Overview

AdRoll is a cross-channel advertising platform for teams coordinating social and programmatic campaigns. It suits advertisers running campaigns across several placements who want automation and reporting in one system. Its breadth is useful, but audience-targeting gaps and limited support for social ads narrow its fit.

Campaigns can reach the open web and Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Pinterest, using display, native, video, and social formats. The product supports web and API access and is a division of NextRoll, Inc., headquartered in San Francisco. It does not offer competitor targeting or website-level audiences, a meaningful constraint for advertisers whose plans depend on those segments.

Key features

Campaign coordination: Automation Builder coordinates campaigns across channels, while automated rules and creative testing support campaign management and asset comparison. This combination is most useful to teams running a multi-placement program rather than a single-channel effort.
Bid optimization: BidIQ uses AI to optimize bids in real time, reducing the need to handle bidding as a wholly manual process. It does not overcome the product's audience-targeting limits.
Reporting: Real-time campaign metrics, campaign reporting, exportable reports, and reporting APIs give teams options to review performance and move reporting data into other workflows.
Integrations: Connections include Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix, BigCommerce, Klaviyo, AppsFlyer, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, Google Ads, Salesforce, HubSpot, and Google Analytics. The mix covers ecommerce, analytics, customer management, and advertising services.
Privacy and security: AdRoll says it links digital identities across browsers and devices without collecting explicit personal information such as names, phone numbers, addresses, or birth dates. NextRoll reports annual SOC 2 Type 2 certification following its initial audit in August 2020; reports are available to customers and prospects under NDA on request. SSO is not supported; web app MFA is available by SMS or authenticator app.
Support: Written and video resources plus live agent support by email and phone are listed. Social Ads is self-service only, without onboarding, account management, or optimization team support, so advertisers needing that help should look elsewhere or consider another campaign area.

Pricing

AdRoll offers a free entry point and several paid options. The range covers retargeting, self-service advertising, managed services, and account-based marketing or advertising, but most plans use custom pricing or pay-as-you-go terms rather than a published subscription price.

Account-Based Retargeting: 0.00 USD per free, with no fee to get started and payment only for media. It includes retargeting campaigns, free creative support, and AI Assistant insights. This is the clearest low-commitment option for advertisers starting with retargeting; the stated terms make media spend the ongoing cost.
Advanced Package: Custom pricing with an annual commitment. It includes the full AdRoll platform, free ad credits, and guaranteed services, making it the option for buyers seeking a broader package who can accept a yearly commitment.
Account-Based Advertising: Custom pricing by demo request, with bring-your-own-data and multichannel digital advertising. It fits teams with their own audience data seeking a broader advertising program.
Self-Service Ads: Custom pricing on pay-as-you-go advertising; dynamic CPM pricing varies with demand, with no minimum spend. Cross-channel attribution and social ads are available as add-ons. The flexible spend floor suits self-directed advertisers, but variable CPMs make costs demand-dependent, and social ads do not include team support.
Managed Services Ads: Custom pricing on pay-as-you-go advertising, with managed services requiring qualifying ad spend. It is intended for buyers seeking service support, but eligibility depends on spend.
Account-Based Marketing + Advertising: Custom pricing by demo request for end-to-end ABM and advertising strategies.
Account-Based Marketing: Custom pricing by demo request; includes buyer insights, customizable journey stages, workflow orchestration, and advertising playbooks. It is the more focused ABM option compared with the combined marketing-and-advertising plan.

Platforms

AdRoll supports web and API platforms, giving teams a web app alongside API access. That combination suits teams that need both direct access and programmatic connections.

Who it's for

AdRoll is best suited to advertisers coordinating campaigns across social networks and the open web, especially teams that can make use of automated coordination, AI bid optimization, and exportable reporting. It is a weaker fit for advertisers that require competitor or website-level audiences, or that need onboarding and optimization support specifically for Social Ads.

Pros and cons

Pro: Campaigns span the open web and five named social networks, with four ad formats, giving cross-channel advertisers room to coordinate a varied campaign mix.
Pro: Automation Builder, real-time bid optimization, creative testing, and reporting APIs cover several campaign workflow stages in one platform.
Pro: The free retargeting option has no fee to get started, and self-service ads have no minimum spend.
Con: Competitor targeting and website-level audiences are not offered, limiting audience strategies that rely on either.
Con: Social Ads is self-service only and lacks onboarding, account management, and optimization-team support.
Con: SSO is unavailable, which may be a drawback for organizations that require it; MFA is available for the web app.
Con: Most plans have custom pricing, while self-service CPMs vary with demand, making costs less predictable from the outset.

Alternatives

Attensify is a freemium option with a free plan and trial; its free Starter plan supports one website, three social channels, 50 AI-generated posts per month, basic analytics, and community support. Consider it when those social-publishing limits and features fit better than AdRoll's advertising focus.

GetChannel offers a free plan and trial, with a free tier capped at one workspace, three connected channels, seven-day data history, and one team member. Choose it when those channel and workspace limits suit the need for a free starting point.

HiConversion has a freemium model and free plan. Consider it if you want to compare another freemium option.

Manager.Social is a freemium, web-based alternative with a free plan.

Metadata is a paid alternative with a custom-scoped proposal based on channels, managed ad spend, selected capabilities, and delegated work; consider it when that scoped proposal model fits better.

Fluency is a paid, web-based alternative.

Hunch is a paid, web-based alternative.

overads is a paid, web-based alternative.

Verdict

Choose AdRoll if your priority is coordinating social and programmatic campaigns with automated bidding and reporting in one platform, and its audience limits work for your targeting needs. Look elsewhere if competitor or website-level audiences are essential, or if Social Ads requires managed support.
