GeForce NOW streams supported PC games that you already own (or buy) from participating stores. Xbox Cloud Gaming is mainly an included Game Pass catalog, with some free-to-play and selected owned games available. Amazon Luna combines a rotating Prime library with the paid Luna Premium catalog. Your choice then comes down to device support, controller needs, network quality, and the performance or session limits of the tier you select.

All three services run the game on a remote server and send video and audio to your screen. That removes the need for a gaming PC or console powerful enough to render the title, but it makes your internet connection, input device and local network part of the experience.

How each service lets you access games
GeForce NOW: a streaming layer for your PC library
NVIDIA’s model is closest to renting remote gaming hardware. You must own or purchase a game from a supported store before playing it on GeForce NOW, unless it is one of the supported free-to-play titles. Supported storefronts include Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, EA app, GOG, Epic Games Store, Steam and Xbox. Buying a game on one of those stores does not guarantee GeForce NOW support; the specific title must also be in NVIDIA’s supported catalog.
This approach suits someone who has already built a PC library and wants to play it on a lower-powered laptop, Mac, Chromebook or TV. It does not provide one all-you-can-play subscription catalog, so add the cost of any games you do not already own.

Xbox Cloud Gaming: a Game Pass-first catalog
Xbox Cloud Gaming is primarily a way to play hundreds of console games included with an eligible Game Pass plan. The subscription is the central cost, and the available catalog changes as games enter and leave the plan. Select free-to-play games can be launched with a free Microsoft account, so you can test cloud play without subscribing to a paid plan when the title is supported.
Xbox also says that select cloud-playable games you own or buy can be streamed outside Game Pass. This is not a blanket “stream any Xbox purchase” rule: check the cloud-playable designation for each game and the account or region requirements that apply.
Luna: Prime access plus a rotating Premium library
Amazon Prime includes access to a rotating selection of more than 50 cloud-delivered games where Luna is available. Luna Premium is listed at $9.99 per month in Amazon’s FAQ, but Amazon notes that pricing varies by region. Both catalogs rotate, so a game available this month may not remain available indefinitely.

Luna therefore works best for people who value an included rotating selection rather than ownership of a permanent PC library. You can also use compatible Xbox, PlayStation or other supported Bluetooth controllers instead of buying Amazon’s controller.

Performance, queues and session expectations
GeForce NOW has the clearest published ceilings
NVIDIA documents the hardware and output targets for its paid tiers. Ultimate uses RTX 5080 virtual rigs and can reach up to 5K at 120 FPS, or up to 360 FPS at 1080p in its competitive mode. Performance supports up to 1440p at 60 FPS. Free-tier rig performance varies with the game and server availability, so do not treat the paid-tier figures as a free-plan guarantee.
NVIDIA’s membership information also describes shorter waits, longer sessions, RTX features and 50-Series performance for Ultimate. Exact queue behavior, session allowances and plan prices can change, so check the current membership page before subscribing.
Xbox and Luna are more device- and title-dependent
The Xbox and Luna pages reviewed for this comparison do not publish one universal resolution or frame-rate ceiling across every game, device and connection. A faster connection can improve stability, but it does not turn an unsupported device into a high-refresh gaming display. Judge these services by the games and screens you actually plan to use rather than by an assumed 4K or 120-FPS target.

Xbox Cloud Gaming coverage
Xbox lists cloud gaming on Windows PCs; Apple and Android phones and tablets; Xbox consoles; select LG, Samsung and VIDAA smart TVs; Amazon Fire TV; and select Meta Quest headsets. “Select” matters: model, operating-system version, app availability and country can all change whether the service appears on your device.

Luna coverage
Amazon lists Luna on Fire TV and Fire tablets, select Samsung and LG TVs, iOS and Android devices, Windows PCs, Macs and Chromebooks. A browser may be required on some computers or mobile devices, while a TV may require the Luna app or a compatible streaming device.
GeForce NOW coverage
GeForce NOW supports common Windows, Mac and Chromebook setups and can run through supported browsers, TVs and streaming devices. NVIDIA’s app and browser requirements differ by operating system and may change, so verify the current compatibility list for your exact model before buying hardware for the service.
Internet speed, latency and controllers
Minimum speeds are not the same as a good experience
Xbox lists at least 10 Mbps download speed and recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi; some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. NVIDIA recommends 25 Mbps for 1080p at 60 FPS, 45 Mbps for 4K at 120 FPS and up to 65 Mbps for 5K at 120 FPS. Those are download targets, not latency guarantees. A congested Wi-Fi channel, long route to the server or packet loss can cause stutter even when a speed test shows enough bandwidth.

If you use Wi-Fi, connect the gaming device to the 5 GHz band (or a newer Wi-Fi 6 network), keep it close to the access point and pause large downloads or video uploads during play. A wired connection is especially valuable for high-resolution GeForce NOW modes.

Controller requirements
Xbox requires a compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB for most cloud games. Select titles expose touch controls, but touch support is game-specific rather than a service-wide replacement for a controller.
Luna’s GameNight feature can turn a phone into a controller. Other Luna games require a controller or mouse and keyboard. Amazon lists its Luna Controller at $69.99 and describes direct cloud connectivity intended to reduce latency; compatible Xbox, PlayStation and Razer controllers are also supported. The Amazon controller is optional.
GeForce NOW input is determined by the game and client. Many PC games work with mouse and keyboard, while a controller is preferable for console-style titles and TV play.

Set up GeForce NOW
- Create or sign in to an NVIDIA account and choose the free, Performance or Ultimate membership available in your region.
- Install the GeForce NOW app for your device or open a supported browser.
- Open Settings and run the service’s connection test. Prefer Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi; target at least 25 Mbps for 1080p/60 and more for 4K or 5K modes.
- Under Settings, connect the digital storefront accounts that contain your games, such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect or Xbox, when prompted.
- Search for the exact title, confirm that it is supported, and select Play. The first launch may install or synchronize the game in NVIDIA’s remote environment.
- Connect your controller before launching, or verify that mouse and keyboard input is recognized if you are playing a PC-focused title.
Set up Xbox Cloud Gaming
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that holds your eligible Game Pass plan, or use a free account for a supported free-to-play title.
- Open Xbox Cloud Gaming from a supported Xbox app, browser or TV/streaming-device app.
- Pair a compatible Bluetooth controller or connect one by USB. If the game offers touch controls, the cloud-gaming interface will identify that option.
- Connect the device to 5 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Start with at least 10 Mbps down; allow about 20 Mbps where Xbox recommends it for your device.
- Choose a cloud-enabled game from the catalog. For an owned game outside Game Pass, verify that Xbox identifies it as cloud-playable before attempting to launch.
Set up Luna
- Sign in to your Amazon account on a supported Fire TV, Fire tablet, Samsung or LG TV, iOS or Android device, Windows PC, Mac or Chromebook.
- Confirm whether the title is included through Prime or requires Luna Premium. Premium is listed at $9.99 monthly in Amazon’s FAQ, with regional variation.
- Pair a compatible controller, connect the optional Luna Controller, or select GameNight when you want to use a phone as the controller. Mouse and keyboard are supported for games that accept them.
- Use Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and close bandwidth-heavy applications on the same network.
- Launch the game and check the on-screen input and quality indicators before inviting other players.
Which service fits common situations?
- You already own a large Steam or other PC library: Start with GeForce NOW, then check each important game’s support status. You pay for the service tier and retain your existing store purchases.
- You want a subscription catalog of console games: Xbox Cloud Gaming is the most direct fit when your desired titles are in an eligible Game Pass plan.
- You have Prime and want an inexpensive way to sample cloud gaming: Try Luna’s included rotating library first. Upgrade to Luna Premium only if its current catalog matches what you want to play.
- You mainly play on an Xbox console or a supported smart TV: Xbox has the broadest specifically listed console-and-TV path, but confirm your television model and country.
- You use a Mac or Chromebook: GeForce NOW and Luna both list computer support; Xbox access depends on the supported browser or app path available for your device.
- You want the highest documented refresh-rate option: GeForce NOW Ultimate is the only one of the three with published targets as high as 5K/120 or 360 FPS at 1080p. Your display, network and game must also support the selected mode.

- Service access: GeForce NOW membership tier, eligible Game Pass plan or Luna Premium. Current prices and cloud-hour or session limits are changeable and should be checked at purchase.
- Games: GeForce NOW may require buying a supported title; Xbox and Luna catalogs are included only while your plan and the game’s availability qualify.
- Controller: Xbox generally needs a compatible Bluetooth or USB controller. Luna’s $69.99 controller is optional because other compatible controllers work, and GameNight can use a phone.
- Network and display: Budget for a 5 GHz or Wi-Fi 6 router, Ethernet cable or supported TV/streaming device if your current equipment cannot meet the service requirements.
Common problems and fixes
Video is blurry or keeps buffering
Run the client connection test, stop other downloads, move from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and try Ethernet. If the problem affects only one service, server distance or a temporary regional load may be involved; test again at another time before changing hardware.
Input feels delayed
Use a wired controller connection where possible, reduce local Wi-Fi congestion and avoid routing through a distant wireless repeater. On a TV, connect the controller to the device that is actually running the cloud app, not automatically to a nearby console.
The game or app is missing
GeForce NOW requires the exact title to be supported even when you own it. Xbox requires the game to be cloud-enabled and your account to have the relevant access. Luna’s catalog rotates. Search the service’s current catalog and check country and device eligibility before troubleshooting the network.

Device lists and country availability change. Xbox and Luna both qualify their TV support by model, and Amazon currently lists Luna cloud delivery in 14 countries: the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium and Luxembourg. If your country or model is not listed, use a supported computer or mobile device only if the service officially offers that path in your region.
