Coles Home and Contents Insurance combines cover for a home and its contents, but the quote’s price and protection depend on your address, selected options, sums insured and underwriting. Coles advertises cover for a range of insured events and selected contents benefits; flood and several other extras may require separate selection. Review the applicable Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), any supplementary PDS (SPDS) and your insurance certificate before deciding.
What is Coles Home and Contents Insurance?
Coles offers combined home and contents cover as well as separate home-only and contents-only policies. Auto & General Insurance Company Limited is identified as the issuer of Coles Home and Landlord Insurance. The PDS version for policies starting on or after 1 September 2024 is listed on Coles’ official insurance documents page. A June 2026 SPDS applies to new policies quoted on or after 25 June 2026 and renewals on or after 2 August 2026. Check which documents apply to your quote or renewal; the PDS and your insurance certificate set out the actual cover.

What does Coles home and contents insurance cover?
Coles lists insured events including fire, theft, vandalism, earthquake or tsunami, impact damage, explosion, breakage of glass, escape of liquid, storms and rainwater. The precise cover, definitions, exclusions and claim conditions are in the policy documents. Contents cover is advertised as new-for-old replacement, subject to policy terms.
Some selected contents benefits have stated limits on Coles’ contents insurance page:
- Key and lock replacement: up to $1,000.
- Contents of guests and visitors: up to $500.
- Food spoilage: up to $500.
- Damaged contents while changing address: up to 20% of the contents sum insured in the stated fire or collision circumstances.
These are examples of advertised benefits, not a complete list or guarantee that every loss is covered. Check each benefit’s conditions and limits in the PDS that applies to your policy.
Is flood cover included?
Flood cover is subject to underwriting criteria, so do not assume it is included in a quote. Coles lists flood cover as an optional contents extra, and flood availability depends on underwriting. Check the quote and policy documents for whether flood cover applies to the home, contents or both, and what definitions, exclusions, excesses and limits apply at your address.

Which extras can you choose?
Coles lists optional contents cover including accidental damage, flood cover, motor burnout for electric motors less than 10 years old, commercial storage and Personal Effects cover. Selection can affect the premium, and eligibility and terms may differ by option.
Items at home and items taken away
Contents specified at the insured address and Personal Effects cover do not have identical scope. Coles describes Personal Effects as an optional way to cover certain portable items outside the home, in specified or unspecified forms. Its stated geographic reach includes Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere in the world for up to 90 days, subject to limits, policy terms and additional premium. Check which form applies to each valuable item and whether the item needs to be specified.
How much contents and home cover do you need?
Coles defines the sum insured as the maximum payable to rebuild or replace, and warns that any shortfall is the customer’s responsibility. An estimate that is too low can therefore leave you underinsured. Coles recommends estimating the replacement value of contents and consulting a suitably qualified valuer or building contractor for a more accurate rebuild estimate.
When setting the figures, account for the cost to replace belongings rather than their second-hand sale value, and consider rebuilding costs rather than the property’s market price. Check whether your chosen sums insured reflect the policy’s settlement basis and any limits that may apply to particular categories or claims.
What is the excess?
The excess is the amount you may have to contribute to an accepted claim. Coles’ policy documents do not establish a single excess: it depends on the quote and policy details. Check the insurance certificate and applicable PDS for each excess, including whether different excesses apply to different events or optional covers, before comparing premiums.
How much does Coles home and contents insurance cost?
There is no single price established for this policy. A personalised premium depends on factors including your location, sums insured, cover choices and underwriting. Obtain a quote for your own circumstances and compare the annual cost, including fees, instalment costs and renewal pricing.
Rank #4
Coles currently advertises a 15% online discount and up to 15% combined discount for an eligible new combined policy bought in one transaction. The terms state these discounts apply to the insurance portion, may be reduced by minimum premiums and may change; they do not apply at renewal. The combined discount is not universal, and a first-year discount does not establish the ongoing premium or value of the cover.
Where is Coles home insurance available?
Coles says standard underwriting criteria apply and that home and landlord insurance is unavailable in the Northern Territory, North Queensland and Northern Western Australia. Availability can also depend on underwriting at a particular address. Confirm eligibility for your property when obtaining a quote.

What claims and repair service does Coles advertise?
Coles says claims can be lodged online or by telephone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and that the quality of authorised repairs is guaranteed. These are Coles’ stated service features; they do not establish independently measured claims speed, customer satisfaction or repair outcomes.
How to compare a quote fairly
A headline discount alone cannot show whether a policy is good value. Compare quotes for the same address and, where possible, the same sums insured. Use the policy documents and quote details to check:
- Which events are covered and whether flood is available for your address.
- Which benefits are included by default and which require an optional extra.
- Item limits, sub-limits and the conditions attached to them.
- Excesses for the events and covers you are considering.
- Sums insured and the settlement basis for home and contents claims.
- Regional eligibility and any underwriting restrictions.
- Total annual premium, fees, instalment costs and renewal pricing.
The product information does not provide a customer-specific Coles quote or a current like-for-like comparison with other policies, so it cannot establish that Coles is cheaper or better overall.
