China Construction Bank (CCB) reported group net profit of RMB171.677 billion for the six months ended 30 June 2026, up 5.56% year on year. That is growth in the bank’s reported profit—not a 5.56% return on its shares. Profit attributable to the Bank’s equity shareholders rose 4.62%.
What CCB’s 5.56% profit growth means
The 5.56% figure is the year-on-year increase in CCB Group net profit: RMB171,677 million for the first half of 2026, compared with RMB162,638 million in the first half of 2025. The bank announced its interim results on 28 August 2026; its half-year report, covering the six months ended 30 June, was posted on 28 September 2026. CCB’s 2026 half-year report is the primary source for the financial-statement figures.

The headline does not describe CCB’s stock-price performance. CCB identifies its Shanghai shares as 601939 and its Hong Kong shares as 00939, but the earnings report does not establish either share’s current price, valuation or investment suitability. CCB’s results release provides the share codes.

Source: CCB’s 2026 half-year report. The shareholder-attributable profit figure was RMB162,076 million in the first half of 2025; profit before tax was RMB182,442 million. CCB’s report gives both growth rates, so the 5.56% headline should not be substituted for the 4.62% shareholder-attributable figure.
What CCB says drove the increase
Interest income benefited from scale and margin stabilisation
Net interest income—the difference between interest earned and interest paid—rose 8.46% to RMB310,958 million. CCB said business-scale growth and stabilisation of net interest margin contributed to the increase. That is the bank’s explanation of its reported result, not independent evidence that any single factor caused the full increase.
Rank #2
CCB reported a net interest margin of 1.37%. Its 28 August results release said this was 1 basis point above the first quarter of 2026 and 3 basis points above the 2025 full-year level. These comparisons are to different periods: the quarter-on-quarter comparison is with 2026 Q1, while the other is against the full-year 2025 figure. CCB’s results release gives the margin and comparisons.
Non-interest income rose, while fees fell
Net non-interest income grew 16.31% to RMB115,375 million. CCB linked the increase to improved comprehensive financial service capabilities and its capture of market opportunities. The reported total does not mean every component increased: net fee and commission income fell 1.42% to RMB64,289 million.
Higher impairment losses offset part of the growth
Credit impairment losses increased 20.79% to RMB130,028 million. This is a material counterweight when assessing the profit result. A rise in net profit by itself does not show whether credit quality improved or deteriorated; impairment charges and non-performing loans provide separate information about risk.
What the report says about asset quality and capital
CCB reported a non-performing loan ratio of 1.29%, down 0.02 percentage points from the prior year-end. Its allowance-to-NPL ratio was 238.69%, up 5.54 percentage points. The release also reported a total capital adequacy ratio of 19.42% and a core tier-1 capital adequacy ratio of 14.24%. These are selected balance-sheet and regulatory indicators, not a substitute for reviewing the full report. CCB’s 28 August 2026 results release gives these figures.
Rank #4
CCB’s proposed interim dividend
CCB’s board proposed an interim cash dividend of RMB2.010 per 10 shares, tax inclusive, for 2026. The proposed total was about RMB52.582 billion, corresponding to a 31.0% proposed payout ratio. The proposal was to be submitted to a shareholders’ meeting for deliberation; the results release does not say it was already approved or paid. CCB’s 28 August 2026 release states the proposal.

The earnings figures describe business performance over a six-month reporting period. They do not, on their own, determine whether CCB shares are cheap, likely to rise, or appropriate for a particular investor. A meaningful comparison with another bank should use the same reporting duration and accounting basis, and match profit definitions—group net profit against group net profit, or shareholder-attributable profit against the equivalent measure.
