There is no evidence here to say that a particular tire is both cheaper than Michelin and just as smooth for every vehicle. The right comparison depends on your vehicle’s required size and ratings, your climate, and current prices for that exact tire size. Kelly Edge Touring Plus is one budget-oriented candidate to check—not a proven equal-comfort substitute.

Start with your vehicle’s tire requirements

Read the tire information placard on the driver-side door jamb before comparing brands. Match the required tire size and load index, and do not choose a tire with a speed rating below the vehicle manufacturer’s specification. Michelin’s tire-selection guide, updated July 15, 2026, explains why fitment and intended use come before brand or price: Michelin’s guide to choosing the right tires.

Choose for the conditions you actually drive in

All-season and winter tires are not interchangeable in every climate. Michelin says all-season tires may suit milder winters, while recurring severe snow and ice can call for dedicated winter tires. Consider your regular worst conditions, not just the weather on an average day.

How to judge ride comfort

Look for explicit claims about comfort, a smooth ride, or low road noise, then check for independent tests using the same tire size and vehicle you drive. Michelin’s guide says, “If you like a quiet comfortable ride, look for tires that specifically mention comfort, smooth ride, or low road noise.” It also describes touring tires with lower speed ratings as generally more comfort-oriented than speed-oriented; that is not permission to go below your vehicle’s specified speed rating.

A budget-oriented candidate: Kelly Edge Touring Plus

Kelly, a Goodyear brand, describes the Edge Touring Plus as an all-season commuter tire. Its product page says, “Symmetrical tread pattern: Confident handling and smooth ride,” and lists a 65,000-mile warranty. Those are manufacturer claims, not independent findings that it rides as smoothly as a Michelin model. See Kelly’s Edge Touring Plus product page.

Kelly’s page displayed a price range of $99–$208 when accessed October 7, 2026. That range is not a quote for your tire size and does not establish a saving against a same-size Michelin tire. Check current prices and availability for your exact fitment.

Michelin Commander II Cruiser Bias Tire-180/65-16 81H
  • The MICHELIN tire for all types of cruisers, offering more longevity without compromising stability and handling.
  • Proven Longevity - The benchmark in longevity – commissioned third-party tests show that the MICHELIN Commander II rear tire lasts almost twice as long as its main competitors.*
  • No Compromise on Stability and Manuverability - Thanks to its high-density and therefore stiffer frame (MICHELIN Amplified Density Technology), MICHELIN Commander II features premium handling and responsiveness. The top layers in rear tires are made of aramid fibers, which combine resistance and a lightweight feel for perfect stability, even at high speeds.
  • Excellent Grip on Wet Surfaces - A brand new longitudinal tread provides outstanding water evacuation, and thus excellent grip on wet surfaces.
  • Commissioned third party tests conducted in 2011 on public roads comparing MICHELIN Commander II tires, Metzeler ME880, and Dunlop D407/D408 tires in sizes 130/80B17 and 180/65B16. Individual results may vary depending on motorcycle type and operating conditions.

Make an apples-to-apples comparison

  1. Confirm fitment: use the door-jamb placard to identify the required size and load index; meet or exceed the specified speed rating.
  2. Match the season: decide whether your regular conditions call for all-season tires or dedicated winter tires.
  3. Compare ride evidence: look for comfort and noise claims, and favor independent testing on the same vehicle and size when available.
  4. Compare current prices: request itemized prices for the same size and clarify what installation or other charges are included.
  5. Weigh longevity carefully: distinguish a manufacturer warranty from measured test results, and compare evidence for the same application where possible.

Why tire-test numbers need context

Michelin publishes treadwear comparisons from particular vehicle-and-size tests. The figures below are Michelin-reported estimates, based on the most-worn groove of a rotated set; they are not independent tests or universal mileage predictions. They illustrate why a result for one application cannot establish that another tire will match Michelin for comfort or total value. Michelin’s published test comparisons provide the company’s methodology and caveats.
