Coastline Bank’s Standard Home Buildings and Contents cover is arranged with CGU, with Insurance Australia Limited identified as the issuer under the CGU brand. Coastline’s website is a product overview, not a substitute for the current Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), a quote or your Certificate of Insurance. The summary lists a range of insured events and benefits, but exclusions, conditions, limits and your selected sums insured determine how cover applies. No quote or premium comparison is available here, so this review cannot establish whether the policy is suitable or good value for your circumstances.
Who provides the cover?
Coastline Bank distributes the insurance through its CGU insurance partner and identifies Insurance Australia Limited as the issuer under the CGU brand. The bank’s product page describes the cover at a high level; the PDS sets out policy terms, while your Certificate of Insurance records the cover and excesses that apply to your policy. Check those documents before relying on any summary benefit. Coastline Bank’s home and contents overview

What does Standard Home Buildings and Contents cover?
The combined policy is described as cover for a home and its contents against a range of incidents. Coastline says CGU pays to repair or rebuild a damaged home up to the insured amount for covered events. Its public summary names:
- Fire, including bushfire
- Theft and vandalism
- Flood and rainwater runoff
- Storm, storm surge and tsunami
Those event names are not a guarantee that every loss associated with them is covered. Definitions, exclusions, conditions, sublimits and claim circumstances matter. Coastline specifically says actions of the sea, such as tides and waves, are not covered. Read the PDS for the detailed treatment of water damage and other exclusions.

Other benefits and optional cover
Coastline’s overview also lists legal liability cover up to $20 million and visitors’ belongings cover up to $2,500. It describes optional accidental damage, valuable contents, motor burnout and portable contents cover. These are summary-page figures and options, not a substitute for checking eligibility and limits in the PDS and your certificate.
- Motor burnout: The overview says cover applies to motors up to 15 years old if they are not under warranty and are not used in a business.
- Portable contents: The overview describes cover up to $10,000 per item unless an item is separately listed for a higher amount. Geographic and activity exclusions apply.
What is the difference between Standard and Plus?
Coastline’s product page identifies the clearest differences as the building safety net and temporary accommodation periods. Plus has higher limits on some inclusions, including food spoilage and landscaping, but the overview does not provide all the detailed terms.

| Feature | Standard | Plus | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Temporary accommodation | Up to 12 months | Up to two years | Coastline Bank product page, copyright 2025; confirm operation and limits in the current PDS and certificate. |
| Building safety net | No 25% safety net stated | 25% above the building sum insured | Coastline Bank product page, copyright 2025; this is a Plus feature, not a Standard benefit. |
| Some inclusion limits | Not stated | Higher limits for some inclusions, including food spoilage and landscaping | Coastline Bank product page, copyright 2025; the exact limits are not stated in the overview. |
Do not assume a Plus limit applies to Standard. Confirm the relevant tier and exact benefit terms in the documents for the cover you are considering.
How much contents insurance do you need?
Choose a contents sum insured based on what it would cost to replace your belongings, rather than what you paid for them or what you think you could sell them for. Coastline’s Home Contents Key Facts Sheet, revision 08/17, recommends listing possessions and estimating replacement costs, and warns that inadequate cover can leave you underinsured. Because that sheet is dated, use it for the general valuation approach—not as evidence of current detailed policy terms. Coastline Bank Home Contents Key Facts Sheet
- Make a room-by-room inventory. Record furniture, clothing, appliances, electronics, tools and other belongings. A spreadsheet or written list can help you keep track.
- Estimate replacement costs. Use the cost of replacing each item with a comparable new item, and total the estimates. Avoid overlooking everyday possessions that are easy to forget.
- Check valuables and portable items separately. Look for policy requirements to specify or separately list items, and confirm any item limits and conditions in the PDS.
- Review the total when your belongings change. New purchases, renovations or items that leave your home can change the amount of cover you need. Check the sum insured and certificate rather than assuming the policy updates it automatically.
The key facts sheet states that a failure to adequately insure contents for their replacement value may result in underinsurance. Its revision is 08/17, so verify current policy terms and how any claim would be assessed in the current PDS.
What should you verify before deciding?
The overview does not establish the current PDS version, your quote-specific premium, or your applicable excess. Coastline says its website information is general advice and directs readers to consider their circumstances and the PDS and Target Market Determination (TMD). Use your quote and policy documents to check the details that affect your decision:

Coastline’s Home Contents Key Facts Sheet, revision 08/17, states a 21-day cooling-off period subject to conditions: the policy must have been issued and no claim made. That is a dated statement, not confirmation of the current policy’s cooling-off terms. Check the current policy documents before relying on the timing.

How to compare it with another policy
Compare like with like across the current PDS and quote for each policy. A headline price or a list of event names alone will not show whether the cover matches your needs. Use the same address, sums insured, excess settings and optional covers, then compare the terms that can change what is covered or paid. A CHOICE review located for this product concerns Plus; it is not evidence of Standard’s terms. CHOICE’s Coastline Bank Home Insurance Plus review
