Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →There is no verified winner for this 100-page PDF comparison: the available evidence does not include the PDF, test prompts, model and plan details, scored answers, or checks against the document. Product documentation explains what each service says it can accept or process—not which one understood this particular file. Without the experiment’s records, naming a winner would overstate what is known.
What a fair comparison would need to show
A credible head-to-head result depends on the exact file and the answers each system gave. A report should identify the product plan, model or version, settings, and test date, then show how answers were checked against the PDF. Upload limits alone cannot establish accuracy.

- Confirm that all three services accepted the same PDF and disclose whether each processed text only or visual elements as well.
- Use identical prompts where possible, with an answer key written before testing.
- Test exact facts, relationships across pages, and tables or charts that actually appear in the document.
- Check page references and cited passages against the PDF; a citation is not proof that an answer is correct.
- Include questions whose answers are absent from the file and report whether a system acknowledged the gap or supplied unsupported information.
- Preserve representative mistakes as well as successful answers. Fluent prose is not the same as understanding.
What the official documentation says about 100-page PDFs
The published capabilities differ, but they are not comparable accuracy results. Limits also belong to specific product surfaces: consumer chat, an API, and a particular subscription tier should not be treated as interchangeable.
| Service and documentation scope | Stated document capability | What the figure does—and does not—show |
|---|---|---|
| Claude consumer app; Anthropic Help Center, “Upload files to Claude” (July 23, 2026) | Claude analyzes text and visual elements in PDFs of 100 pages or fewer. PDFs from 101 to 1,000 pages are processed as text only; PDFs over 1,000 pages are not accepted. Chat uploads are listed at up to 500 MB per file and 20 files per chat. | A 100-page PDF falls within the stated range for text and visual analysis. These are consumer-help limits, not evidence that Claude answered a particular question correctly. Anthropic Help Center |
| Claude API; separate API documentation | Maximum request size of 32 MB and 100 pages per request. | These API limits are separate from consumer chat upload limits and should not be substituted for them. Claude PDF support documentation |
| NotebookLM; Google Help | PDFs are supported. The source ceiling is 500,000 words or 200 MB per source, and the FAQ says there is no page-count limit. | These are ingestion limits, not proof that every relevant passage was retrieved or that an answer was correct. | ChatGPT Enterprise; OpenAI Enterprise documentation | Can interpret text and visual elements in PDFs included in prompts and process up to 110,000 tokens from uploaded documents in the context window. | This is Enterprise-specific information; it should not be generalized to every ChatGPT plan. The token figure is a processing limit, not an accuracy score. OpenAI Enterprise guidance |
Why the plan and PDF contents matter
Product limits are not the same as successful reading
A service may accept a file without finding the right passage, preserving a qualification, or interpreting a chart correctly. Conversely, a stated page or token ceiling does not by itself predict how well a particular model will answer. ChatGPT’s general file-upload guidance describes document workflows and limits, but Enterprise-specific visual-PDF guidance should remain labeled as such. OpenAI File Uploads FAQ

Visual content needs a separate check
If the PDF contains charts, figures, scanned pages, or information conveyed by layout, the comparison should establish whether each tool processed those visuals and ask a question that genuinely depends on them. A text-only answer cannot demonstrate that a chart was understood.
NotebookLM quotas vary by plan
Google lists different notebook, source, and daily-query quotas by NotebookLM tier. A comparison therefore needs to name the plan used rather than treating the service as having one universal allowance. NotebookLM plan features

So, which AI is best at understanding a PDF?
The documented limits do not answer that question. They describe different ways to upload and process documents, not a controlled test of ChatGPT, Claude, and NotebookLM on the same 100-page file. On this evidence, it is not possible to say which service understood the PDF best.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a genuine comparison, publish the test file or enough detail to identify it, the exact plan and model for each service, prompts, answer key, outputs, and verification method. Until those results are available, treat claims of a test-proven winner as unsubstantiated.
