Yes, Chinese emergency services have demonstrated quadruped robots connected to fire hoses, but the best-documented example was a training exercise—not proof that a robot dog extinguished a live blaze. A 20 June 2025 drill in Chengdu showed a firefighting robot from Sichuan Embodied Humanoid Robotics Technology Co., Ltd. with an interface linked to a hose. The same exercise used a separate drone for the high-rise exterior water-cannon demonstration. Reports from Qingdao and Changsha describe other robots and equipment; they should not be merged into one clip or one model.
What happened in the documented Chengdu demonstration?
The China National Radio report published 21 June 2025 describes an emergency exercise held on 20 June in Chengdu High-Tech Zone. A quadruped firefighting robot made by Sichuan Embodied Humanoid Robotics Technology Co., Ltd. had an interface connected to a fire hose, and the report says it could conduct on-site suppression.

That wording establishes a drill capability, not a verified live-fire result. In the high-rise scenario, the visible high-pressure water cannon operating outside the building was mounted on a separate drone. The report does not identify the hose diameter, pump pressure, water source, robot model number, or any measured suppression outcome.

The Chengdu account confirms a hose-connected interface but does not publish a mechanical diagram. Consequently, the precise coupling, hose diameter, pressure rating, and whether the robot carries a nozzle or only positions a hose are unknown. A hose-fed design can leave the water supply on the ground while the quadruped carries or aims the terminal equipment; that is different from a self-contained water tank. Do not assume every robot dog shown with sensors also has this water-delivery module.

Reconnaissance and suppression are different jobs
Fire-service quadrupeds can be configured for inspection and communications rather than firefighting. The reported equipment spans several roles:
- Reconnaissance: cameras, lidar or mapping, thermal imaging, and gas detection let a remote operator inspect smoke-filled, toxic, oxygen-deficient, unstable, or inaccessible areas.
- Rescue support: video and sensor data can help crews decide where to enter or search, without sending a person first.
- Suppression: a hose-fed or cannon-equipped module delivers water or foam, but its effectiveness depends on the pump, hose management, nozzle, battery, terrain, and operator control.
- Monitoring: robots can patrol or relay conditions during an incident or training evolution.
The cited reports contain no independent, controlled performance trial, casualty reduction study, or statistic showing that robot dogs put out fires faster or save more lives.

What Qingdao and Changsha reports actually say
Qingdao: equipment added, still being tested
A government-hosted report credited to China National Radio on 28 February 2025 says two quadrupeds were formally added to the Qingdao Fire and Rescue Support Team. It lists 360-degree cameras, gas sensing, dual-light thermal imaging, remote control, and exercises in garages, stairwells, and simulated collapse scenes. A Qingdao officer described the robots as still undergoing testing. Those statements are service-reported tests, not independent validation, and the report does not establish that these dogs are the hose-equipped Chengdu machine.

Changsha: a Jueying X30 for reconnaissance
The same report says Changsha received a Jueying X30. It attributes a stated operating range of −20°C to 55°C and a top speed of 5 m/s to that robot, and describes reconnaissance, mapping, gas sensing, and thermal imaging. These specifications and duties belong to the Changsha X30 account; they cannot be transferred to the Chengdu firefighting dog without model-specific evidence.

What Unitree says about water-cannon configurations
Unitree’s fire-rescue page describes modular industrial quadruped configurations, including water/foam equipment and a high-temperature drencher system. For its described water-cannon configuration, Unitree states:

These are manufacturer figures for a specified configuration, not measured results for every robot dog used by Chinese fire services. Unitree also says certain inspection, water-cannon, and air-blower robots are sold only to countries and regions meeting stated conditions; buyers must verify the exact model, region, and current availability. The same page says two B2 quadrupeds joined Qingdao’s support team and lists a 360-degree camera, dual-light platform, gas sensor, and industrial remote controller. That broadly matches the government-hosted Qingdao account, but neither source is a controlled performance study.

Are the robots being used at real fires?
The cited Chengdu event was explicitly an emergency exercise. The Qingdao report describes equipment addition and testing, while the Changsha passage describes operational assistance and reconnaissance but does not document a particular live-fire deployment. The exact video or incident implied by the title is not identified in the available reporting, so its model, manufacturer, location, hose setup, and whether a live fire was involved remain unverified.

Thermal cameras, gas sensors, lighting, and two-way video can give crews information before entry into a potentially toxic, oxygen-poor, smoke-filled, or structurally damaged space.

Access over difficult ground
Quadruped locomotion is intended for stairs, debris, garages, and other areas that may defeat wheeled platforms. The Qingdao report describes testing in those kinds of environments; it does not publish an independent success rate.
Remote water delivery when configured for it
A hose-connected module can keep the pump and bulk water supply off the robot. A cannon configuration may add directional control, but the robot still depends on hose routing, pressure, communications, power, and a trained operator. No source here establishes endurance, flow under field conditions, or suppression time.
Numbers that provide context—not proof of robot effectiveness
The National Forestry and Grassland Administration, citing China Green Times, reports 292 forest fires in China during 2024, 10.98% fewer than in 2023, and three grassland fires, 80% fewer than in 2023. Those are national fire counts; they do not show that robots caused the reduction or measure lives, property, or fires saved by robotic systems.

How to evaluate a viral robot-dog firefighting clip
- Identify the date, city, agency, and whether the event is labeled a drill, test, or incident.
- Check whether the water stream comes from the quadruped, a separate drone, or a conventional handline outside the frame.
- Find the model and manufacturer before applying specifications from Unitree, Jueying, or another platform.
- Separate sensor demonstrations from suppression demonstrations; cameras and gas detectors do not imply a water cannon.
- Look for test conditions, independent measurements, and outcomes rather than relying on a promotional flow or range figure.
On the evidence available, the defensible conclusion is that hose-equipped quadrupeds are being demonstrated and tested as specialist emergency tools. They complement human crews and other drones; they are not yet documented here as autonomous replacements or proven fire-extinguishing systems.
