It is a foam mattress sold in different firmnesses and sizes by market, so the specifications of one listing do not describe every version. The public CHOICE page identifies its Australian test model as a firm queen, but keeps its performance results behind member access. That means the available public evidence can explain the mattress’s construction and care, but cannot support a verdict on how well it performs in testing.
Which ÅKREHAMN mattress was reviewed?
CHOICE identifies the model on its public review page as a firm, queen-size, roll-packed foam mattress. It lists dimensions of 202 × 152 × 20 cm and displays a price of A$899. That is an Australian listing snapshot accessed in 2026, not a current worldwide price or a reliable quote for another market. CHOICE’s review page

IKEA describes ÅKREHAMN as a 20 cm foam mattress with three comfort and support layers and five comfort zones intended to accommodate the hips and shoulders. The foam composition changes with the firmness variant: IKEA describes plush polyurethane foam above memory foam for a medium-firm version, while its firm version has a high-resilience foam top. Neither construction description establishes how the mattress will feel to every sleeper. IKEA Greece’s product listing

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
One medium-firm example
For its medium-firm 90 × 200 cm listing, IKEA specifies foam densities of 38 kg/m³ for plush polyurethane foam, 50 kg/m³ for memory foam, and 28 kg/m³ for polyurethane foam. It lists the mattress dimensions as 200 × 90 × 20 cm. These details belong to that Greek listing and should not be transferred to the firm queen model reviewed by CHOICE.
Cover and care
The same Greek listing says the cover is removable and machine-washable up to 60°C; follow the care label and instructions for the mattress sold in your region. IKEA lists recycled polyester in the cover textiles and polypropylene in the underside lining. It recommends using a mattress protector to help keep the mattress clean. IKEA’s product guidance

What does independent testing establish?
The public CHOICE page labels its Expert Rating and identifies the categories it assesses, including support when new and over time, support for different body sizes, stability, and sagging resistance. It also gates the detailed results and pros and cons to members. Because those findings are not publicly available on the page, there is no basis here to say that the tested ÅKREHAMN performed well or poorly in those categories.
IKEA says the mattress has been tested against the durability requirements of EN 1957 and the flammability requirements of EN 597-1. Those are manufacturer statements about standards testing; they are not comparative ratings and do not establish a specific lifespan. IKEA Greece’s product listing

What to expect after unboxing
IKEA says a roll-packed mattress can be used immediately, but takes about 72 hours to regain its full shape and comfort. Its general mattress instructions give a 3–4 day estimate for roll-packed products to regain full shape and size. These are IKEA’s estimates, not a performance guarantee. IKEA also notes that a sleeper may need a couple of weeks to adapt to a new mattress. IKEA mattress instructions

- Confirm the exact firmness. The firm CHOICE model and IKEA’s medium-firm example have different descriptions of their top foam layer; choose based on the local variant, not the family name alone.
- Check dimensions and compatibility. Compare the local mattress dimensions with your bed base, sheets, and protector. IKEA specifies a slatted bed base or slatted mattress base for the product.
- Weigh the evidence appropriately. The public information establishes specifications and care guidance, while CHOICE’s detailed support and sagging outcomes require member access.
- Verify local terms. Price, stock, delivery, returns, and guarantee wording vary by market. IKEA Greece lists a 10-year guarantee for the complete mattress subject to its guarantee terms; check the terms applying to your purchase location.
For comparison with another mattress, use like-for-like evidence: the same market and size, a clearly identified firmness variant, and published support and durability results. The available public information does not establish a best alternative.
