Why is Citi shortening its analyst program?
Citi is reducing its investment-banking analyst program from three years to two, according to a report by Fortune. The bank confirmed an internal memo through a spokesperson. The change also covers analysts already in their third year: they are due to be promoted on January 1 if they meet performance standards.

Earlier recruiting is part of the context, not a confirmed sole cause
Private-equity firms’ early pursuit of junior bankers is a prominent explanation for the change, but the reporting does not establish it as the only cause. Citi co-head of North America investment banking David Friedland criticized the timing. As quoted by Fortune from Bloomberg, he said: “The reality that private equity is interviewing so early in a banker’s career is very unfortunate and to some extent disappointing,” and, “It’s very hard to make a choice to go into another field in the first month you land on Wall Street.”
Fortune attributes a striking change in recruiting timing to executive search firm Odyssey Search Partners: private-equity recruiting typically began after about 11 months of junior bankers’ training in 2010, compared with less than a month by 2024. This is a comparison reported by Fortune, not a direct examination of Odyssey’s underlying study. Fortune also cites hiring experts who suggest AI adoption in investment banking could be another factor in shorter analyst pathways; that possibility is an interpretation, not a demonstrated reason for Citi’s decision.

What is the Boots deal?
Fairfax Financial Holdings announced on October 7, 2026 that it had entered into agreements with Wittington Investments, the Weston family’s private holding company, to acquire Boots. The deal has been agreed, but the announcement does not mean the acquisition has closed.

What is LIV Golf’s proposed lifeline?
LIV Golf is pursuing a restructuring and financing plan while in a US Chapter 11 proceeding in the District of New Jersey. On September 8, 2026, the league said it had entered a restructuring support agreement with BC Partners Credit and voluntarily commenced the bankruptcy case. The contemplated recapitalization would leave the reorganized company majority-owned by players, but that ownership structure is proposed rather than completed.

LIV said the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia had agreed to provide US$49.6 million in debtor-in-possession financing, subject to court approval, in its September 8 announcement. On October 5, BC Partners Credit announced an initial committed investment as the first part of targeted cumulative financing of US$300 million. The BC Partners financing is subject to bankruptcy court approval and customary conditions; the target should not be read as money already fully funded.

The league said it intended to emerge from the process in early 2027, subject to court and relevant stakeholder approval. Separately, the Associated Press reported that the financing would allow LIV to begin planning a 2027 season with ten tournaments, half at international sites. That is a reported plan, not a finalized official schedule. LIV’s FAQ says it intends to return to team competition in 2027 under new ownership, but says definitive schedule and individual event decisions have not been announced.
What ticket holders should know
LIV’s FAQ says pre-purchased tickets for 2027 events remain valid and are not eligible for refunds at this time. Because the season and its event details remain subject to approvals, ticket holders should follow direct league communications for updates.
