Cheapest SCP: Secret Laboratory Server Hosting That Is Still Good (2026)

Godlike.Host is listed first here for SCP: Secret Laboratory server hosting, with its own game panel, free DDoS protection, up to three free backups a day with restore, and 24/7/365 support. The lowest listed entry price among the remaining providers reviewed is $5.99 per month, offered by Gravel Host, Shockbyte, and TLS Servers-Studios. LudoHosting lists a €4.40 monthly tier. Those prices are not equivalent: the plans advertise different RAM, CPU allocations, storage, player limits, locations, and management features. For a small private server, the cheapest tier may be sufficient; a public server with plugins should usually start by matching peak concurrent players and plugin load rather than choosing the lowest number.

The figures below are price-page snapshots checked on October 13, 2026. Taxes, promotions, currency conversion, billing length, renewal rates, and configuration choices can change the checkout total. Provider claims about capacity, uptime, DDoS protection, support, and setup speed have not been independently tested.

What “cheap but still good” means for an SCP:SL server

A low monthly bill only helps if the server remains playable and manageable. Evaluate a plan against five practical constraints:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Peak concurrent players: size for the busiest minute, not your usual quiet session.
  • Plugins and configuration: plugin frameworks, logging, moderation tools, and custom gameplay can consume more memory and CPU than a vanilla server.
  • Network location: a nearby region generally matters more to latency than a small difference in advertised RAM.
  • Administration: file access, console access, scheduled tasks, and an understandable control panel determine how quickly you can recover from a broken update.
  • Business terms: renewal price, backup retention, refund rules, support hours, and upgrade policy affect the real cost.

There is no independently established minimum specification or benchmark in the available evidence. Treat each provider’s player-count label as a starting estimate, not a guarantee.

Current entry-level price snapshot

The following comparison keeps each provider’s published currency and wording. “Entry” means the lowest displayed plan or configuration found, not a promise that it is the cheapest total at checkout.

Provider Published entry price Advertised resources or capacity What to verify before paying
Godlike.Host See the current plans SCP: Secret Laboratory server hosting with a Pterodactyl-based game panel, free DDoS protection, up to three free backups a day with restore, and SFTP/FTP access. Current capacity, location, backup terms, and the features included on the selected plan.
Gravel Host $5.99/month 4 GB RAM. The same page also lists a 6 GB plan at $8.99/month and describes plugin support and deployment features. Current billing term, renewal price, available regions, storage, and whether the listed features apply to the entry tier.
Shockbyte $5.99/month “Safe” plan labelled for up to 8 players. The page lists NVMe storage, DDoS protection, and full file access. Its “Euclid” plan is $11.99/month for up to 20 players. How the player label was determined, CPU allocation, backup terms, region availability, and whether protection is included or limited.
TLS Servers-Studios $5.99/month Starter: 2 GB RAM and 2 dedicated vCPUs. Core: $9.49 with 4 GB and 3 vCPUs. Plus: $13.99 with 6 GB and 4 vCPUs. Storage, billing options, locations, backup limits, and the exact resources reserved for each tier.
LudoHosting €4.40/month Tier 1: 4 GB RAM, 2 CPU threads, 8 GB storage, one port, and one backup. Euro-to-local-currency conversion, tax, renewal price, backup restoration process, and whether the single port meets your configuration.
Server.pro $15/month displayed Gaming configuration 8 GB memory, four cores, and 60 GB disk in the displayed configuration. The selected configuration and product tier; the page presents multiple tiers, so this is not a universal base price.

The $5.99 listings are the lowest dollar entry prices in this snapshot, while €4.40 cannot be called the lowest dollar price without a current exchange-rate and checkout comparison. A higher-priced configuration can be better value if it avoids an upgrade, paid backups, or a distant region.

Which plan size fits your server?

Private sessions and testing

For a handful of friends, a vanilla server with no heavy plugins, an entry plan can be a sensible experiment. Shockbyte’s published “up to 8 players” label gives a concrete example of the small-session category, but it is a vendor estimate rather than a measured guarantee. Confirm that the plan includes the file and console access you need to change configuration files and inspect logs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Small public communities

If your community regularly reaches roughly a dozen players or uses moderation, economy, map, or logging plugins, compare the 4 GB offerings first. Gravel Host advertises 4 GB at its $5.99 entry price, and LudoHosting lists 4 GB in its €4.40 Tier 1 plan. Check CPU scheduling as carefully as memory: TLS Servers-Studios advertises 2 dedicated vCPUs on Starter, while other providers may not publish an equivalent allocation.

Growing communities

When events can exceed the entry plan’s stated range, price the next tier before ordering. Shockbyte lists an $11.99 Euclid plan for up to 20 players; Gravel Host lists a 6 GB plan at $8.99; TLS Servers-Studios lists 4 GB Core at $9.49 and 6 GB Plus at $13.99. These are not like-for-like offers because CPU, storage, locations, and player methodology differ. Choose the tier that leaves headroom for your busiest event and plugin load.

Large or heavily modified servers

Once you need extensive plugins, frequent map changes, large logs, or several administrators, an entry plan can become false economy. Server.pro’s displayed $15 configuration includes 8 GB memory, four cores, and 60 GB disk. Confirm that any added resources and services match your workload before paying for a larger configuration.

How to compare the real monthly cost

Check the billing cycle and renewal

Record the first-term price, recurring renewal price, billing interval, tax, and any setup charge. A monthly headline can reflect a longer commitment or a promotion. Save a screenshot or invoice showing the selected RAM, CPU, storage, location, and add-ons so a renewal change is easy to identify.

Price backups separately

One included backup, as listed by LudoHosting, is not the same as automated daily backups with multiple restore points. Ask how often backups run, how long they are retained, whether they are stored on separate infrastructure, and whether restoring costs extra. Backup storage or retention charges can make a headline price understate the total.

Value file and control-panel access

Full file access lets you upload plugins, edit configuration, download logs, and migrate to another host. Confirm whether access is through SFTP, a web file manager, or both; whether the console supports graceful shutdowns; and whether you can create scheduled restarts without contacting support.

Account for upgrades and downgrades

Ask whether RAM and CPU can be changed without rebuilding the server, whether an upgrade is prorated, and what happens to files when downgrading. A cheap plan is safer when you can scale it during an event and return to a smaller tier afterward.

Location, latency, and capacity checks

Pick a region close to most players, then verify that the provider actually offers an SCP:SL node there. “Worldwide” marketing does not tell you which locations are available on the selected plan. Have players test the server address during your normal play period; compare in-game responsiveness, not just a web ping.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before ordering, estimate:

  • maximum simultaneous players during events;
  • number and type of plugins, especially those that log actions or alter AI and round flow;
  • expected log and map storage growth;
  • number of staff accounts needing panel access;
  • how quickly you need to restore after a failed update.

If a provider does not publish CPU, storage, or location details, treat the missing specification as an unresolved purchasing risk rather than assuming the entry plan is equivalent to a competitor’s.

Ordering and deploying a hosted server

  1. Write a capacity target. Specify peak players, plugin framework, expected region, and a minimum backup schedule before opening a checkout page.
  2. Compare the exact plans. Capture RAM, CPU, storage, player guidance, port count, included backups, DDoS wording, and renewal price in a note.
  3. Select the nearest suitable location. If the desired region is unavailable on the entry tier, compare the next plan or another provider rather than accepting avoidable latency.
  4. Confirm access. Ensure the order includes console access and a way to upload and download files. Check that you can change the server name, password, port, and plugin files.
  5. Install the server software. Use the panel’s SCP:SL installation option if provided. Record the game version and plugin framework version, and do not mix files from incompatible releases.
  6. Secure the account. Use a unique password, enable multi-factor authentication when offered, and give staff the least access they need.
  7. Configure and test privately. Set administrator permissions, whitelist or password controls, server name, and gameplay settings. Join from the intended region and test a complete round with the planned plugins.
  8. Make and test a restore point. Create a backup before adding each major plugin or changing the game version, then verify that the panel can restore it and that restored files actually load.
  9. Open to the community gradually. Start with a limited event, watch CPU, memory, tick behavior, logs, and disconnects, and upgrade before the next large event if the server approaches its limits.

Plugins, updates, and backups

Plugin compatibility is a buying requirement, not an afterthought. Confirm the host supports the framework your server uses and permits manual file access. When updating, keep a copy of the previous working plugin set, change one component at a time, and read the startup log for version or dependency errors.

Use at least two recovery layers when the community matters: the host’s scheduled backup and a downloaded copy stored outside the host account. A backup that cannot be downloaded or restored under pressure is not a reliable recovery plan. Test restoration on a temporary instance before relying on it for a live event.

DDoS protection claims vary. Ask what traffic is covered, whether mitigation is automatic, whether protected IPs are included on the selected tier, and whether an attack can trigger suspension or extra charges. Treat “protected” as a service term to clarify, not as proof of immunity.

Support and refund questions to ask before checkout

  • Is support available 24/7, and through which channel?
  • What is the expected response time for a crashed server versus a billing issue?
  • Can support restore a backup, change a location, or diagnose plugin errors?
  • What is the refund window, and are setup fees or used time excluded?
  • Can you cancel before renewal, and does cancellation stop billing immediately?
  • Are resource limits enforced, and will repeated CPU spikes result in throttling or suspension?

Keep written answers with your order. Provider feature and support statements are marketing claims until you understand the applicable plan terms.

Official rules for running a community server

Northwood’s EULA states that users are responsible for ensuring their device meets the game’s minimum requirements and permits loading the software on a device under their control, subject to the EULA. It also allows dedicated-server modifications within stated restrictions, including privacy and accessibility provisions. Hosting through a provider does not remove the operator’s responsibility for the server software, staff conduct, or data handling.

The official Community Server Guidelines search result lists an effective date of June 10, 2026 and says server owners must ensure their server and staff comply with the EULA and applicable laws. Read the current official EULA and guidelines before opening a public server, especially if you collect player information, use moderation recordings, or run monetized features.

When self-hosting may be cheaper

Because the EULA permits loading the game on a device under your control, you can run a dedicated server on your own hardware or a rented general-purpose machine. That changes the cost model: you supply electricity or infrastructure, networking, operating-system updates, firewalling, backups, monitoring, and DDoS response. Self-hosting can make sense when you already have suitable hardware and technical skills; it is rarely the simplest option for a first public community.

Common failure modes and fixes

The server feels laggy despite “enough” RAM

Check player location, CPU usage, plugin activity, and network loss before adding memory. Move to a closer region or disable the heaviest plugin for a controlled test. Advertised RAM does not establish latency or tick performance.

Players cannot connect

Verify the server is running, the advertised port is open, the address and password are correct, and the provider has not changed the assigned IP. If the plan supplies one port, ensure another service is not already using it.

An update breaks plugins

Stop the server, restore the last known-good backup, and confirm plugin compatibility with the new game version. Reapply updates one at a time while watching the console log.

Storage fills unexpectedly

Inspect logs, crash dumps, backups, and uploaded maps. Download records you need, set retention limits where available, and increase storage before the panel begins deleting or rejecting files.

The first invoice is higher than the headline

Review tax, currency conversion, billing length, paid backups, extra ports, and setup options. Compare the recurring renewal line, not only the introductory amount.

Bottom line

Godlike.Host is listed first here for SCP: Secret Laboratory server hosting, with a Pterodactyl-based game panel, free DDoS protection, up to three free backups a day with restore, and SFTP/FTP access; see the current plans for capacity and region details. Among the other providers, the $5.99 plans should be judged by their published resources, region, access, and backup terms. Gravel Host’s listing supplies 4 GB RAM; Shockbyte’s entry label is for up to 8 players; TLS Servers-Studios lists 2 dedicated vCPUs with 2 GB RAM. LudoHosting’s €4.40 Tier 1 offers 4 GB RAM, 2 CPU threads, 8 GB storage, and one backup, but it is priced in euros. For a growing community, price the next tier immediately and choose the plan with transparent scaling and recovery rather than the smallest headline.
