What would be needed to verify the 1,000GB figure?
A useful account would identify the machine and explain how and where the bytes were counted. “Traffic” alone is ambiguous: it could mean uploads, downloads, local-network transfers, or total bytes recorded at a network interface. Router totals, ISP figures, endpoint monitors, and packet captures can measure different things.

Without those details, there is no sound basis to attribute the alleged volume to malware, surveillance, streaming, routine telemetry, or a device fault. No incident-specific statement from a named IT professional or original report is established here.
How to check a smart appliance’s network use
If you are concerned about a device on your own network, begin with your router’s per-device usage view, if available. Check upload and download totals separately, confirm the device identity, and compare readings over a defined period. Router labels and measurement features vary by model, so consult the router maker’s documentation for the applicable interface.

- Review its upload and download figures separately, and note the measurement period.
- Check whether the router may have assigned the traffic to a different device or included local-network transfers in the total.
- Consult the coffee-machine maker’s current documentation or support service if the traffic remains unexpected.
Should you put smart appliances on a separate Wi-Fi network?
A separate IoT network can reduce how directly connected appliances interact with devices on a primary network, depending on the router’s isolation settings. TP-Link Service Provider says separating IoT devices can improve connection stability and enhance security by isolating low-bandwidth or high-volume IoT traffic.
