No: Chase Freedom Flex does not currently offer a special 5% bonus at Amazon or Whole Foods Market. Those merchants were part of Chase’s Q2 2026 promotion, which ran April 1–June 30. For Q4, October 1–December 31, the rotating 5% categories are grocery stores (excluding Walmart and Target), dining, and eligible American Red Cross donations. You must activate by December 14, and the combined quarterly-category cap is $1,500.
What earns 5% on Chase Freedom Flex in Q4 2026?
Chase’s Q4 offer covers eligible purchases at grocery stores other than Walmart and Target, dining purchases, and eligible donations to the American Red Cross. The offer period is October 1 through December 31, 2026. Chase says donations must be made through the Red Cross’s official channels to qualify. Chase’s Q4 2026 announcement lists the categories and terms.

The quarterly 5% rate is the total rate, not 5% on top of the card’s 1% base rate: it consists of 1% base cash back plus 4% additional quarterly cash back. Dining can earn up to 7% total while both the Q4 category bonus and the card’s recurring dining offer apply: 1% base, 4% quarterly bonus, and 2% additional dining cash back. Each rate remains subject to its applicable rules and caps.

Q4 category limits and activation
- Activate the offer by December 14, 2026.
- The $1,500 limit applies to combined purchases across the quarterly bonus categories, not $1,500 per category.
- Once the combined limit is reached, the quarterly bonus ends; eligible purchases return to the otherwise applicable rate.
- Chase says the merchant must submit a charge by December 31 for it to count in the quarter. A purchase made before the deadline may not qualify if its charge is submitted later.
Activation is required each quarter. Check the card account and offer terms for the activation control and eligibility before relying on the bonus.

Does Chase Freedom still earn 5% at Amazon and Whole Foods?
Not as a Q4-specific category. Amazon and Whole Foods Market were included in Chase’s Q2 2026 categories, but that promotion ended June 30. Chase’s Q2 announcement described eligible Amazon.com purchases—including digital downloads, gift cards, Amazon Fresh, Prime subscriptions, and marketplace items—and Whole Foods Market purchases, subject to stated exclusions. It also excluded some channels and transactions, including Amazon Pay purchases, international Amazon or Whole Foods sites, and certain third-party or in-store vendors.
Q4 includes a grocery-store category, but Chase’s Q4 announcement does not establish that Amazon or Whole Foods purchases qualify under it. Do not assume that an online marketplace, delivery order, or a particular Whole Foods transaction will receive the grocery bonus; check the merchant and purchase eligibility terms for the current offer.

Is Chase Freedom Flex a good fit?
The card is most useful if its current categories match spending you would make anyway, you can activate each quarter, and you are likely to use enough eligible spending before the shared cap without changing your purchases just to chase rewards. Chase lists a $0 annual fee on its current Freedom Flex page.
Check your spending and habits
- Category fit: Estimate how much you normally spend at eligible grocery stores, restaurants, and other Q4 categories. Do not count Walmart or Target toward the Q4 grocery offer.
- Activation: If you are likely to forget the quarterly deadline, the rotating bonus may be less valuable in practice.
- Cap: Add eligible spending across all Q4 categories to see whether you are likely to reach the combined $1,500 limit.
- Recurring purchases: Consider whether the listed Chase Travel, dining, and drugstore rates fit your regular spending, rather than judging the card only by one quarter.
- Paying in full: Rewards are not a reason to carry a balance. Compare the card’s current APR and other terms with your ability to pay the statement balance in full.
Chase’s current page also lists a $250 new-cardmember bonus after $500 in purchases during the first three months for eligible applicants. Chase cautions that offers can vary by application channel and change, so confirm the live offer, APR, and full card terms before applying.
