automated versioning, and states that its platform is SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type II certified.

Integration options cover pre-built connections, public API access, CSV imports, and secure file transfers. Named providers include ADP, Gusto, UKG, Paychex, and Paycom, alongside ATS, HRIS, payroll, and SSO integrations. This breadth is valuable for teams that need to fit I-9 work into an existing stack, although implementation effort will depend on the systems and method selected.

Pricing

Clear I-9 has one published plan, Clear I-9, with pricing not listed; buyers are directed to schedule a demo. E-Verify, remote I-9 workflows, audit trails, API access, and employee self-service are included. There are no published seat, usage, trial, or renewal terms, so larger employers should request a quote that explains how volume and integrations affect the commercial agreement.

Custom pricing makes the product easier to tailor for organizations with complex requirements, but it prevents a straightforward budget comparison with free or metered services. Smaller employers with occasional hiring may find a dedicated paid platform harder to justify unless its centralized controls and support address a specific compliance burden.

Platforms

Clear I-9 runs on the web and is described as mobile-friendly and responsive for use on virtually any device. HRlogics also describes U.S.-based human support, onboarding and training tools, and expert help, which can matter when multiple locations need a consistent rollout.

Who it's for

Choose Clear I-9 when your organization hires across states or locations, needs remote Section 2 verification, or manages enough volume that audit trails and centralized oversight are operational necessities. Staffing firms, healthcare and hospitality employers, schools, construction companies, and event operators are the clearest fits. Its role-based access and integration choices also suit teams coordinating HR, payroll, and hiring systems.

It is less compelling for an employer seeking only an occasional standalone verification or a transparent self-serve price. Those buyers may prefer a free service or a narrowly focused checker.

Pros and cons

Pros

End-to-end workflow: Guided I-9 completion, remote Section 2 options, and E-Verify follow-up are handled in one system.
Audit-ready administration: Time stamps, version control, dashboards, role-based access, and centralized records support multi-location oversight.
Integration flexibility: Pre-built connections, API, CSV, and secure file transfer options accommodate varied HR technology stacks.
Enterprise assurance: HRlogics states that the platform is SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type II certified and provides U.S.-based support.

Cons

No public price: Buyers must schedule a demo and request a quote, making initial budget comparisons difficult.
Process still needs oversight: Automation guides completion and alerts but does not replace exception review or TNC management.
Primarily an employer platform: Organizations with only occasional checks may not need its broader controls.

Alternatives

For a free U.S. government verification service, choose E-Verify; it provides a free internet-based system for employers but does not present Clear I-9's broader guided workflow and record-management scope.

Employers in the UK seeking a no-cost web service should consider GOV.UK Right to Work Checking Service, whose checking service is free.

If you need a metered API and web checker, Right To Work Checker offers a free tier capped at 10 live checks per month and a £14-per-month Pro plan with 100 checks.

For mobile, API, and web access with custom commercial terms, Yoti Right to Work is an alternative.

Rightcheck is another paid option with Android, iOS, and web support and custom pricing.

Choose WorkRight when a defined Lite package matters: it includes 50 monthly verifications, guided I-9 completion, document storage, E-Verify management, audit trails, and remote workflows.

EmploymentCheck Right to Work Check suits buyers wanting one-off UK checks priced per unit or per check.

For tailored data-quality work rather than a dedicated I-9 workflow, consider Experian Data Quality Solutions, which offers consultation-based pricing and a free trial.

Verdict

Clear I-9 is a strong choice for distributed or high-volume employers that want guided completion, remote verification, E-Verify handling, and centralized audit controls connected to existing HR systems. Its main reason to choose it is the breadth of one employer-focused workflow; its main reason to look elsewhere is custom pricing, especially when hiring volume is modest or a free, narrowly scoped checker is sufficient.
