For a page containing many images, an image-downloader extension can scan the page, filter results and save selected files in bulk. Neither method can guarantee access to every original image: extensions generally see content the page has exposed, while lazy loading, thumbnails, carousels, canvas elements and access restrictions can hide files. Downloading a copy also does not give you permission to republish it.
Save one image with the browser
- Open the page and wait until the image you need is fully visible.
- Open the image’s context menu and choose the browser’s image-save action. The exact label varies by browser, operating system and device.
- Select a known download folder, then confirm the filename and extension before saving.
- Open the downloaded file to check that it is the expected resolution and format.
This works when the site exposes an ordinary image element. A standard save command may not appear when the visual is a CSS background, canvas drawing, embedded viewer, protected document or another layer rendered by scripts. On those pages, inspect the site’s own download control or use the page’s permitted export option rather than trying to defeat an access restriction.

Download several images from one page
When saving images individually is impractical, a browser extension can create a list of images currently exposed on the active page. The Chrome Web Store listing for Image Downloader describes filtering by size, dimensions and URL, removing duplicates, and downloading or viewing selected results. Its listing also warns that it retrieves images currently displayed, so a result can be a thumbnail, or a carousel may expose only a few items at a time.
A practical extension workflow
- Install an extension from your browser’s official add-on store after reviewing its permissions and privacy disclosure.
- Open the target page and let the relevant sections, galleries or lazy-loaded areas load.
- Activate the extension from the browser toolbar.
- Filter by pixel dimensions, file URL, format or other available criteria. Prefer larger dimensions when you need an original-looking file.
- Remove duplicates, select the images you actually need, and start the download.
- Check the destination folder and open a sample from each group to verify resolution, format and transparency.

Why an image is missing or low resolution
Only the rendered portion was discoverable
Many scanners read image elements that are currently present in the page. Scroll through long pages and open the gallery slides you need before scanning. Even then, the page may expose only a thumbnail while the original is fetched after a click.
Lazy loading and carousels
Lazy-loaded images may not exist until they approach the viewport. Carousels often load only the active slide and a small adjacent set. Run the scan again after scrolling or moving through the slides. If the site provides an “open original” or download control, use that source instead of assuming the thumbnail URL is the original.
Backgrounds, canvas and protected viewers
A CSS background or canvas graphic may not appear in an extension’s image list. A PDF or image viewer can also expose a display surface rather than a direct file. Look for an authorized export or download function; do not bypass authentication, paywalls or technical controls.

URL parameters and format conversion
Some image CDNs generate different sizes from URL parameters. Removing or changing parameters can produce a broken request or violate the site’s terms. Preserve the URL as supplied unless the site documents an original-file link.
Choose an extension safely
Check permission scope
An image scanner needs to read webpage content. Chrome lets you limit site access to when you select the extension, the current site, or all sites. Choose the narrowest setting that supports your task and review it before installing or running the tool.
Read data-use disclosures
Chrome Web Store policy requires disclosures about collection, use and sharing of user data, with a prominent pre-install disclosure and informed consent when an extension handles data. Mozilla’s Firefox help documentation likewise describes categories such as browsing activity and website content and allows you to cancel installation if you do not agree. Treat vague or absent disclosures as a reason to choose another tool.

Compare the capabilities that matter

Handle browser download warnings correctly
Browsers may block files they identify as dangerous, suspicious, unverified or insecure. Do not disable security warnings merely to force a download. Re-check the page, the file extension and the source, and use the site’s official download path. If you expected an image but received an HTML login page or an executable file, delete it and investigate before opening.
Downloading is not permission to reuse
A saved file and the right to publish it are separate questions. The U.S. Copyright Office states: “If you want to use someone else’s photo from the internet, you need to get permission.” Check the image’s license and the specific site terms before publishing, selling, advertising with or distributing it.

Fair use is not a percentage rule
Under U.S. guidance, fair use is fact-specific. There is no fixed number of pixels, words, notes or percentage that automatically makes a use fair. The Copyright Office’s Fair Use Index considers four factors: purpose and character, nature of the work, amount and substantiality, and the effect on the potential market or value. Commercial use, a highly creative image, taking the central portion of a work, or substituting for the original can weigh against fair use, but no single factor decides every case. This is U.S. guidance, not a universal statement of every country’s law; seek permission when in doubt.

Troubleshooting checklist
- No images listed: reload the page, scroll through lazy-loaded sections, open gallery slides, then run the scanner again.
- Files are tiny: filter by dimensions, copy an original-image URL when available, and distinguish thumbnails from source files.
- Duplicate files: enable duplicate removal, then compare URLs and dimensions before downloading.
- Permission warning: restrict site access or cancel installation if the data disclosure is unclear.
- Download blocked: heed the browser warning; verify the source and use an official download path.
- Wrong format: confirm whether the extension converted the file and retain the original when licensing or quality matters.
- Reuse dispute: stop publication, identify the license or rights holder, and request permission where required.
