ChatGPT Pro 500 costs $500 per month, compared with $200 for Pro 200: a $300 monthly premium. Among self-serve Pro plans, that premium buys access to GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast and the highest included usage of the Pro tiers. It is worthwhile only if the lower latency or added allowance solves a real constraint in your work; OpenAI does not promise a particular amount of time saved or a universal productivity return.
What Pro 500 adds over Pro 200
The listed prices are $500 per month for Pro 500 and $200 per month for Pro 200. That is $300 more each month, or $3,600 across twelve monthly payments. OpenAI bills Pro monthly and says annual billing is not available. OpenAI’s Pro tier documentation describes Ultrafast as available with Pro 500 among self-serve Pro plans.

Eligible Enterprise and Edu workspaces have separate Ultrafast access and workspace-credit rules; they are not the same as self-serve Pro subscriptions. OpenAI’s plan documentation and Work and Codex usage guidance describe those distinctions.
What Astra Ultrafast does—and what it costs in allowance
OpenAI describes Astra Ultrafast as a lower-latency mode for GPT-6 Astra. The published description concerns response latency, not a smarter model or greater capability. For the same model, Ultrafast consumes included allowance at eight times the Standard rate. OpenAI calls this an allowance-consumption rate, not a guarantee that a response will be eight times faster. OpenAI’s Pro tier documentation

That trade-off matters: the mode may reduce waiting, but it also uses the plan’s shared allowance more quickly. Whether that exchange helps depends on your work and how much the time saved is worth to you.
How much more usage Pro 500 includes
Pro 500 has the highest included usage among the Pro tiers, but OpenAI does not translate that allowance into a fixed number of messages, tasks, or completed jobs. Work and Codex draw from a shared allowance. Consumption varies with the model, task, context, reasoning, tools, retrieval, caching, and speed setting. OpenAI explains that usage does not correspond to a fixed number of messages or tasks.

Is the $300 monthly premium worth it?
Start with the constraint, not the plan label. If Pro 200 lets you complete your work without meaningful delays or allowance limits, Pro 500 may not return enough value to justify its premium. If frequent latency or capacity limits block time-sensitive work, the higher tier may make sense—but only if the recovered time or otherwise-avoided eligible usage expense is worth at least $300 per month to you.

- Track the constraint. Over a representative week, note when latency or the allowance actually blocks valuable work.
- Count usable time, not every wait. Include only time you could productively use if the response arrived sooner; an idle wait is not automatically recovered work time.
- Value the difference. Estimate the monthly value of that usable time and any eligible paid usage expense you would genuinely avoid. Compare the total with $300.
For example, at a value you assign of $100 per usable work hour, $300 equals three hours arithmetically. This is only an illustration of the break-even calculation—not an OpenAI estimate, a typical result, or a claim that Pro 500 saves three hours. Base the decision on your own observed experience.
