Claude’s connections to Microsoft 365, Slack, and Salesforce do not share one permission model. Microsoft 365 uses user-delegated access with optional write tools; Slack access is governed through its app installation and scopes; Salesforce described a centrally administered Claude integration in a dated product announcement. Treat each as a separate deployment to inventory and assess—not as one integration covered by a single security review.
Start by finding each connection and its owner
A connector or app may be enabled through user consent, tenant or organization administration, or both. Build an inventory that identifies which Claude product or account is connected, which work platform it reaches, who authorized it, which users or groups can use it, and whether it can take actions as well as read data. Then review permissions and revocation separately for each platform.

The available controls and details differ substantially. The table summarizes what the vendors’ published materials establish; it is not a claim that every feature or permission is available to every customer today.
| Connection | Access and approval model | Read or write capability | Key security-review question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 | User-delegated permissions; a Microsoft Entra Global Administrator must grant tenant consent, and an organization owner must enable the connector on Team and Enterprise plans. | Slack | Members who are allowed to install apps can install Claude; Enterprise organization roles can install it across selected workspaces. Admins can review scopes and allow access for everyone, selected members or groups, or no one. [Slack Help Center] | The cited Slack guide describes the app and its scopes, but does not establish the current Claude Tag permission model or detail its data handling. [Slack Help Center] | What app is currently installed, what scopes does it have, and which users or workspaces can access it? |
| Salesforce | Salesforce’s August 26, 2026 announcement describes Salesforce in Claude as using a single admin connection with centrally managed authentication and permissions. These are vendor-described characteristics, not a substitute for inspecting the actual configuration. [Salesforce announcement] | The announcement describes sales skills and actions such as pipeline updates, but does not document detailed connector scopes. Microsoft 365: understand delegated access, search, and writes
Anthropic describes its Microsoft 365 connector as Anthropic-hosted and user-delegated. It can connect to Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams. The connector mirrors the connected user’s existing Microsoft 365 access: it does not grant Claude access to data that user cannot view. Shared mailboxes are available only when the user has delegated access, and that access is read-only. Anthropic also says delegated access respects Microsoft 365 DLP policies. SharePoint search has a tenant-wide permission requirement
Anthropic says SharePoint search requires the Microsoft Graph permission Sites.Read.All. Site-specific *.Selected permissioning is not supported because search is tenant-wide. This does not mean the connector overrides a user’s existing access; it does mean administrators should assess the breadth of the application permission and the consequences of tenant-wide search before approving it. [Anthropic Microsoft 365 connector security guide]
Read access is the default; actions need extra approval
Anthropic’s setup guide says read permissions are enabled by default. Write tools require consent to updated permissions and an organization-level enablement step. When enabled, they may allow actions such as sending email, managing calendar events, creating or updating files, and sending Teams messages. Review each tool’s permissions and decide whether to enable writes at all; do not infer that approval of read access also approves these actions. [Anthropic setup guide]

Know what is retrieved and what can remain in a chat
Anthropic says Microsoft 365 files and messages remain in the tenant, are retrieved on demand during active queries, and file content is not cached by the connector. However, tool-call results included in a stored Claude conversation are retained as chat content. “Not cached” therefore does not mean that no retrieved information can appear in a retained Claude chat. Include chat retention and access in the data-flow review. [Anthropic Microsoft 365 connector security guide]

Plan revocation, not just approval
Anthropic says the connector can be disabled in Claude organization settings, while specific capabilities can be revoked through Entra, including SharePoint, email, Teams chat, Teams message writing, and OneDrive. Users or administrators can revoke access. The guide also gives a default refresh-token expiry of 90 days of inactivity. Decide who owns each revocation path and test it before granting access. Slack: review the installed app, scopes, and current transition state
Slack’s help page says the Claude app can be installed by members who are permitted to install apps. On Enterprise, organization roles can install it at the organization level and choose workspaces. Admins can inspect scopes and set access for everyone, selected members or groups, or no one; users connect a Claude account after installation. Use those controls to limit who can use the connection, and inspect the actual scopes granted in your workspace rather than assuming they match another organization’s setup. [Slack Help Center]
The same page states that Claude Tag would replace the current Claude app starting August 3, 2026. That date has passed. The page does not provide enough Claude Tag-specific technical detail to establish its present scopes, data handling, or permission behavior. Confirm the app currently installed in Slack administration and evaluate its live scopes and configuration; do not carry over assumptions from the former app. [Slack Help Center]

Salesforce: distinguish the announcement from your deployed configuration
Salesforce and Anthropic announced Claudeforce on August 26, 2026. The announcement described Salesforce in Claude as a plugin with 37 prebuilt sales skills, including meeting preparation, deal-health review, pipeline review, and pipeline updates. Salesforce said setup used one admin connection with centrally managed authentication and permissions, and that actions routed through Salesforce so business rules would be enforced. These are Salesforce’s product claims; verify the controls and action paths in the environment you would deploy. [Salesforce announcement, August 26, 2026]
The announcement said Salesforce in Claude was available to select pilot customers and that open beta was expected in September 2026. It does not establish whether that beta subsequently occurred, which customers can access it now, or the detailed connector scopes. Confirm current availability and permissions with Salesforce before treating the announced setup as a deployable option. The announcement also described Claude within Agentforce and other Salesforce offerings, including Claude via Amazon Bedrock within the Salesforce Trust Boundary; those are distinct product paths and should not be presumed to share the same configuration. [Salesforce announcement, August 26, 2026]
Check what your audit and compliance systems actually capture
Anthropic’s Compliance API documentation says Claude Enterprise organizations can retrieve Activity Feed events and access enterprise directories, effective settings, chats, files, projects, and sessions, including Claude for Microsoft 365 sessions. Anthropic describes uses including audit, content retrieval or deletion, and downstream tooling. Its documentation distinguishes retrospective Compliance API retrieval from beta inference hooks, which can deny governed prompts inline. An API or downstream integration is not proof that every data type—or every action in a third-party application—is captured identically. Validate coverage, retention, and alerting against the events your policies require. [Anthropic Compliance API documentation]

Quick Recap
Pre-rollout security checklist
- Inventory connections: identify the Claude products, platform apps or connectors, connected accounts, users, workspaces, and administrators involved.
- Inspect authorization: review live OAuth scopes, tenant consent, admin connections, and the groups or workspaces allowed to use each integration.
- Set action boundaries: decide which integrations are read-only and, where writes exist, which specific actions are approved and who can invoke them.
- Test enforcement: validate Microsoft Conditional Access and DLP behavior in the documented server-side flow; separately check Slack and Salesforce controls rather than assuming Microsoft settings apply to them.
- Assign revocation ownership: document who can disable an integration, revoke a user’s access, and remove specific capabilities, then test the steps.
- Verify audit coverage: confirm which prompts, retrieved content, chat records, and third-party actions your logging and compliance pipeline receives—and which it does not.
