PEEK fasteners are polymer screws, bolts, nuts, and related parts made from polyether ether ketone. They can be useful where a design needs a combination of heat or chemical resistance, electrical insulation, corrosion resistance, or lower weight than metal. But “PEEK” alone does not establish a fastener’s safe load or service limit: the exact resin grade, reinforcement, dimensions, joint design, tightening method, and operating conditions matter.
What PEEK fasteners are and where they are used
PEEK is a high-performance thermoplastic that can be manufactured into fasteners including screws, bolts, and nuts. Supplier product information lists hex-head and socket-head forms, among other offerings. The material is used in applications where a metal fastener’s weight, corrosion behavior, electrical properties, or interaction with the surrounding process may be a concern.

NBK identifies uses in flat-panel-display and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, printed-circuit-board etching, metal surface treatment, chemical plants, transformers, electrical and electronic equipment, and hot-water or chemical pumps. Junhua also describes aerospace, automotive, and electronics applications. These are examples of uses, not proof that every PEEK fastener or grade is suitable for every component in those industries.
How strong are PEEK screws?
There is no single tensile-strength figure for all PEEK fasteners. Manufacturer-reported resin and material values differ by grade, reinforcement, test method, and conditions. The figures below describe tested material properties; they are not allowable stresses or rated loads for a particular assembled fastener.

GF30 and CF30 denote glass-fiber- and carbon-fiber-reinforced variants in the cited grade comparisons. The reported figures show why grade matters: reinforcement can raise the listed tensile strength substantially while the Kureha comparison also reports much lower elongation than for unfilled PEEK. Do not transfer an unfilled grade’s properties to a reinforced fastener, or infer that the strongest listed material is automatically the best choice for a joint.
Why material strength is not a fastener rating
A screw’s performance depends on more than a resin coupon’s tensile strength. Thread size and form, head geometry, engagement, the part being clamped, installation torque, sustained load, temperature, and chemical exposure all influence the assembled joint. Junhua’s screw-and-nut page gives a natural-color PEEK tensile strength of 100 MPa under GB/T1040 at 23°C, and lists torque figures for M4 through M16; it explicitly describes those torque figures as ultimate breaking values and recommends a safety margin. They should not be treated as recommended installation torques.

Can PEEK screws handle high temperatures?
NBK lists 260°C as a heat-resistance value for the resin, not as a universal safe operating temperature for an assembled PEEK fastener. NBK cautions that a product’s operating temperature changes with performance conditions such as tightening torque. The actual limit therefore needs to be established for the selected fastener and joint over the full duty cycle, rather than inferred from a resin value alone.
When checking a high-temperature application, account for temperature during installation and operation, time at temperature, load, tightening method, and any temperature cycling. Ask the fastener supplier for product-specific limits and supporting data for the exact grade and geometry. A material data value by itself does not answer whether a particular screw will retain the required clamp or load in service.

Is PEEK resistant to chemicals?
PEEK can be selected for chemical-service applications, but chemical resistance is not universal. NBK identifies concentrated sulfuric, nitric, and hydrofluoric acids as exceptions to its broad resistance statement. Junhua also notes that acid and alkali resistance varies with conditions and advises testing under actual use conditions.
Evaluate the chemical identity and concentration, temperature, exposure duration, and whether exposure is continuous or intermittent. Include mixtures and cleaning agents in the assessment. For a critical application, confirm compatibility for the exact grade and fastener product with its supplier, and test under conditions that reflect the intended service.

How to choose a PEEK fastener
- Define the joint requirement. Determine the load, required clamp, fastener dimensions, thread engagement, head style, and consequences of loosening or failure. Do not use a resin tensile-strength value as the joint’s allowable load.
- Identify the precise material grade. Confirm whether the fastener is unfilled PEEK or a glass- or carbon-fiber-reinforced grade. Request the product’s own specifications; similarly named resin grades and test results are not interchangeable.
- Map the full service environment. Record operating and peak temperatures, temperature cycling, chemical concentration and duration, and any electrical insulation or conductivity requirements.
- Confirm installation guidance. Obtain product-specific tightening instructions and torque data. Treat values identified as ultimate breaking torque as failure information, not an installation recommendation.
- Check product-level evidence. Ask for data tied to the exact size, geometry, grade, and manufacturing route, plus any relevant limitations on sustained loading or service conditions.
- Validate where failure matters. For safety-critical or process-critical joints, test the selected fastener in a representative assembly and environment, with an appropriate engineering safety margin.
When PEEK may be a fit—and when it needs more scrutiny
- Consider it when the design needs a nonmetal fastener and the selected grade’s verified properties suit the load, temperature, chemical exposure, and electrical requirements.
- Examine reinforced grades carefully when higher listed tensile strength is attractive; the associated material behavior, including elongation, differs from unfilled PEEK.
- Require additional validation for concentrated-acid exposure, high temperatures, sustained or cyclic loads, or any joint where loss of clamp or failure has serious consequences.
- Compare with metal on the application, not by assuming PEEK is categorically superior. The relevant trade-off depends on the actual load, geometry, environment, weight, corrosion and electrical constraints, and product-level evidence.
