Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami marked Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, 2026, with tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at his residence. He separately paid homage to martyrs of the Uttarakhand statehood movement at Shaheed Sthal in Dehradun.

Tributes to Gandhi and Shastri at his residence
Dhami laid floral tributes to Gandhi and Shastri at his residence on Friday, October 2. He associated Gandhi with truth, non-violence and humanity, and Shastri with simplicity, honesty, duty and dedication to the nation. Homage to statehood movement martyrs at Shaheed Sthal
In a separate visit, Dhami went to Shaheed Sthal at the Kachahari complex in Dehradun to honour martyrs of the Uttarakhand statehood movement. He said the state’s formation had been made possible by the struggle, sacrifice and martyrdom of statehood activists. He also described support and respect for activists and families of those who died, alongside work toward a prosperous, empowered and self-reliant Uttarakhand, as ways to honour the movement’s aspirations. On the same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to Gandhi at Rajghat and to Shastri at Vijay Ghat in Delhi, according to the Prime Minister’s Office. The PMO release quoted Modi’s message: “Their lives of simplicity, courage and service to the nation continue to inspire generations.” These were separate national observances, not part of Dhami’s Uttarakhand events. Context from the eve of the anniversaries
In a report published on October 1, Dainik Jagran covered an eve-of-anniversary message in which Dhami highlighted Shastri’s simplicity, honesty, duty, morality and national service, and Gandhi’s truth, non-violence, love, harmony and humanity. Separately, Uttarakhand’s Governor’s information wing posted a press note on October 1 saying Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) issued a message for Gandhi and Shastri’s birth anniversaries.
