A Wccftech report published October 11, 2026, says a Reddit user traced recurring blue-screen errors on a five-year-old PC to G.SKILL memory with help from Claude, then received replacement sticks through an RMA. The user reportedly paid shipping and tariffs, so “free replacement” applied to the memory modules—not every cost. The account is a single user-reported case, and the report does not provide enough detail to independently verify the diagnosis or RMA paperwork. Wccftech’s account does not establish that an AI assistant can reliably diagnose hardware faults or that G.SKILL RMAs are universally free.
What happened in the reported case?
According to Wccftech, the user’s five-year-old PC was experiencing random blue screens with stop codes 0x0A, 0x1E, 0x3B, and 0x1A. The report says Claude helped narrow the suspected cause to G.SKILL RAM and assisted with the RMA process; G.SKILL then replaced two memory sticks. The user still paid shipping and tariffs.

The report paraphrases the issue rather than reproducing the user’s original question or detailed troubleshooting exchange. It does not identify the RAM model, system configuration, test results, or the evidence G.SKILL used to approve the claim. Treat it as an anecdote, not a reproducible diagnosis or a guarantee of the same outcome for another customer.

Memory problems can be one possible cause of system crashes, but a blue-screen code or a memory-test error by itself does not prove that a RAM module is defective. PassMark cautions that not all errors reported by MemTest86 are due to bad memory; unstable timings or XMP settings, BIOS compatibility, and other hardware can also contribute. MemTest86 also cannot diagnose every cause of PC crashes. See PassMark’s MemTest86 troubleshooting guidance.
#1 Best Overall
- Requires overclocking/BIOS adjustments. Maximum speed and performance depends on system components, including motherboard and CPU.
- G.SKILL Flare X5 Series DDR5 U-DIMM Memory Kit, Model: F5-6000J3636F16GX2-FX5
- Non-ECC, DDR5 U-DIMM, 288-pin, for Desktop PC & Gaming
- Includes JEDEC default profile, and AMD EXPO & Intel XMP 3.0 memory overclock profile
- Do not mix memory kits. Memory kits are sold in matched kits that are designed to run together as a set. Mixing memory kits will result in stability issues or system failure.
How to check RAM before requesting an RMA
- Record the system and settings. Note the memory kit model, motherboard and CPU, operating system, BIOS version if known, and whether a memory profile such as XMP is enabled. Record the circumstances of the crashes and the stop codes.
- Run a memory test. G.SKILL suggests tools such as MemTest86 or Windows Memory Diagnostic. Record the software used and the results. A reported error is useful evidence to investigate, not a definitive verdict on the DIMM.
- Test modules individually if you can do so safely. G.SKILL says, “It would be best if each module is tested individually, in order to produce conclusive results.” Note which module and slot were tested and whether the error followed a particular module. If you are uncomfortable handling components, ask a technician or the system builder for help.
- Ask for support before filing. Share the configuration, memory settings, test software and results, and module-and-slot observations with G.SKILL support or the system builder. G.SKILL recommends troubleshooting with technical support before requesting an RMA.
G.SKILL’s DRAM FAQ recommends individual-module testing and directs users to support if all or none of the modules produce errors. Avoid treating a single test outcome as proof when settings, compatibility, or another component may be involved.
How G.SKILL’s RMA process works
Start by checking the retailer and warranty route for the specific product and purchase. G.SKILL’s RMA policy says valid claims are generally handled through the original point of purchase during the first 30 days, though retailer rules can vary; claims that cannot be processed there should be directed to G.SKILL. The company recommends troubleshooting with technical support first.

If proceeding through G.SKILL, its RMA request form asks for the product model, module serial numbers, purchase details, problem description, motherboard, CPU, and operating system. It says an approved RMA number is valid for 30 days. Follow the current instructions provided with the authorization, and confirm any shipping or other charges before sending hardware.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCoverage is not unconditional. G.SKILL’s warranty policy describes limited coverage for the original purchaser of genuine hardware bought from an authorized reseller; the applicable period depends on the product and terms. Verify eligibility for the exact kit rather than assuming every product or buyer has the same coverage.

What this case does—and does not—show
The reported outcome is that two G.SKILL sticks were replaced without a charge for the modules, while the user paid shipping and tariffs. It does not establish that every RMA will be approved, that every replacement will be free of all costs, or that Claude independently confirmed a hardware fault. G.SKILL’s support and warranty pages explain available routes, but they do not verify the details of this individual report.
The article does not name the original memory model or provide the motherboard, CPU, DDR generation, capacity, or other compatibility details. It therefore cannot support a recommendation for a particular replacement kit. For your own system, check the motherboard and CPU support information and match the required DDR generation and form factor before choosing capacity, speed, and timings.
