Use the latest official availability report for the specific game, and check which conference or competition policy governs it. College football has no single nationwide report schedule or status dictionary: deadlines, labels, and rules for unlisted players can differ by conference, season, and event.
What does questionable mean on a college football injury report?
It means the player’s availability is uncertain under the policy issuing the report; it is not a diagnosis or a guarantee about whether the player will take the field. Read the label using that competition’s definitions and note whether it appears on a midweek or game-day report.

For example, the Big 12’s 2025–26 policy and the SEC’s 2025–26 regulations define Questionable as a 50% chance of playing. Those percentages are policy shorthand, not clinical probabilities or independent forecasts of an individual player’s outcome. Other conferences may use the same word without the same stated definition.
What do the other status labels mean?
Labels describe availability, not a player’s diagnosis, starting status, or expected workload. The issuing policy controls their exact meaning.

- Available: Generally means the player is available to dress and play or is expected to play, depending on the policy. Big 12 and SEC policies assign it a 100% policy figure; that is not a promise of a particular role or number of snaps.
- Probable: Usually indicates the player is expected or likely to play. The Big 12 and SEC define it as a 75% chance of playing.
- Doubtful: Usually indicates the player is unlikely to play. The Big 12 and SEC define it as a 25% chance.
- Out: The player will not play under that report. It does not necessarily mean the reason is an injury: SEC rules include illness, suspension, eligibility, and personal matters among reasons for unavailability.
- Game Time Decision: The decision remains unresolved on the game-day report. Under the SEC definition, coaches or medical personnel evaluate the athlete during pregame warmups; the label does not mean the player will play.
- Out (1st Half): A separate category in the Big Ten’s 2026 reports. Do not treat it as equivalent to full-game unavailability.
Do not transfer one conference’s definition to another conference or to a playoff game. The CFP’s 2025–26 summary describes its reporting schedule but does not state detailed labels, so consult the applicable CFP policy rather than assuming conference definitions apply.
When do college football injury reports come out?
There is no universal release time. These official policies illustrate how schedules differ; they are season-specific and apply within the stated competition scope.

Does out mean a player is injured?
No. “Out” tells you the player is unavailable under the relevant report; it does not identify the cause. SEC rules explicitly allow non-injury reasons such as illness, suspension, eligibility, or personal matters. A public availability designation is not a medical diagnosis.

If a player isn’t listed, are they available?
It depends on the report’s rules and scope. The Big Ten’s 2026 policy says unlisted players are considered Available, but that policy concerns conference-opponent games and specifies which visiting players are included. The SEC also recognizes exemptions for some athletes not expected to play or who appear only infrequently. An omission in one report therefore does not have a universal meaning.

A report can signal whether a player may be available, but it does not establish who will start, how many snaps they will play, or who will replace them. A midweek status may change on a later report. On game day, Game Time Decision means the player’s status remains pending under that policy rather than confirming activation.
