Short answer: You can compare the two loyalty programs nationally, but you cannot fairly declare one chain cheaper without a location and a matched order. Chipotle’s 2026 relaunch emphasizes 10 points per $1, bonus reward drops, redemption choices and an annual activity rule. QDOBA awards one point per eligible $1, automatically turns 125 U.S. points (160 in Canada) into a free-entrée reward and gives that issued reward 60 days to expire. For food and price, use both chains’ current local ordering flows, hold the meal and extras constant, and compare pickup and delivery separately.

What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you

Chipotle and QDOBA occupy a similar fast-casual niche: customizable Mexican-style meals ordered at a counter or through digital channels. Both provide bowls, burritos and other entrées, but the exact menu, portion options, ingredients, promotions and prices can differ by restaurant and change over time. The official evidence available for this comparison does not establish a complete, current, location-by-location menu catalog or a national matched-basket price.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

That means a useful verdict has two parts. The rewards rules can be compared from the published U.S. and Canadian terms. The meal-value question requires your ZIP code, the day you order and the channel you use. A menu-board subtotal, an app pickup subtotal and a delivered checkout total are not interchangeable.

Menu: the common format, with local differences

Both chains are built around customization

At either restaurant, the practical decision starts with the entrée format you want—typically a bowl or burrito, with additional entrée choices available in the local ordering flow—then the protein, toppings and paid extras. This format lets two people create very different meals at the same chain, so comparing a plain bowl at one restaurant with a loaded burrito at the other will not answer a value question.

Use each chain’s own menu and order interface immediately before you buy. Those interfaces show which proteins, toppings, sides, drinks and limited-time items are available at the selected location. An item shown in a national announcement may not be offered at every restaurant, and an item visible in one city may be absent in another.

Digital ordering is part of the menu experience

Chipotle’s official site provides menu and ordering surfaces. QDOBA directs customers to its official menu and order flow; its app promotion says the app is where customers can find its best pricing and customization. Treat those statements as channel guidance, not a promise that every app price beats every in-store price. Select the same restaurant and order mode at both chains before you compare.

Limited-time items can change the answer

QDOBA’s June 16, 2026 seasonal announcement introduced Spicy Tequila Lime Steak and Churro Chips as limited-time items. It also described a Summer Rewards on Q promotion that ran from June 15 through July 26, 2026. That promotion window has ended; it is a useful example of menu and rewards turnover, not a current deal. If a seasonal item is the reason you are choosing a chain, confirm that it is still listed for your selected restaurant and date.

How to compare prices without a misleading national claim

No official, comparable location-specific price pair was established for this article. QDOBA’s terms say prices are in U.S. dollars and may change without notice, and warn that third-party delivery can carry higher menu prices or additional fees. Chipotle’s delivery disclosures likewise warn that delivery prices and fees can differ, with jurisdiction-specific exceptions. Those policies make a single national statement such as “Chain A is cheaper” unreliable.

Chipotle Physical Gift Card
  • Physical gift cards are delivered active via mail.
  • Redeem online and in stores at any Chipotle location.
  • This item is not eligible for refund, resale, or return.
  • No fees will be applied to the gift card after purchase (including dormancy, service or other fees). Funds do not expire but your gift card may have a ‘valid thru’ date. If funds remain after this date has passed, please call Chipotle customer service for a replacement card.
  • Do not provide any card or account details (example: Gift Card Number, Expiration Date, or CVV) to someone you do not know or trust. There are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards. Double check websites before entering details online. A matched-basket test you can repeat

  1. Choose a location. Enter the same city or ZIP code in both official order flows. Record the restaurant names and the date, because nearby locations can have different menus or prices.
  2. Pick one entrée format. Compare bowl with bowl or burrito with burrito. Do not switch formats simply because one chain displays a different default build.
  3. Match the protein. Select the closest equivalent protein at each chain. If an exact equivalent is unavailable, note the difference instead of pretending the meals are identical.
  4. Match included toppings. Add the same number and type of free toppings where the menus permit it. Record any topping that is unavailable or treated as a paid extra at one chain.
  5. Match paid add-ons. Include extras such as premium proteins, guacamole, queso, double portions, sides or drinks only when you add the corresponding item to both carts. If an add-on has no equivalent, list it separately.
  6. Record pickup first. Write down the item subtotal, taxes and any pickup charge. This isolates menu pricing from delivery economics.
  7. Run delivery as a separate test. Use the same address and delivery mode at both chains. Capture menu subtotal, service fee, delivery fee, small-order fee, taxes, tip and total at checkout. Never compare one chain’s pickup subtotal with the other’s delivered total.
  8. Save the observation date. Prices, fees and promotional discounts are volatile. A dated screenshot or written cart record makes the result reproducible without implying that it is a permanent national price.

If the carts are not genuinely equivalent, report the difference rather than forcing a winner. A higher total may reflect a premium protein, an extra topping, a delivery markup or a fee rather than a higher base entrée price.

Rewards at a glance

Feature Chipotle Rewards (2026 relaunch) QDOBA Rewards
Published earning rate 10 points per $1 spent 1 point per eligible $1
Reward conversion Expanded redemption choices; a single universal threshold is not stated in the relaunch announcement Automatic free-entrée reward at 125 points in the U.S. or 160 points in Canada
Issued-reward expiry Birthday reward has a 30-day redemption window; other reward expirations depend on the applicable offer Issued free-entrée reward expires after 60 days
Keeping points active At least one qualifying purchase per year keeps points active See current terms for point and account conditions; the 60-day rule applies to the issued reward
Status tier No comparable visit tier is stated in the relaunch announcement Gold Status requires 12 qualifying visits in one calendar year
Geography U.S. and Canada, except Quebec U.S. and Canada thresholds differ; participating-location and eligibility exceptions apply
Bonus features Monthly bonus reward drops and a member-selected birthday reward Promotions vary; the 2026 Summer Rewards on Q window ended July 26, 2026

The point numbers are not an apples-to-apples score. Chipotle’s 10 points per dollar cannot be judged against QDOBA’s one point per dollar without knowing what each point balance can buy, how rewards are issued and how long they remain usable.

Chipotle Rewards: what the 2026 relaunch changes

Who can use it

Chipotle’s April 13, 2026 investor-relations announcement says the relaunched program is available in the United States and Canada except Quebec. If you live in Quebec or are ordering through a nonparticipating channel, check the current local terms before relying on the national description.

How points and bonuses work

The published earning rate is 10 points for every $1 spent. The relaunch also describes monthly bonus reward drops, expanded reward-exchange choices and a birthday reward that the member selects. The birthday reward has a 30-day redemption window, so claiming it and using it are separate actions; do not assume it remains available indefinitely.

Rank #3
Chipotle Physical Gift Card
  • Redemption: Instore and Online
  • No returns and no refunds on gift cards.

Chipotle says points stay active when the member makes at least one qualifying purchase per year. That is an activity requirement, not a guarantee that every promotional point or issued reward shares the same expiration rule. Read the offer-specific terms attached to a bonus before you let it accumulate.

How to judge the program

Chipotle is potentially attractive to a member who values frequent bonus drops, a choice of birthday reward or flexibility in exchanging points. The useful question is not “How fast do I earn points?” but “Which reward can I redeem, after the terms and expiry window, for the way I actually order?”

Membership statistic and its limits

Chipotle reported 21 million active members in its 2026 relaunch announcement. That is a company-reported membership figure, not an independent measure of customer satisfaction, redemption value or savings. It indicates the scale of the program, not that an individual member will receive a particular return.

QDOBA Rewards: thresholds, expiry and Gold Status

Earning and automatic conversion

QDOBA’s current rewards information states that members earn one point per eligible $1. In the United States, 125 points automatically convert into a free-entrée reward; in Canada, the threshold is 160 points. With no bonus points and no excluded purchases, that corresponds to 125 or 160 eligible dollars of spending, respectively, before the reward is issued. Eligible-dollar definitions and exceptions in the terms control the actual calculation.

Rank #4
To make sure customers are aware of potential scams that may involve asking for payment using gift cards, click on the ‘Be Informed’ tab above to learn more.

Because conversion is automatic, a member does not hold an unlimited bank of points to exchange among many reward types in the same way a choice-based system might work. Watch the account for the conversion and plan the visit before the resulting reward expires.

The 60-day clock

QDOBA states that the issued reward expires after 60 days. The expiry applies to the free-entrée reward once it has been created, so earning the threshold and using the reward are two different deadlines. Participating locations and qualifying transactions are subject to the published terms.

Gold Status

QDOBA Gold Status requires 12 qualifying visits in one calendar year. A visit-based tier may matter more than point speed for someone who makes frequent smaller orders, but qualifying-visit definitions, exclusions and participating restaurants still apply. Confirm that a planned order will count before using it to chase status.

Which rewards program is better for your ordering pattern?

Your priority What to examine Why the answer is conditional
Fast point accumulation Compare the published earning rates with the actual redemption options Points have different thresholds, values and restrictions
A predictable free entrée QDOBA’s automatic 125-point U.S. or 160-point Canadian conversion The reward still has eligibility rules and a 60-day expiry
Choice at redemption Chipotle’s expanded reward-exchange choices The relaunch announcement does not give one universal exchange table
Birthday benefits Chipotle’s member-selected birthday reward It must be redeemed within 30 days
Frequent visits QDOBA’s 12-visit Gold Status requirement Only qualifying visits count and the period resets each calendar year
Cross-border ordering Chipotle’s Quebec exclusion and QDOBA’s country-specific thresholds Country, province and participating-location terms can change the result

For a fair personal calculation, list your normal monthly spend, number of visits, preferred reward and realistic redemption window. Then apply the current terms. Someone who visits often but spends little per order may care about visits; someone who places larger orders may care about points per dollar and redemption choices.

How promotions and menu turnover affect value

Promotions can temporarily change the best choice without changing the underlying program. QDOBA’s Summer Rewards on Q campaign, announced for June 15–July 26, 2026, is already over. Similar future promotions should be treated as dated offers with their own qualifying actions and expiration dates, not as permanent features of QDOBA Rewards.

Chipotle’s monthly bonus reward drops are described as an ongoing relaunch feature, but each drop can have its own activation or redemption terms. Open the offer in your account and read those conditions before counting the bonus toward a price comparison.

Common comparison mistakes—and the fix

  • Using an old menu screenshot: Reopen both official menus for the selected restaurant and date.
  • Comparing different builds: Match entrée format, protein, toppings and paid extras before looking at totals.
  • Mixing channels: Compare pickup with pickup and delivery checkout with delivery checkout.
  • Calling one chain nationally cheaper: Publish the ZIP code, date and cart details instead of an unsupported national average.
  • Ranking points by the headline number: Compare the reward you can actually redeem, its threshold and its expiration.
  • Confusing points with issued rewards: Chipotle’s annual activity rule and QDOBA’s 60-day issued-reward clock govern different stages of the process.
  • Treating a limited-time item as permanent: Verify that the item remains in the local menu before recommending it.
  • Assuming every restaurant participates: Read location and eligibility exceptions in the current terms.

A practical decision framework

Choose Chipotle when your priority is reward flexibility

Chipotle is the more logical starting point if you value a higher stated points-per-dollar rate, monthly bonus drops, a member-selected birthday reward or expanded exchange choices. Confirm the current offer terms and remember the Quebec exclusion when ordering in Canada.

Choose QDOBA when a fixed entrée milestone fits your routine

QDOBA may fit better if you prefer an automatic free-entrée conversion at a clearly stated point threshold or if 12 qualifying visits make Gold Status realistic for you. Plan the redemption inside the 60-day window and verify that your location and purchase qualify.

Choose by the local cart when price is the deciding factor

If your main concern is what dinner costs tonight, loyalty design should come after the matched-basket test. Use the local pickup subtotal and the separate delivery checkout total, include every paid extra, and record the date. That method answers your actual purchase question without pretending that a volatile local price is a national fact.

What to verify before publishing or ordering

  • Selected restaurant, city or ZIP code and observation date.
  • Current entrée, protein, topping, side and drink availability.
  • Pickup subtotal and delivery checkout total shown by the same channel type.
  • Current reward balance, qualifying-dollar definition and any active offer terms.
  • Chipotle program availability outside Quebec and the birthday reward’s 30-day window.
  • QDOBA’s country threshold, 60-day reward expiry, Gold Status rules and participating-location exceptions.
  • Whether a seasonal item or promotion has ended before you describe it as available.

Bottom line

There is no evidence-based national price winner between Chipotle and QDOBA. Match the same local order and channel to discover which gives you better value today. On rewards, Chipotle publishes 10 points per $1 plus bonus drops, birthday choice and expanded exchanges, while QDOBA publishes one point per eligible $1, automatic free-entrée conversion at 125 U.S. or 160 Canadian points, a 60-day reward expiry and a 12-visit Gold tier. Your ordering frequency, preferred reward and location determine which system is more useful.
