The Galaxy S25 Ultra is the better fit if you want an integrated S Pen, a sharper screen, a more versatile rear-camera array, or higher memory and storage options. The Galaxy S25 FE keeps a large 120Hz-class AMOLED display and Samsung’s published long-term software-support commitment, while launching at a much lower US starting price. Samsung’s launch prices differed by $650, but that compares announcements made months apart—not today’s prices.
What’s the difference between the S25 Ultra and S25 FE?
The biggest practical differences are the Ultra’s S Pen, higher-resolution display, two telephoto cameras, 12GB of memory, and broader storage range. The FE has one telephoto camera, 8GB of memory, and a lower US launch starting price. Both have large AMOLED displays with refresh rates up to 120Hz, 12MP front cameras, 45W wired charging, and Samsung-published support commitments of seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates.

These are Samsung’s published specifications, not a direct performance or camera-quality test. Display measurements are diagonal; usable screen area is smaller around rounded corners and camera openings. Samsung notes that storage availability can vary by region and carrier, so check the exact model number and configuration before buying. How much cheaper is the S25 FE?
At US launch, the S25 Ultra started at $1,299.99 and the S25 FE at $649.99—a $650 difference between their starting prices. Samsung Electronics America announced the Ultra on January 22, 2025; the FE became available September 4, 2025. Because the announcements were months apart and their base storage differs (256GB for the Ultra versus 128GB for the FE), this is neither a matched-storage comparison nor a current price gap. Samsung’s launch announcements list the Ultra starting price and FE starting price.
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, ultra‑bright up to ~2600 nits, HDR support, “Vision Booster,” and adaptive color tone — giving vivid colours, great outdoor visibility, and super‑smooth scrolling.
- Powerful internals: it runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3 nm) chip, with 12 GB (or in some markets up to 16 GB) RAM and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage — offering significantly improved CPU/GPU/NPU performance, especially for AI tasks, gaming, and heavy multitasking.
- Advanced quad‑camera system: 200 MP wide main sensor, plus a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto (5× optical zoom), and a 10 MP telephoto (3× optical zoom) — giving flexibility from ultra‑wide through detailed telephoto shots, and strong performance in varied lighting.
- 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast wired charging, wireless charging (Qi2) and reverse wireless charging — balancing long battery life with flexible charging options.
- Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).

Where does the Ultra make the biggest difference?
Camera reach and flexibility
The Ultra has a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide, and separate 5x and 3x optical telephoto cameras. The FE has a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide, and one 3x optical telephoto camera. That gives the Ultra an additional telephoto lens and greater listed optical reach. Megapixel counts and zoom specifications do not, by themselves, establish which phone takes better photos in a given situation.

Screen detail and size
The Ultra’s 6.9-inch panel has QHD+ resolution; the FE’s 6.7-inch panel is FHD+. Both offer a high-refresh AMOLED screen, so the FE still provides a large display, but the Ultra is larger and has the higher listed resolution.
S Pen and configurations
The S25 Ultra is the only one of these two phones with an integrated S Pen. The FE is not S Pen compatible, so it is not a substitute for handwriting, drawing, or other S Pen workflows. The Ultra also offers 12GB of memory and storage configurations up to 1TB, while the FE lists 8GB of memory and up to 256GB of storage.

What do battery, charging, and software support tell you?
The Ultra’s typical battery capacity is 5,000mAh and the FE’s is 4,900mAh. That small specification difference does not establish which lasts longer in real use; Samsung says battery life varies with network, usage, and other factors. Both list 45W wired charging, and Samsung’s stated test conditions describe charging to up to 65% in around 30 minutes. The 45W adapter is sold separately; use an approved charger and cable.
Samsung published seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for both phones. This is the manufacturer’s support commitment, not a promise that every future feature will arrive on both devices. Samsung’s specification pages provide the commitments for the Ultra and FE.

Is the S25 Ultra worth the extra money?
It may be worth paying more if you will use the integrated S Pen, prefer the sharper QHD+ panel, want the Ultra’s additional 5x telephoto camera, or need its 12GB memory and larger storage options. Those are concrete hardware differences; the specifications alone do not establish a universal performance, comfort, battery-life, or image-quality winner.
