The one coffee machine this evidence clearly says to avoid is the recalled Kidisle KC101B. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says owners should stop using it because it can release hot liquid or steam unexpectedly. For other machines, there is not enough model-level evidence here to name a responsible “avoid” list; use recall checks and reliability data rather than brand reputation or isolated complaints.

Kidisle KC101B hot and iced coffee machine
The CPSC recalled the Kidisle-branded hot and iced coffee machine, model KC101B, on June 11, 2026. Check the model number on the sticker on the underside of the machine. The recall covers units sold online at Amazon, Walmart, and eBay from June 2024 through April 2026 for about $49. The recall number is 26-557. Read the CPSC recall notice.

The hazard is not a taste or durability concern: CPSC says clogging can cause hot liquid or steam to build up and escape unexpectedly during use. It reported at least 107 reports of unexpected releases and at least 27 reported injuries, including first- and second-degree burns requiring medical treatment. Those counts concern the KC101B recall, not coffee makers generally.
If you own one, stop using it and contact Kidisle for a full refund. Do not try to clear a clog or continue brewing while seeking a remedy; the agency’s instruction is to stop using the machine.

Why there is no broader “avoid” list here
A recall is strong, model-specific evidence. A low rating, a brand-level snippet, or one owner’s complaint is not equivalent evidence that every machine from a manufacturer—or even another model from the same brand—is unsafe or a poor purchase.
Consumer Reports describes model evaluations and reliability estimates, but the available information does not establish specific current rankings for other coffee makers. It therefore cannot substantiate naming additional models to avoid. Check the exact model and its current recall status, and look for model-level reliability information before making a decision.

How to assess a coffee machine before buying
Check the exact model for recalls
Search by model number, not just brand. Confirm that the product listing, box, or machine identifies the same model as any recall notice. A warning about one model should not be generalized to an entire product category without evidence.

Consumer Reports says its reliability estimates represent the likelihood that a newly purchased machine will have a problem within four years, based on member survey data. It reports owner satisfaction separately; satisfaction and reliability answer different questions, so one should not be treated as a substitute for the other. Consumer Reports says its 2023 and 2025 surveys covered 81,568 coffee makers purchased between 2017 and 2025: 27,742 drip, 47,003 single-serve pod, and 6,823 dual machines. It reports results for 45 brands. This describes the scope of the survey; it does not, by itself, establish a ranking for a particular model.
Compare machines that match your coffee habits
First decide what you need the machine to make and how much coffee you typically brew. Consumer Reports’ buying guide distinguishes drip, single-serve, cold-brew, and dual machines, and points to coffee style, household volume, and desired features as relevant factors. - Routine handling: Consider how easy the reservoir is to fill, the filter is to install, and the controls are to understand. For drip machines, Consumer Reports also assesses how easy it is to estimate how much coffee remains.
- Cleaning: A machine that is difficult to clean may be a poor fit for your routine even if it offers many features.
- Capacity and style: Match batch size and brewing method to the people who will use it. A machine can be reliable yet unsuitable for a household’s needs.
Use a like-for-like comparison
When comparing two or more models, assess each on the same criteria rather than relying on price, feature count, or brand familiarity as proxies for quality:
