1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA standard edition usually gives you the base game; a deluxe edition may add digital bonuses, physical extras, or both; and a collector’s edition often adds tangible collectibles. Those labels are conventions, not guarantees: a collector’s box may contain an expansion rather than the base game, or provide the game only as a download code. Check the exact listing for the title, platform, region, game format, and item-by-item contents before paying more.
What each edition usually includes
Publishers do not use “standard,” “deluxe,” and “collector’s” as a universal set of definitions. Treat the name as a tier label, then verify the contents in the product listing.

Standard edition
Usually the base game, sometimes with a small packaging bonus. For example, Square Enix lists the FINAL FANTASY VII Remake Standard Edition with the game and a reversible cover. See Square Enix’s edition contents list.

“Deluxe” can mean digital bonuses, physical items, or a combination. In Square Enix’s FINAL FANTASY VII Remake comparison, the Physical Deluxe Edition includes the base game, Cactuar Summoning Materia, reversible cover, SteelBook case, physical soundtrack, and physical artbook. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the game, Cactuar and Carbuncle summoning materia, and digital soundtrack and artbook. The contents differ even though both editions carry the Deluxe name.
#1 Best Overall
- Face Down Fate: San Francisco, 1915. Orphaned and persecuted for his mixed American and Japanese heritage, young Makoto Daito sneaks aboard a mysterious ship. Rejected by the United States, he risks everything to seek belonging in his mother’s homeland: Japan.
- 5 Eras, 5 Cities: The story unfolds across a version of Japan that may have existed in another life, immersing you in 5 sprawling cities: 1915, Kokura, Fukuoka; 1929, Kure, Hiroshima; 1943, Minami, Osaka; 1951, Atami, Shizuoka; and 1965, Shinjuku, Tokyo.
- Extreme Violence: Experience this struggle through the raw brutality of an evolving combat system that feels alive. You won't just control Makoto Daito, you'll become him—moving his left and right sides independently to attack, defend, and force your way to victory.
- Life of a Showman: Early on, Makoto's guide and mentor discovers his hidden talent for music, and before long, Makoto finds himself not only singing a tune or two but stepping into the role of a showman, producing a variety of incredible acts throughout all of Japan.
- Collector's Edition includes: STRANGER THAN HEAVEN Base Game (Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5), Deluxe Upgrade & Pre-Order Bonus DLC Codes, Exclusive SteelBook Case, Exclusive 12-Inch Vinyl Record, and Exclusive Collector’s Edition Box
Collector’s edition
This tier often adds display pieces or printed collectibles such as a statue, figure, artbook, or branded case. It may include a deluxe copy of the game, but that is not automatic. Bandai Namco’s publisher guide describes a collector’s edition as a limited physical version bundling a base game with exclusive physical items; that is the publisher’s description, not an industry-wide definition. Bandai Namco’s guide also discusses resale variability: demand and print run matter, so buying one as an investment is a gamble.
Check what is actually in the package

- METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER Collector's Editon includes the following items:
- “Day One + Edition” retail release of METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER
- Miniature terrarium based on the iconic opening scene of Virtuous Mission where Naked Snake must recover his equipment bag snagged on a tree branch
- Includes miniature Naked Snake figurine and tree stump with hanging bag
- A recreation of the fake identification badge Naked Snake uses to break into Groznyj Grad Northeast as a scientist
- Is the game included? Confirm whether the package contains the base game, an expansion, an upgrade, or collectibles only.
- How do you play it? Look for a disc, cartridge, download code, or digital entitlement. A SteelBook can be an empty case, so confirm that a game is listed separately.
- Does the format match your platform and region? A console edition may include a disc while the PC edition is digital. Check the exact regional and platform listing rather than assuming the contents carry over.
- Are bonuses physical or digital? A soundtrack or artbook may be downloadable rather than printed. In-game items and DLC may require an internet connection or code redemption.
- What is the collectible, specifically? Check its dimensions, materials, and whether you have room to display it. A longer contents list does not establish an item’s quality or value.
- What is the actual premium and availability? Compare the current price difference and stock for the version you want. Limited availability does not mean an edition will appreciate in value.
Examples show why the label is not enough
| Example | What the official listing says | What to notice |
|---|---|---|
| FINAL FANTASY VII Remake | Standard: game and reversible cover. Physical Deluxe: game, Cactuar Summoning Materia, reversible cover, SteelBook, physical soundtrack, and physical artbook. Digital Deluxe: game, Cactuar and Carbuncle summoning materia, digital soundtrack, and digital artbook. 1st Class adds a Play Arts Cloud Strife and Hardy Daytona box set to its listed contents. | Physical and digital Deluxe editions do not have identical bonuses. The 1st Class tier adds a specific collectible set. |
| Shadow of the Erdtree | The Collector’s Edition lists an expansion voucher, original soundtrack, 46 cm Messmer statue, and 40-page hardcover artbook. The page explicitly says the Elden Ring Standard Edition game is not included. The Deluxe Edition lists the Elden Ring game and expansion, plus digital artbooks and soundtracks. | A collector’s package can center on an expansion and collectibles without including the base game. Check Bandai Namco’s Elden Ring listing for the specific package. |
| Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced | Ubisoft lists a Collector’s Edition with a Deluxe copy, a 31 cm Edward Kenway figurine, leather logbook, and metal brooch. The game is physical on console—one disc on PS5 and Xbox Series X—and digital on PC. | Even within one edition, the game format changes by platform. Ubisoft says quantities are limited and sold-out local retailer stock cannot be replenished through its offer; check the current Collector’s Edition listing for availability. |
| FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION | Square Enix lists a Physical Standard Edition with the game; a Day 1 Edition with a promotional Magic: The Gathering card; a Physical Deluxe Edition with the game, card, soundtrack, artbook, and SteelBook; and a Collector’s Edition adding a Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth statue plus listed digital/game content. | Promotional bonuses and future DLC schedules can have conditions. Square Enix identifies some future DLC schedules as planned and subject to change; do not treat them as settled release dates. See Square Enix’s official page. |
Which edition should you choose?
- Choose Standard if playing the base game is the priority and the higher tiers’ listed extras do not justify their price difference for you.
- Choose Deluxe if you specifically want the included bonus content and have confirmed whether it is physical or digital.
- Choose Collector’s if you genuinely want the named physical collectibles, have room for them, and have verified that the game itself is included in a format you can use.
There is no objectively best tier: the useful comparison is the exact contents and price of the edition for your platform and region.
