Circle has not announced that it hired DJ Khaled. According to Decrypt’s October 6, 2026 report, the USDC account posted a photo of Khaled in a Chelsea shirt branded “USDC by Circle,” and CEO Jeremy Allaire welcomed him to “team USDC.” Neither post announced a sponsorship, an ambassador role or any payment. The backlash came from Khaled’s history: in 2018 he settled with the SEC over an undisclosed paid crypto promotion.
What the posts said
Decrypt reports that the official USDC account shared a photo of Khaled wearing a Chelsea shirt with “USDC by Circle” on the front. The caption was “Another one.” About four hours later, Allaire reposted it with the message “DJ Khaled welcome to team USDC.” Decrypt describes the exchange as cheeky.

Nothing public says so. Based on Decrypt’s report, the posts did not mention a sponsorship, an ambassador role or money. That is not proof that no private arrangement exists. It means that calling this a confirmed endorsement deal goes beyond the evidence.
#1 Best Overall
- Established: the USDC account posted the image, and Allaire publicly welcomed Khaled to “team USDC.”
- Not established: any contract, fee, or defined role for Khaled, or why the image was made.
The Chelsea context
Decrypt says Chelsea is Circle’s front-of-shirt partner. It also says Khaled appeared at the club through a separate Roc Nation-related announcement in May. That explains why the shirt looks plausible. It does not show a Circle–Khaled commercial relationship, and it is context offered by Decrypt rather than verified proof of intent.
Why Crypto Twitter is angry
Critics linked the post to Khaled’s 2017 promotion of Centra Tech’s CTR token. Decrypt reports that they pointed to the SEC settlement over his failure to disclose that the promotion was paid. For many readers, a celebrity crypto plug without any disclosure looks like a repeat of that episode, even though a greeting is not an ad.

The SEC matter, in plain terms
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s April 3, 2018 order is the primary record. It concerns Khaled’s paid promotion of Centra Tech’s CTR tokens without disclosing his compensation.

| Payment for the post | $50,000 | U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, 2018 order |
| Total settlement payments | More than $150,000 | Decrypt, 2026 (reported total) |
The order supports the $50,000 payment and the enforcement terms. The higher total is Decrypt’s figure.

Was DJ Khaled charged with fraud?
No. The action against Khaled concerned not disclosing that he was paid, not a fraud charge against him. Decrypt notes this distinction explicitly. Allegations and outcomes involving Centra’s founders are a separate matter and should not be attributed to Khaled.

The story is days old. A formal announcement from Circle or Khaled, or a clarification of the relationship, would change the picture. Until then, the accurate description is a public welcome with no disclosed terms, set against a documented history of undisclosed paid promotion.
